Tres interessant, mon brave - mais... qu'est-ce que c'est? Une machine extraterrestre qui marche? C'est terrible!

Aussi, mon francais, c'est terrible.

I'm not sure which is more embarrassing:: that you're self-effacing about your French, while mine is non-existent, or the poster is living  in Lyon, and  whose English is better than mine...  :'(

 :D

Indeed, we need more explanations! The archival photographical image is too degraded for us to have much certainty of origin, or purpose! And, my gazetteer is strangely silent on this Uchronia!

Don't worry about your french (which is quite good), Red Orc, I'll give you more data in english.  ;)

So for you and The_Beast, this is a more recent picture (estimated year : 1868) :

This is a French patrol supported by a Martian Tripod (Republic of France and Mars).

Uchronia 1868 is a personal project born in 2009. It has been reactivated as I was very disappointed by Dystopian Wars which is only a WWII in 1870.

This is a little sum up of the context : there was a change in the universe something that has changed our little Earth.
In 1849, Martian tripods land in France and some years later will be created the Republic of France and Mars.
The same year, a warp gap destroy Berlin and Prussians takes the leadership of the German nation : exploring the gap, they discover a world of Dragons, capture some of the creatures and use them in their armies.
Still in 1849, a tidal wave swallows Great-Britain and destroy it : the Exiled Kingdom of Great Britain must develop a high technology to survive. In Africa, dinosaurs are back! The Zoulou Empire manages to train them and to use them against the european conquerors.
This is only some of my ideas about this project (there also american zombies and russian necromancers :) ).

I'll use 6mm miniatures and Epic Armageddon rules to play in this universe. It will be a very long project and I'll give you news about it on this topic. :)

Sounds like a lovely project, I currently have 6mm sci-fi armies in the works as slow going task and its very inspiring to see all these other 6mm things going on.

I think the VSF part of LAF has perhaps the most entertaining back stories people create and some of the most interesting worlds.

What?!? We're a bunch of zombies?!?

Oh, wait, that WOULD explain much...  lol

But, if we're the zombies, and the Russians are the necromancers, then...

Now, see here!  :D

Really looking forward to updates as well!

What?!? We're a bunch of zombies?!?

Fortunately there are zombies in north america but not all the americans are zombies.  lol

I'll develop this part later but my first ideas are these : civil war is not finished in 1868 between the Union of American States (North) and the American Conferation (South where zombies are numerous due to a vaudou malediction).

Next is aslo a unit from Republic of France and Mars : a Support Quadripod.

This unit will be deployed to support units of French Zouaves.

Excellent!

By the way, I'm intrigued by the Boche and their dragons. I'd appreciate a comment on that direction, especially as I'm half German, and one quarter Welsh (and so, hoping for some red in the dragons...)

The other quarter, well, we don't speak of that in polite company.

For the Prussians, I've planed an elite army (big surprise!  lol ): very good but very few infantry supported by big dragons (for those who know Epic Armageddon, Dragons will all be war engines) dedicated to many kind of fight. Some of them will be close assault creatures, other will support the Prussian troops with fire breath.

I've just began my work on the Prussian army list but I've already painted some Dragons (I've already post some pictures here as I've firstly used these miniatures for Warmaster). As soon as I've got pictures of them in a "Uchronia 1868" context, I post them. :)

And, yes, my Martian Walkers come from germys micros. French & Martian armies will deploy numerous infantry supported by walkers (for the most little to the bigger).

Thank you all for your interest.  ::)

One more (bad) picture about franco-martians forces : this is the Martian Battle Walkers, the most recent walker units of the Martian armies.

They fit in better then I had expected, your painting is good tough you might consider a light wash to bring out details like that hatch a little better.

Say, are these the medium walkers or the small ones?

There is a larger version :

Thanks man that really gives me an idea of scale on those models, I found it rather hard to judge from their website.

You know I have been thinking of doing a "battle in a box" project with these, probably some of those GW craters as terrain on one side of the box and these minies on the other in foam. I think it would be cute.

A bit like this:

Interesting but beware : 6mm is not for small battlefields. For example, a standard Epic Armageddon battlefield is 180x120cm.

Well the germies micro stuff, especially the infantry is even smaller then 6mm, but the game would be hardly more then a skirmish just using very small miniatures so it can fit in a small box.

Of course you can use 6mm miniatures with 28mm rules (for example play W40k with Epic miniatures) but it is not the main objective which is to deploy whole armies and play big battles.  ;D

For my Uchronia 1868 project, I plan to make real Epic Armageddon army lists for the several nations in order to play "real" battles. After that, I think that AT-43 rules could be use for big skirmishes.  :D

Naturally, your right. I cant wait to field my own armies of epic proportions.   :D
But its simply some side thing I have been musing about with those minies.

