As originally seen here in the Cap'n's thread:
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=26058.0
This is my effort:
It goes without saying the Cap'n's version is far superior, but as a first attempt I'm quite happy with it. I might try to jazz it up a bit on the next attempt with some of those fancy irregular edges etc, but it's functional enough and should do the job as it is :)
edited for change of location of pic

Blow me down and call me Nicholas!!! :o
Gluteus has posted some pics of his own stuff :o :o :o
Looks great chap, figs and base. The individual squares are very well matched in and do not show at all unless you look. Well done indeed.

Ooooooh! I'm all embarrassed now lol
If you look carefully, you might see the angle of the shot was cunningly staged to conceal some rather large gaps in some of the holes. They were surprisingly difficult to do accurately. I wish I'd had some of those nifty pre-made thingies like Cap'n Blood used ::)
The figures are definitely "wargames standard" hence no close-ups. I'll leave that to the truly talented.
Thanks for the positive comments, but don't expect this to be a regular thing ;)

Gluteus MAXIMUS!!! Pics at last :D
That is a perfectly good looking bunch of figures, and the tray works nicely.
Actually, I'm embarrassed as well, because it's really Silent Invader's cunning design, not mine. I just took his idea and executed it with extra bravado lol

those bases works pretty good! i like the look, did you use square frames or just two layers?

You're too kind! Isn't that the way that most of the renowned innovators actually innovate lol

I used a sheet of fairly thick plastic card (either .30 or .50), then made frames using that "right-angle" plastic strip that railway modellers use for angle-iron etc. Once that was dry I just filled in the gaps with my home-made basing compound (PVA glue, DIY filller, sand and a spot of brown paint), with a few rocks and tufts of grass from a doormat. Next, I dry brushed in a sandy yellow shades and highlighted with the sort of sandy-beige colour used in outdoor wall paint and finally stuck some Woodland Scenics middle green foliage on for mimosa scrub. The base is a bit more of a yellowish shade than in the photograph, but for some reason my auto-fix didn't bring the true colour out like it normally does.

Nice work old chap. I might give one of these a try.
