We're already prepping our Doctor Who Miniatures Game particpation game over at Crooked Dice towers.
This year: Victory of the Daleks. A six player fast play game which uses the Series 5 episode as a (very) loose background - but also has elements of The Empty Child and another Classic Who episode... so hopefully something for everyone!
Anyway, here are pics of a couple of the squads - first the Ironsides. These were originally Micro Universe Dalek Sec, these were converted by Mark Evans and painted by Mark Dixon. I like these a lot!
The Ironsides

Next is Winnie and his brave boys - Black Scorpion and Artizan. Painted by Dags.
The British Bulldogs

I'll keep you posted on the table (a WW2 airfield!) and the other squads as we get them painted.
-
Nice!
So I-daleks done as well yet?
-
One will be making a 'brief' appearance. I've actually got used to them now :)
-
Jon's just finished off a couple more squads.
Remember I said we were deviating from the script a little?
OK so now we have Bracewell's Robo-Men (CD Armed Minions with Mannequin heads), some Empty Children (HF's Rose) and some Autons (CD Unarmed Minions with Mannequin heads).
Bracewell's Robomen

The Empty Children

The Autons

-
Very much looking forward to seeing this game :)
-
Yup be good to have a wander over again, this time I'll give you a good dig in the ribs Karl and say hi!
;)
What else is making an appearance on the table then?
-
It's a Classic and New Series mash up. It's lack of canon is leaving me in a cold sweat, but it should be a much more enjoyable game with different squads.
The table last year almost exclusively attracted kids and teens, so we're going for a fast-play, fun game.
The Autons will be led by the Master - prolly use Delgado, but might be tempted into using Heresy's Simm.
The last squad will be three Time Agents led by Captain Jack. Two Artizan pilots and the CD April release...
The table is basically a WW2 British airfield with hangers, barracks, air control tower etc. Building has just started.
-
I like the look of that, especially the Ironsides! ;D
-
Nice - can't wait to see the airfield as well!
-
This is looking really fun - I wish I could get there.
-
Lovely PJs (as usual) by Dags.
Its clear to see where Rev (and AEG) will be hanging out most of the day.

-
Uti, if you haven't already got this, I thought it might come in handy.
Hope you like it.
-
Cheers Trooper! Already gracing the back of some of the player cards - and probably bits of scenery around the board :)
-
Great job with the Ironsides! All the figures look marvelous! Can't wait to see the full report of the game.
-
With all this talk of iDaleks I thought I show Mark's latest for the Salute Game:
-
All this talk about Salute is well and good but have you made a decision about Derby yet?
-
Righto! Almost all of the terrain is finished for the Dalek game, so I thought I'd share the build and WIP pics of Exley Airfield - a WW2 Allied airfield.
Here's my initial drawing - some ideas have been tweaked a bit, but the main elements remain:
BASE BOARDS
David of TM Terrain is just putting the final touched to the base boards, but here are the build pics:
And here it is painted and weathered and nearly finished. Thanks to Jens over at Pardulon for advice on materials as this was inspired by his urban boards. Grass still needs to be added to the darker areas. They are also a number of drill holes in the board to pop in some trees.

The bunker had to be adapted a bit for budget and size, but again David did a cracking job:

And the final build:

BUILDINGS
And here are the main buildings produced by Darren Couch of Black Knight Studios. Darren has provided builds for me for a long while and produced last year's oil rig. He's pulled out all the stops again this year for the central hangar, barracks and air traffic control tower:
Central Hangar
(http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj278/pez47/Doctor%20Who%20Miniatures/Salute%202011/DSCF8304.jpg)

And these last two show the Dalek Saucer and the internal gantry. Marines used for scale!

Barracks
There are three of these - final positions will probably shift a bit.

Air Traffic Control tower
I love this one - there's some great detailing!

DALEK SAUCER
This is simply a repaint of a Pegasus Saucer - only £15. The green glass comes as standard with the kit.

Scatter terrain
There are few extra bits of scatter produced for the game including this Pardulon bunker and some sandbags. Thanks to Dags for pjs on these.

David has also built the radar array, but I haven't had a chance to take an pics yet. Lovely piece though.
I'll be receiving Darren's buildings in the next couple of days and David is on the last stretch of the base board builds. Once I have it all together I'll do some test set-ups and take some more photos to show how it all comes together.
-
Absolutely Breathtaking stuff. The air traffic control tower and the hanger are beautiful. Can't wait to see it in the flesh ;D
-
Cheers! A lot of credit for the hangar has to go to Overlord - as it's based entirely on the footprint of his Geezers warehouse that we used for last years game.
-
Fabulous! :-*
This will be great to see at Salute – can I put my name down now for a game please? ;)
-
Truly beautiful work. Going to be a very impressive board! Wish I was in the neighborhood--would love to see it in person!
-
top stuff Karl....
-
Thought to add my "awesome" to the list :)
-
wow, the scratchbuild pieces a rereally cool!
but i can't find the site of the guys which made them! :(
-
Sangennaru - apologies! A huge amount of thanks needs to go to David at TM Terrain and Darren Couch of Black Knight Studios.
http://www.tmterrain.co.uk/
Darren's current site seems to be down, but here is a link to his Photobucket page:

