I´ll show all pics in one thread now.
Galahad, Lancelots Brother and Derfels best friend

And the whole bunch so far. I wanted them to look "bright", cause they´re the good ones. Mordreds men will be much darker.
-
They look fantastic, now let's see the bad guys. I like how Galahad's shiny heraldry has a gritty "dark ages" look at the same time, you have done a great job with the shields.
-
Wow, these are getting better and better!!! Would you consider making a tutorial for your shield-skills? These are just stunning.
You are messing with my brains here, mate!! I want to paint up some Saxons now. All gritty and dark so they can take on your shiny fellas!
-
Gotta admit these are making me toy with the idea if digging out my arthurians. They look great! These are some of my favourite books and you really are doing the minis justice. Can't wait to see what you did with Lancelot.
-
They look even better all grouped together!! Superb!!

Derfels personal banner. Musketeer Goth with LBM flag.
-
Very very nice. Really love this project.
-
As stated elsewhere... Brilliant continuation of the project.
-
:-* Nicely done!
-
Wonderful figures there :-* :-*
I did a couple myself of Derfels band using the old GB figures but no where as well excuted as yours :)
cheers

He´s the bad guy, so I painted him wearing dark colours.
-
Love the gold mask. Very creepy.
-
Very sinister! Great figure.
-
Love these on any forum I see them on! :-* Galahad is my favorite of the bunch.
-
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s274/snilloc_photos/agricola003.jpg)
Agricola from the Christian Kingdom of Gwent. He´s th most "romanised" Miniature that I have from B so fits perfectly!
After some critic that the banner was too "ordinary" I added a wooden wolf head (GW Space Wolves Bit) and fur to the banner. I think it looks much more barbarian now.
-
That banner does look better now you have altered it...
Both Mordred and Agricola look really good. Somehow I'd guessed that, if you were going to do Agricola, that you'd use that model... Very 'Roman'...
Are you going to do any Saxons?
-
So are you just painting the characters or are you planning on painting any warbands for them? This is a great project, love your painting.
-
I´m painting the characters because I only have character packs..except some wolftail warriors. I would like to paint two infantry units: Derfel´s Wolftails and Agricola´s Spearmen (I really love the romano-brits from Foundry, they´re perfect for Gwent). And of course Arthus and his knights again using Foundry. So around 30 Fis for skirmish games. But I´m not the best in finishing projects, so I can´t promise anything.
Two of my friends just ordered some Saxons, both Musketeer and GB. So no Saxons for me (but who knows: as allies? Or Oengus Blackshields?)
-
Sounds good. I always imagine agricolas men would look like these http://grippingbeast.com/product.php?ItemID=242 but the foundry ones are really nice too. I suppose that's the great thing about interpreting fiction everyone has their own images.
-
I'm going to get the books from the library again for a read, but didn't Mordred use some Franks in the last book in the series. That would give you a chance to have some barbarians that aren't Saxons.
-
Beautiful work, Jan!! I really like the choice of model for Agricola and the changes to the banner are great!!! Great wolfshead!
Thanks to my girlfriend I will be painting some Saxons, hopefully soon, that would love to cross swords with your Brittons! I am planing to field the army of Aelle (well, I say... army :) it will be a skirmish after all) therefore I am listening to the audiobook version of Excalibur for ideas.
Franks are mentioned in the book. The Saxons are mentioned to have bought troops from Clovis.
P.S. Don't forget Sagramor!!!
-
a lovely project
loved the gold work on mordreds mask
and the banner bearer went from very good to just excellent and very characterful with th eaddition to the banner,
i have some of those figures, as a brit artheur is part of our mythical heritage
you have done such a brilliant job
can't wait for more

P.S. Don't forget Sagramor!!!
That will not happen!! ;) I´m looking forward to see your Saxons painted Dimitri.
All who posted on this thread: thank you a lot for your support, it really helps to keep my motivation up!
-
Lovely work indeed

Some warriors for Derfel´s warband. And a groupshot of the Wolftails so far. On Derfel´s right side stands Issa, ready to protect his lord.

Awesome bunch of models! Brilliant!!

:-* :-* Excellent! What rules are you going to use?

I know a guitarr player who is writing some rules... ::) For Background, Army lists and fluff I really love the WAB Age of Arthur book. I also thought about adapting the "Triumph+Tragedy" rules. We´ll see.
-
Lovely figures. Great job!

Would love to see them when you are done :D
-
Have you thought of trying the Lord of the Rings SBG? I did some rules for Late Romans and the like a while ago and I think it works great for skirmishing games.
-
Have you given up on brytwalda as a rule set then? It thought it was quite nice.

