The mailbox for LPL5 is now open - you can now send your entries!
All entries must be emailed as jpeg attachments to lpleague3@yahoo.co.uk
To remind you of a few important points:
Each entry should consist of an image not exceeding 800x800 pixels.
Your images can be smaller than this if you like - but not bigger.
Please remember: all competitors must resize their own images before submitting them.
(If you dont know how to resize images, please ask someone before the competition gets underway).
It would also really help and speed things up if you could make the filename of your picture (irrespective of the title you state for your entry) your LAF username + the LPL5 round number.
So for instance the filename for my first entry would be captainblood1.jpg
In your email - as well as attaching your entry pic - you need to tell me:
1. Your LAF user name
2. The title of your team or picture (please try to keep these as short as you can)
3. If the team is newly painted, or if it has been previously shown online or in print
The official deadline to get your round one entry in (and thus declare your intent to take part in the league) is by 12.00 GMT on Saturday 12 March 2011.
However, please do not leave it to the last minute, as we need to establish how many competitors we have in total and then have time to schedule the first round of matches. So please get your first entry in as soon as you can. Thank you :)
-
My entry sent ;) :)
Good luck to everyone!
Cheers
Guy
-
The first 4 are in!
I should have said by the way that I will always acknowledge receipt of your entry.
If I don't, within 24 hours, please PM me here to double check.
But you should always get a fairly prompt acknowledgement from me.
If you don't get an acknowledgement, then your entry may not have been received!
-
Questions:
* Can several entries be sent in one e-mail?
* Can I enter round 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 now and later send entries for the other rounds?
-
Yes to both questions. :)
-
As a quick follow up to phreedh's question.
Can we submit all our entries early?
I am guessing yes also, just need to clearly mark which round.
Cheers Captain
-
Yes, as you say, just clearly mark which entry is for which round and I simply deposit the image into the correct folder ;)
-
I just send my first entry
the figures look good but the picture is so, so lol
-
I know what you mean. It's taken me almost as long to take the pictures as I did to paint the first entry! Need a bit more practice but at least the first week is in.
-
sad sas i didnīt have PC at the moment only at work :'(

Too true, setting up, lighting, getting a good picture is all part of the LPL. Being naturally lazy in taking pictures I like how the LPL forces me to think about that as well, trather than just painting.
Yesterday I finished my round 2 entry, I want to photograph that one before I do my round 1 entry 8)
-
same for me here, since my Camera is pretty crap it will takes a coupple of Days to take a good Pic.So far i finished Entries 1-4,still no Idea what to do in Round 10 im thinking about a Planet Of The Apes Setting,i have a coupple of Boilersuit Apes from Eureka around ???
-
Contestants 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 are in! :o

we're working at it.

There's always a way, there must be a Grimm in the LPL :)

Of course: a LPL without Grimm is like sailing without wind ...

