Title: Decal solution
Post by: Jules on February 23, 2011, 08:41:17 PM
Does anybody know of a cheap alternative to decal softeners that I can make up at home from household goods, things I may have laying around?

I am brassic at the moment and have some decals on 1/600 aircraft (my current obsession) and the decals do not lay well on such small models.

I thought I would open this up to our inventive collective minds (I am always delighted at the technical skills of LAFers). A good start would be the chemical make up of the commercial stuff.

This site just gets better and better.

its got ammonia in it - i REALLY do NOT suggest messing with ammonia-based products....sorry but, uh-huh.. buy some micro-set and micro-sol.

If you really cant afford any then the next-best thing it to soak your decals in water with a very small amount of PVA in it, that will help adhesion and hide edges to some degree....not as good as micro-sol/set though, but a lot better than mucking about with ammonia  o_o