I think this two miniatures are some of the best I´ve ever seen. And painted. The sword armed could serve as a more romanised (and more christian) Arthur.
Happy new year to all of you, I´m a bit ill today because I drank a bottle of Red Label last night. Bad idea.
-
Excellent Lt :-*
-
Great figures.
-
The shields are bloody amazing!
-
Excellent work once again, Jan! You have captured thr feel of cornwell's Gwent! The shieldwork is stunning.
-
excellent :-*
-
Lovely work :-*
-
Outstanding!! How many figures from each kingdom do you plan on painting?
-
Outstanding!! How many figures from each kingdom do you plan on painting?
I´m planning some skirmish games with Aeneas and Remington. So 30-50 Miniatures a side, that could be a 1:1 ratio when I think of how "large" the armies was at that time. My plan: 2 X 10 warriors with spears (Derfel´s Wolftails and Kingdom of Gwent) plus 9 knights, including Arthur himself.
-
These are lovely.
-
Very nice, love the shields!!!

I wanted this Salute 2006 Give-away so bad, and posted requests on Lead Adventure Forum and Steve Dean Forum. Now I have this one from The Dozing Dragon and will get another one from famous RJ !
-
Very nice! :-*

like it :-*

Very nice!

Oooh...now you are just teasing me with Arthurian excellence!! Really good.... The colour palette works really well on both figures and the basing is beautifully done. Fabulous!! :-*
-
So what Arthur myth are you using as for you back ground? I just want to know becase I just picked up "the winter King" and so far its a rivting read.
Also who dose the Mordred Min? Is it a conversion?
-
Lt. Hazel is inspired by exactly the author of the winter king... And he did a smashing job again with that vignette! Absolutely perfect.

First scratchbuild house for my Arthur project (or any other dark Age/Medieval setting). I´ll do a small village, it was a lot of fun to built this one. I´m very happy with the roof, it´s a old towel cut to stripes and hardened with a lot of PVA Glue/water-mix (thanks to Rusus for sharing his wisdom with me).
-
Excellent work on the house! Can you give a break down of the contruction of the walls and such?
-
Very nice! I was hoping we'd see more from this? Any plans for a dream tower in this village?
-
This is a great thread! :-* :-*
It does make me think about how much I have not finished in my own Arthurian collection...
-
That is sweet. Now I need to start my Romano British!!!

Raised store. Arthur´s troops will need some bred I guess. My ideas are stolen from the Grand Manner site. Hope they don´t mind.
-
Brilliant, Lt.!!! I absolutely love it and it will be a joy to conquer it and empty it to fill my Saxon stomach! :D:P
-
Those buildings have a lot of character 8) :-* 8) :-*
Not convinced by the towel method in general but that certainly isn't knocking what you have done, you've acheived a great finish :)

Some news, I´m still painting some Dark Age Minis from time to time. Actually I´m infected with the Arthur-virus again (no EHEC) and building a chieftains hall with removable roof, post pics some pics of it when it´s finished. The Romano-British noble was painted this afternoon, Arthur´s flag some time ago.

-
Great! it must be spreading becase I just started reading the winter king today also
-
Can't believe that I missed four pages of this goodness first time around!
Lovely stuff as usual, Hazel :)
And as usual, I get the arthurian bug as well (must be EHEC then ;) )
-
:-*
This collection is coming along really nicely!
Great work, matey.
-
I am also reading the Warlord Chronicals for the second time, and this thread is feeding into my urge to paint some more Dark ages stuff! Brilliant figures, lovely shields, and great weathering.
-
Who makes the noble mini?
Great work!

Oooooh, so the project isn't dead from your side, then? And what life it breathes! Amazing work once more, Jan! Thanks for sharing, especially for me that is important. Beautiful work.
-
:-*
Nice work!

I love these books and this thread has got me re-reading them again, just trying to avoid buying lots of figures that won't get painted........

Have you seen the forthcoming SAGA rules from Gripping Beast (out next month) sound ideal for your project. A mini review here:http://www.mikehobbs.co.uk/?p=2339

Yeah, I talked about this ruleset yesterday with Mad Doc Morris! They look good, thanks for the link. We´ll definatly give them a try.
-
My rule-writing stalled months ago and hasn't re-started, although one could probably play a game with what I've got.
However, Gripping Beast's Saga is the way to go, me-thinks. A mate of mine played it at a show recently and really liked it!! I shall be ordering it as soon as possible and will attempt to post a review or two once I have played it a few times. I say 'attempt', because things keep getting in the way of my wargaming lately...
Back on topic. Great models, as always. They'll look inspiring when you put them all together on the tabletop!!
