Title: Sisters of Battle Tank Conversion
Post by: Doomsdave on December 22, 2010, 02:30:12 PM
I made this SOB tank for about $4 plus the cost of the bits (that I had in my box for years).  I have dubbed it the "San Leor pattern Immolator" after some fluff in the original SOB codex.  What do you think?

I made it from this toy which came with some plastic cops and an out-of-scale helicopter.   I bought the set for $4 at Hobby Lobby specifically because the APC looked t be the right scale.  With this first experiment done I'm going to do some for my near future army.

The hatch even opens,  incidentally, the hatch opening perfectly accommodates a GW Rhino turret for those who want to make cheap Space Marine tanks.

With my son's Ultra-Tank:

Sorry for the number of pictures, but I think this is a great cheap way to round out your near-modern/future force.  Do some 40K cheap convos, or some post-apoc builds.

Looks good!  My only comment is that the sides could really use some detailing.  Hatches, armor plating, stowage, something.  If it's an SoB tank, shouldn't it have more iconography?

Oh no.  I just realized what I'm advocating.

"It needs more skulls."

My brother works at a Hobby Lobby.  I'll have to have him take a look for that kit.  Nice work on the conversion.

Maybe a Pig Iron Iron Sides Component kit would work on it.

Nice find.  Did you have any problems with paint sticking?  Those toy tanks are usually made out of that  bendy and slick plastic.

I've got the same tank, and the cops, It's about the same proportions as the old rhino. i do agree on the sides that might need some detail. I never got to it myself on my tank as I'm too lazy. :)

4,00$… that’s a lot cheaper than a GW model lol

Anyhow that’s a nice find and a useful base for conversion. Nice work on your SoB tank. I really like how the gold color looks 8)

Hmmm ..... cheap plastics. pre-painted in China .... I wonder if Jean Bey or the Dust tactics guys have seen this?

It stuck well. no problem.  It's not the typical bendy stuff.  The tank has a kind of light texture to the flat surfaces that's not apparent in the photos.

As for the bare sides; I thought about adding sponsons to it, but wanted a little simpler, more "realistic" desgn if that make sense.  I got a couple of these and am going to do some more projects with them.  My near-future military one will have some Tamiya accessories to spruce it up.

Thanks to all for the comments.

Wow! I have the exact same tank at home! I could have bought the blue one but I got the green. Mine, however, looks like it is made from an inferior kind of plastic which looks more like compressed cardboard.

Great work on the tank!

Very nice, great paintjob too.

To be honest, as the rhino is based on a M113 it doesn't supirse me that that little police APC works. Shame they aren't available in the UK for $3.98 (about £2.70!)

Awesome vehicle. It's spot on! I like the fact that the sides or clean, not cluttered like GW's vehicles. Hopefully it the box with the vehicles will show up at a store in the Netherlands :)

Very nice conversion. I thought it looked a little spartan but then I realised it was just me being brainwashed. It definately fits the bill and it's nice for a change 8)

I'm no button counter, 113 or 114, the 40k rhino owes a lot to this narque of APC.

That 113 is from a town about 10 miles from my house.  Doraville Police, Doraville GA.  What a coincidence.

I got some PM's about availability of these tank toys.  I found them on Amazon for those who don't have access to a Hobby Lobby in their area.  This set is a little more expensive than mine was, but it looks like it comes with a jeep that may have potential.  I hope this helps.
