The kimono`s are gorgeous, the class picture and their `careers` hilarious... very tough one for me

These two will be going neck to neck all week long I think, and well deserved! Top entries!

Just a question: Though I love the picture of the monks and am really awed by the work on the kimonos - are these guys really in one team? It looks more like a standoff between two rival groups.

Please don't take this as slandering - I'm just curious.

So that's what happened to the class of '68.   :D
Very clever entry Heldrak.

I think the monks are the (non-combatant) 'team' and as long as the main team is five or more models you can add whatever adversaries you fancy.

Both entries are very well painted but I've never been a big fan of Scooby Doo and that building in the background of the second pic, not to mention the models in front of it, are just so colourful and fantastic!

Really like the Class (especially with the Lovecraft twist!) but the monks are probably my favourite entry in this round. Amazing work!

If you're talking about the flute-playing figure with the enclosing basket-weave hat, I believe that the proper term for it is tengai, a common piece of headgear worn by Japanese monks when they travelled.

Yes, I have to say I got a very good opponent here - what a nice painting!

@the monk "basket": Yes, monsk used to wear these kind of "helmets" on travels. The thing is, that you weren't allowed to put them off from any monk if you weren't a monk yourself. So Ninja wore it to escape or to get into castle. I don't exactly know the name of the Daymio, but one escaped fromt his sieged castle in such an outfit!

exactly.

I should have looked more at the background. Okay, that clears it up for me.  :)

Great brushwork all around (those kimonos!!!), but the Miskatonic got my vote for humor and style. great use of the Scoobies!

I love the class photo with the Lovecraft twist - that wins it for me. Lovely painting on both, but I think it's a bit easier to see on the first entry, add that to the twist (it sounds like I'm making a cocktail), and that tipped the scales for me. But another very close one to call - two really nice entries!

I'm sure it's a translation issue  :)
I think Alex_Nay means 'terribly good'  ;)
Doesn't make any sense otherwise...

Heldrak

I would hope this is a mistake in translation...the subtlety of your shading is exquisite!

Cheers,

If he/she is French it means great, if not it means what it means... but it's only an opinion (even if a slightly unusal one) and I'm sure that even if the person thought that then they wouldn't be so blunt...