-
I'm just doing the eyes and bases on my entry. They're pretty good, but not my best, gotta keep going on to Week 2 and so on, plus I have to 'network' tonight. ;-)
-
11 and 12 are in... 8)
-
13 is in.
-
sad sas i didnīt have PC at the moment only at work :'(
Never stopped me ;)
Seriously, you can do a bit of photo editing with Irfanview, which is free, and if you do it during your own time I hope no-one will mind 8)
Though you may find another solution of course 8)
-
13 is in.
Please don't tell me I am number 13 :'( :'( :'(
-
Please don't tell me I am number 13 :'( :'( :'(
Ah...
:D
-
Wishing the detail showed up better in the photos, but I only have an iPhone and 800 pixels is only so big and the miniatures are pretty small.
Email sent so I'm officially in, not sure if I can keep up the pace or if I'll be able to top my week one entry...
-
14 is in.
-
I must be 14. Thought of one or two more things I ment to highlight again... o_o
-
15 and 16 are in :)
Everyone else - you have just over one week left! :o :o :o ;D
:D
-
As the accountant who will be doing all the sums... I think we have reached the limit of my capacity... o_o
Okay... a couple more. ;)
-
17, 18, 19 and 20 are in! :)
-
I'm finishing my first entry tomorrow and I will join the contest if it's still possible.
-
Yes, no problem.
You have until 12.00 Greenwich Mean Time on Saturday 12th March to get your entry in.
Plenty of time :D
-
Thanks for the quick response!
-
I really need to photograph the few entries I have done...
-
I've made good progress on my entries and hope to finish basing today with photos and entry on Wed when I have a day off
-
Entry is sent!
-
21 and 22 are in :)
-
Out of curiosity, how many people take part in LPL 4?
-
46.
-
And 48 in LPL3 - although one withdrew halfway through (no, I don't really understand why either), so I also withdrew to keep the numbers even, so we ended up with 46... ::)
46 seems the magic number. I figure it will be there or thereabouts once again.
-
23 is in :)
-
I finished my week two entry. Week three will take a lot longer, so much so, Week 1 may have to make a comeback, but we'll see. Oh and I keep on blogging... (http://musksminiatures.wordpress.com/2011/03/05/painted-more-miniatures/)
-
24 and 25. In.
-
Ah, lucky number 24.

Is it really possible to 'withdraw'? I'd thought once you are in, you are in. If not I think the rules should say so.
-
IMHO shouldn't be possible to withdraw.
If anybody doesn't want to continue the competition, his last entry will be automatically submitted until the end.
Marco

Marco
That's how I think it should work.
-
I don't disagree, and that's what most people are content to let happen if they lose interest halfway through.
But this particular person (I forget who it was now) was quite insistent that they no longer wished to compete - and as there was nothing in the rules about it (and still isn't), I had to go with their wishes.
However, now you've reminded me, I shall add a rule to the effect that once in, you can't withdraw - your most recently supplied team will run through to the end of the league. All competitors and would-be competitors, please take note!
-
Fine with me. You're the boss. :)
-
In the LPL4 we had another withdraw, but with a replacement. Though I have to say, it doesn't make it easier. So I'm with Richard, no withdraw at all.
-
Got mine sent in.
-
26 and 27 are in.
-
My camera works again :D :D :D
But you won't be getting mine until the weekend :)
cheers
James
-
28 and 29 are in.
-
And contestant number 30 has shown his hand ;)
-
And they keep coming :o
-
Less than 4 days left to get entries in...
No pressure :D

Have you ever discussed a maximum number of entries, like what they have over @ Steve Dean's?
-
Just mailed my entry for round 1!
Maybe stretching a little with the theme, but it is historically correct(ish) and improvisation with the models at hand was needed ... ;)
-
Got one model left to finish for my first round entry, and my wife gives me the evil eye whenever I approach the stairs to the cellar (where I paint). I'm not sure I'll be able to finish my entry. =( The last model i finished in the team turned out a bit rushed and crap, due to paint induced matrimonial stress.
So, IF I finish round 1 in time I'll have to enter some old hat (new photos though, and I guess a new audience too) for a few rounds until I have a new entry finished. Got a half finished team ready, and a few other candidates primed and ready for paint.
Participating or not, I'm really pumped about the LPL5 - no doubt! It's an awesome thing on an awesome forum and I'm very grateful you're spending so much personal time on administrating this, Captain & Ray.
-
Taking photos is hard work, :? not that happy with my civvies but I've just entered them

Like looking oneself in the mirror, one year back. :) Wear her out and tell her she needs a her own hobby, that's what I did. (I do, as I think you know by now, talk a lot of shit).
-
32 and 33 are in.
Have you ever discussed a maximum number of entries, like what they have over @ Steve Dean's?
Yes. We thought about that for next time!
The last couple of leagues have had almost 50 contestants. We'll see if this one goes much above that. If it does, we might have to put a limit on the numbers, because with 60, 70, 80 (more ???) it just becomes too much hard work.
But that will be for LPL6!
-