Contact me by PM if you need his email address.
-
Well, if that doesn't win the "Best Game" award I'll be deeply shocked ;D
-
Great stuff, though thanks to those scale shots, Im wanting to play a game of WW2 British against Space marines now :P
-
Wow! :-* :-*
-
Is the tower home-made as well. :o That is just amazing and the weathering on that hangar is fantastic.
-
Tremendous!
Oddly, the cracked runway made me think immediately of The Avengers episode, "The Hour That Time Forgot".
-
Absolutely gobsmackingly gorgeous !! :-*
Love the UFO , I'll get me some of that !
I'm curious , how did they managed to get it through the hangar doors ? ;)
-
That is bloody brilliant :-* :-* :-* :-*

Special Dalek magic :)
Don't worry it won't be in the Hangar in the game - instead there will be a Chula ambulance...

Dave - It's all scratch-built, but Darren is a pro-terrain maker which helps!
-
That is really rather nice, any plans to take it to any other shows? ???

Maybe. That's one of the topics at the grand Crooked summit post Salute :)

David has finished the base boards and has sent some final pics:

It looks the biz, and worth every penny i'm sure.

8)
Yeah - not cheap but worth it!
I wish I had the time and talent to do it myself as I love making terrain, but my ham-fisted attempts wouldn't be up to it, plus I wouldn't have had the time with all the other Crooked business :(
Although I've another Plasticville Aircraft Hangar drying on the table as I write, so I've made a small contribution :)
-
Fantastic terrain boards! I particularly like the flocking - a lovely irregular look to it.
Along with the superbly painted figures that will definitely be a game to drool over ;D
-
Where did the empty children come from?
-
WOW :-* :-* :-*
The detail on the hanger is amazing :o :o :o
Does the control tower have an interiour?
How long does it take to get a building like that made?
-
Absolutely stunning! :-*
How long does it take to get a building like that made?
I was wondering that too.
-
6milPhil - That's the Hasslefree Rose figure. We've intentionally mashed up the factions to ensure each player has a Who flavoured squad, as last year a couple of them were a bit off. It's lack of canon leaves me in a cold sweat :), but it should all add to the fun.
Thunder and Mac - yep the top two levels have interiors.
Re: timing - Darren worked on these over a couple of months, but not sure how much time was dedicated to each piece. I'll ask though.
-
A few last bits of set dressing for the table - a couple of Tillys, a Lancia and some objectives markers to represent the Chula Ambulance:

Jolly good! Really looking forward to this. :)
And the following week you can start planning your Salute 2012 game based on The Impossible Astronaut...! lol
-
Do you know, I've already got ideas and potential figs :)
-
I did a quick final table layout yesterday - here's a bit of fuzzy pic, but it shows initial start up (no roof on Hangar):

Wish I could make Salute! :(

looks great... no jealousy at all here... >:(
so what's the basic scenario?
-
While the motivations and forces have changed it's essentially the same set-up as last year. Fast play rules. Gain additional Luck points for defeating opponents and meeting squad objectives:
Bracewell's Robo-Men: Reach the Doctor and locate three objective markers to stop Bracewell from exploding.
British Bulldogs: Search the buildings for spies and retrieve some heavy weapons from the bunker to defeat the invaders.
Time Agents: Deactivate the Chula Ambulance and find Amy Pond.
Autons and the Master: Locate the Nestene control spheres and reach the Radar Array to establish the Nestene Spearhead.
Ironside Daleks: Deactivate the unclean Nanogene mutants and locate any time travellers.
Empty Children: Find you mummy (more victims) and protect the Chula Ambulance.
It's lack of canon leaves me in a cold sweat, but it should be a fun game if nothing else.
Plus random events each round - including an appearance by a shiny iDalek and distractions brought about by serving tea.
-
Looks the biz mate.
Just finished the Battlefield table, about 2 hours ago, and there is a definite feeling of satisfaction (and relief) seeing it all come together.
Just hope it fits in the car.
;)
-
Yours look cracking too Sir - well done. I had LOTS of help, but you got there on your own!
-
Cheers Karl - am hoping will be able to sneak away for a few minutes on saturday, and get a good look at both your games, as the detailing (and painting), on both looks excellent.

Some pics of the final game in play from an Anevilgiraffe. Ross and Matt ran two packed games - and then ran an unscheduled third due to popular demand :)
A great day in all! Thanks to all who played!

One day Big Bum, Or do I have to travel to the frozen north to meet you ;)

Whoa!!! :o :o 8)
How the heck(translate to post watershed vocabulary where appropriate!) did I miss this beaut!! Fantastic stuff guys. The level of detail, the painted figs, and the realisim of the board are great!!

One day Big Bum, Or do I have to travel to the frozen north to meet you ;)
It would be too expensive for you to have all the innoculations, language course etc lol
One day when I get my finances sorted out. I used to go regularly back in the 90s and loved it. Always a great day out :)