I am quite curious to see what you will do with the rules for these actually! Are you writing custom lists or are you adapting things to a good facsimile?

Can you share where the figures you have shown come from?
I know that some of the walkers look like Germy, what about the French Infantry?
Really keen to see where you take this.
Title: Re: Uchronia 1868
Post by: fbruntz on February 21, 2011, 12:15:50 PM
Infantry comes from Baccus Miniatures. All Martian walkers come from Germy.

This is a picture of the Martian Heavy Walkers which have been created to hunt the strongest plutonian creatures and is quite good to destroy tanks, dragons or prehistoric monsters on Earth.

Yep, but see common as polyvalent. Green dragons are assault dragons, red ones are fire support dragons. Blue Dragons are between the Green and Red ones.

Quote

Prussian army uses lot of Dragons and they can deploy them independently or as support for infantry, artillery and cavalery.

Note that I've worked with a friend on the French & Martian and Prussian lists for Epic Armageddon, the first beta-version of these lists will be ready soon and we hope to make a first test battle as soon as possible (we just have to paint enough miniatures for a small game - 1500 points).

And even if you have more advanced weapons, that does not mean you have the fund to re-equip your entire force at once, or at all. (which modern army only caries the most modern weapons and only has the newest model of tank? really.)

New units for the franco-martian troops : the Mitrailleuses!

These weapons have been upgraded with martian technology in order to move them quickly so they can follow infantry and support it.

According to a Wiki entry, Mitrailleuse signifies any rapid fire, rifle-barreled weapon in French, but a particular volley weapon when used as a term in English. May I assume the specific versus the general?

Also, "They were not infantry support weapons but rather a form of special artillery." Assuming my assumption is correct(  ??? ), instead of being discontinued after the Franco-Prussian embarrassment, it was resurrected and tactically, as well as technically, improved in your universe? As I'd heard of the piece, but knew next to nothing, thanks for the excursion!  :D

Sorry, I did not see your intervention.

In Uchronia 1868, Mitrailleuses have been improved with Martian technology to allow them to support infantry.

I also did want to show that the project was still alive : I've written 4 army lists (Franco-Martian Republic, Draconic Kingdom of Prussia, Zoulou Empire and Kingdom of Great Britain in Exile) and I'm painting two 1500 points armies for Franco-Martians and Prussians in order to test them on May (yes, I'm very slow...  ::)).

And I've painted a 4th Martian Heavy Walker in order to deploy a whole squadron :

Nope. Celtic Republic of Ireland negociated the leaving of all the British people with the Royal Navy. These people, except few scottish who could survive on the islands/summits of Scotland, were transported to the Commonwealth (mainly India, Canada and Australia).

Note that this is an uchronia and that there is no mean to feed any dissension between Ireland and the United Kingdom...  :)

I was thinking of some sort of united Celtic country for my VSF background, but I may just go with Glyndwr's war of independence being successful and there being a Wales and two Englands, which could be fun. Nice flood idea and moving the whole lot elsewhere.

IN fact I think it is inspiring to see anything in 6mm scale that isn't sci-fi!

It looks the business!

No, no, I'm very slow but it was never totally inactive even if I don't update this topic. ;)

For example, my last painting job :

...

This not very interesting, that's why I don't talk about that kind of work here. ^^

So uninteresting, we get to see it several times over.  lol

Really, quite understandable, but we are all heartened to see any progress.

Two things this forum does so well: 1) give hope and inspire those thrashing about on their own projects, 2) allow pointless cheerleading by those who who are just hopeless.  :D

Thanks so much!

And, just so Colonel O' Truth won't claim I'm unfair to his work, the saddle really should be over the saurian's haunches...  ;)

They'll come... after the action. ;)

I've only played one battle and I've already posted the report on this topic, remember that was here (http://fbruntz.fr/lpt/uchronia1868/conflits_affaire_sarreguemines.html).

As I wanted to paint something different from Franco-Martians and Prussians, I've decided to paint a Plutonian xenomorph, one of the biggest ennemies of Mars!
This is because of the Plutonian Threat  that Mars had contacted Earth and especialy France to ask some help. President Louis Napoléon Bonaparte sent an army to help Martians, this was the first step to the future Franco-Martian Republic. :)

Utterly delightful! I have to say I am impressed with your creativity, and in 6mm! I'm afraid my eyes aren't what they used to be, so no forays into 6mm for me! You seem to have struck an excellent balance between game balance and steampunk, a rather tricky thing to do it seems.