Sound advice, but with a newborn attached to her mammaries I doubt she'll see my side of the argument. =D
-
Pah, she has her hobby (attaching things to her mammaries), you have yours (disappearing into the cellar). That's all perfectly reasonable and not at all likely to get you smacked in the face with a blunt object, isn't it?
-
Pah, she has her hobby (attaching things to her mammaries), you have yours (disappearing into the cellar).
Funny you should say that. *Both* of those are actually my hobbies to, combined but in reverse order. Perhaps we should start a club? :)

o_o o_o
Man I'm cutting it close but I think I will make....I think I can...I think I can... :o
Blue

Guess I'm entry 35, then, as I just dispatched my round 1 photos by email!
-
35, 36 and 37 are in :o
-
I'm happy to participate for the first time !
-
Sent in my entry for round 1 just now, so that makes 39 participants 8)
Looking forward to monday morning to see all the entries!
-
Just sent my First Round entry in (first time entering so hoping not too many laugh at my meager painting skills)
GOOD LUCK TO ALL WHO ENTER!
-
Woo, at this rate I have a 5% chance of never getting Hammered, Heldrakt, or Blooded in my matchups!
-
38, 39 and 40 are in.

Don't worry about those painting skills ... I'm in it too lol
-
I know I will be cutting it close. Since this will be my first time entering I had hoped to have everything in ahead of time. So of course I didn't take any entry photos until last night and still need to resize the ones I will use. Hoping to have at least my first entry sent in Friday.
Tom
-
Don't worry about those painting skills ... I'm in it too lol
Put my entry in so that makes 3 of us!
Good luck everybody!
-
41 is in.
-
41 is in.
My bet is that we are going for a record this season.
-
I think you're right ;)
-
another first timer, just sent in my first 3 pics
I thought painting the figs was the time consuming part, it just took me 2 and a half hours to take and edit 3 pics and the worst bit is that they could be better !!
good luck everyone
-
42, 43, 44, 45 are in.
-
Now, all I have to do is wait till monday morning...
Tumtidum...
To illustrate my feelings

;)
-
Now, all I have to do is wait till monday morning...
Actually, all you have to do is wait until whenever I can get all the polls and images loaded up on Sunday - once I've drawn the matches and typed them all up on Saturday afternoon ;)
-
Woo, at this rate I have a 5% chance of never getting Hammered...
I am not a stranger to false modesty but I think this calls for a "Oh, please... " ::)

This does improve over time. It's my 2nd LPL and it now only takes me about 30 minutes to take several crappy pictures of my entry. Then another 30 minutes to pick out the least crappy one ... more free time to paint! lol
-
round 1 to 4 sent!
hey Captain, confirm please.
LOOKIN FORWARD! :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
All ten of mine are in, and have been for a few days now...
-
46 and 47 are in.

Hold me Richard, I am frightened! :'(

Got to feel sorry for Ray as well :'(

I am reminded of that depth meter countdown from Das Boot, where they are sinking in the straights of Gibraltar...

-
May God have mercy on us all...
::)
-
51... ;D
>:( >:( >:(
;)
-
Oh, the humanity...! :o :o :o

Heck that's a lot of entrants. :o Wonder if it'll hit the big 60?!
Mine has varnish drying at the mo, ready for photos first thing tomorrow.
-
I am reminded of that depth meter countdown from Das Boot, where they are sinking in the straights of Gibraltar...
seen again that film yesterday...
the captain says something like "I really do not understand why it's not collapsed yet" lol
-
Feck! LPL4 I managed to come 12th,not bad considering.....This will be interesting.
-
I am a little curious to see if the server copes with the Sunday morning rush to vote.
-
A-hawhawhawhaw! In your face, time! I actually managed to finish painting my round 1 entry, but will have no time for silly things like varnishing. Ugh.
Currently waiting for the first layer of pva and sand to dry on the bases so I can get on with finishing them off. Pictures tomorrow and then an entry...
-
Gentlemen (and any ladies here present),
From comments on this thread and elsewhere, I estimate that there may be as many as a dozen more entries on their way, that have been signalled.
Plus whatever I don't know about...
In view of this, I think we are very likely looking at 60+ competitors, and in view of that - and the not inconsiderable administrative workload that is going to involve, setting up all those matches each week, and everything that goes with it, I have to tell you I'm going to be very strict about the entry deadline.
If you are planning on taking part, you have until Midday GMT tomorrow, Saturday 13 March to get your Round 1 entry in. That's about 14 hours from now.
If you miss the deadline, I'm really sorry, but I'm not going to be squeezing in any extras an hour or two afterwards. Just so we're clear :)
-
Phew - just got my entry sent - been mucking around with the photo and falling asleep at the comp these past 3 nights! o_o
-
Saturday 13 March
do you mean Saturday 12 march, right? so the time is over! I'll wait impatientely for the first round!
-
Phew - just got my entry sent - been mucking around with the photo and falling asleep at the comp these past 3 nights! o_o
And that's just week 1!
I just went through all matchups of the LPL4, lots of very nice entries and very nice painting in there.
-
Quick! Somebody buy Grimm a new computer! ;)
-
Entry just submitted. Starting on round 2 minis, which will probably be submitted somewhere around round 8...
-
60 entries so far. Three and a half hours left... o_o
-
:o :o :o
Oh YAY...I'm in! ...I've stayed up WAAAYYYY to late trying to get it done...but I just sent it off...4am my time... o_o ::) :P ;D :'(
Now off to bed!
Hang in there Captain! ....and thanks!
Cheers,
Blue
-
63...
We're sinking fast, boys ;)
Two and a half hours left.
-
Just sent mine in! :D
-
less than ten minutes left.
it is gonna be a GREAT competition!
-
Technically, an hour and 10 minutes I believe, as the Cap is on GMT time (aka UK clock)
-
right. many others will add their works, then!
-
And mine is in too, not civilians and not new, but I am in
-
65.
One hour remaining.
-
And we're IN! =D
-
Mine's in, with 4 minutes to spare! Apologies for the (literally!) last minute entry - I've been absurdly busy this week.
-
Entries to the league are now closed.
We have...
Drum roll, takes paracetamol...
72 participants!!!
Aaaaargh.
-
My comiserations, captain. ;)
-
Wowzaaa, thats a third more then last year :o :o :o
-
Bloooooooooody hell....... it's a big un!
Are there any other painting comps of this magnitude? Potentially, that's (quick bit of math) more than 4000 minis being shown. :o
-
o_o
It's gonna take up half of Sunday just to vote for all the participants!!!
This is just crazy, did somebody run a commercial campaign we didn't know of on the League?! ;D
Allright, paint on and good luck to all!
-
Thank god I am unemployed at the moment. It will give me time to look at all the matches :D
-
Bloooooooooody hell.......
Literaly! lol lol lol
-

Drooling, can't wait to see the entries!
-
Drooling, can't wait to see the entries!
Can you wait until next sunday? I'm guessing that's how long it's gonna take to sort out 72 contestants!
Go Captain go!!! (my deepest sympathy)
-
Wow! o_o
Certainly going to be one heck'va competition this year... lots of eye candy and lots of fun.
Now on a serious note.
On the accounting side of things, you can rest assured that I will do the best I can to be as accurate as possible. With luck I will have the good Captain look over my math before posting the Leaderboards.
But you all have to understand that I will be doing this essentially manually. So there is great scope for error. I highly encourage all participants to check their scores to ensure accuracy. If there is any problem, please PM me, I will recheck the math, make any corrections, and if necessary post a new leaderboard.
Good luck to everybody!
Can't wait to see the photos! ;D
-
Entry send "just in time"
-
72 :o
LPL is going to be a serious workload! Hang in there Captain and Ray, we know you guys can do it!
Good luck to all
-

Drum roll, takes paracetamol...
72 participants!!!
Aaaaargh.
So that's why I took a rivet in the chest... I suppose it was a mistake to announce the competition at TGN.
-
It was announced there last year as well.
It will be fun. ;)
Oh yea... I'm going to need a bigger calculator. lol
-
Woohoo I'm in as well!
After a short "sabatical" it feels good to participate again. Just need to figure out all the teams that are going to be painted o_o
-
Oh well - foiled again. After managing to get over the obstacles of two trips to the ER and my eleven-month old having bronchitis, I fell at the last hurdle - taking decent photos. I just couldn't figure it out! And despite having four rounds already painted! Damn it! Oh well. I'll start a thread - once I've figured out the photo thing - since sometimes project threads are few and far between during the LPL.
Still, looking forward to all the eye candy of LPL 5 - best of luck to all who had the luck/fortitude/skill/determination to get that first round entry in. I can't wait to see them all tomorrow!

Bronchitis, poor mite...
-
Thanks, Hammers. He's getting better, and at least it's not pneumonia. The funny part (silver lining and all that) is that four times a day he has to breathe through an aerosol/vapouriser thing for a few minutes, and he loves it. The problem is that he looks like he's smoking crack. I don't know whether to take a photo of it or not - of course, my photography skills are so bad that it probably wouldn't matter if I did.
In any case, best of luck to all the LPL5ers - maybe I'll make it for LPL6 - and thanks again, Hammers.

Jesus, Mary and the other bloke :o :o :o
Yours is a job I don't envy :P
I'm out this time because I had some unexpected errands to run today which took all my photography time :? :(
Good luck to everyone who got their first round in :D 8)
cheers
James
-
Now that will be cool! 36 grups in ten rounds... a lot of work but i am sure it's worth all the work. Can't wait for the first round.

Yes, the LPL casts a dry spell over the rest of the LAF, I'm looking forward to seeing your stuff none-the-less. And take a picture of your son, he might like it in twenty years time. My dad made a piccie of me sucking on a bottle of coke when I was a kid and I love that picture 8).
I'm glad to be participating this LPL, it's going to be a monster competition that has no equal.
Oh yea... I'm going to need a bigger calculator. lol
Hehehehe :D
-
Seventy-two participants! It's going to be a cracking competition, no doubt about it! And you're right about the photo, Pil - it's too funny not to take a photo of, and it's better for him to have the photo in the future, than not to have it. As for the dry spell that the LPL casts over the rest of the forum - it's more than made up for by all the eye candy we get in the league itself, but if I can get the photography thing sorted out, then I'll start that thread - it would be nice to see it run as the league gathers momentum!
I can hardly wait until tomorrow! 36 pairings to look at! It's going to be great!
-
Maybe it's good this isn't happening Monday morning. Casting that many votes would take considerable time away from work. :)
-
No, Bezzo, his priorities sound about right to me!
-
No, I got that Bezzo - I grew up in Ireland, and lived there for thirty years. I was being what we call in Ireland "a smart-arse". Sometimes I'm not quite sure how I ended up in Kansas - and before you ask, it wasn't a tornado. It just felt like one....
-
Well, good luck to all those involved (and the best of luck to me :D).
I grew up in Ireland...Sometimes I'm not quite sure how I ended up in Kansas - and before you ask, it wasn't a tornado. It just felt like one....
Did it, perchance, have anything to do with potatoes (or lack thereof)?
Edit: Just to point out, this is (an attempt at) another one of those jokes...
-
Actually, it sort of did have something to do with potatoes, and not the famine either - it's that I don't like them! Since they're such a dietary staple in Ireland, I had to leave! No, I left for work - like lots of Irish people in the late eighties and early nineties. It looks like the same thing is going to happen all over again now....
I keep looking for an LPL5 thread, hoping that the first round will be up a little early, but no such luck. I feel like such a junky.
-
Wow! That's quite the number. Didn't make it in this time. Server problems at the house & my access is limited at work. So I was unable to send any pictures. Wish you all the best of luck. :?
-

I thought it was just me!
-
Sorry I may be mistaken but it started this morning at the back of 10 o'clock.
