Is "Robery" a nickname that he earned for some unscrupulous dealings?

:D That'll teach me to check the spellings on my posts more fully.

Any ETA on the armed settlers and provincials/regulars?

Having had my hands on this chap from the new command pack for a couple of weeks I finally got around to painting him! My usual method for shading figures is using washes, but these don't come out too well in photos (at least the ones I take anyway...) so I've adapted my style to suit.
Hope you notice the Scrimshaw work on his powder horn!

Hi Aaron,

Not really, mainly 'cos if I open my mouth about a likely date, I'm pretty well bound to put my foot in it  ::)

However, I'll start putting up some bits to look at before long  ;)

Nice one Derek, especially the scrimshaw work - I love those kinds of details.

I've added pictures of the Robert Rogers figure I've recently painted onto the website, more on the Studio page, I'll do a brief painting guide for the pack soon.

Absolutely beautiful brushwork sir!  Thanks for the inspiring photo.

If you have any hints in the painting guide for painting african flesh tones for Duke, that would be appreciated as well.  I continue to struggle with flesh, I've recently tried to paint a adopted Mohawk (Caucasian) in the same manner that I paint my faces, and he just looks kinda yellow-y?

He looks rather dapper in that get-up, doesn't he? Like it.

Fergal - I'm planning to do a painting guide for this pack (3 figures) including Duke, but I'll put up a couple of pics before then. The only thing is my digital camera I'd been using for 9 years gave up the ghost on me recently (just after my computer was 2 weeks in dock after being hit by various malware etc. - more techno-hassle  :-[ ) and I'm breaking in a new one, hoping to improve on these ones which are coming out just a bit dark and grainy for my liking. That may leave Duke's African skintones not coming out so clearly, but fingers crossed  ;)

Here's a picture of the painted Major Robert Rogers pack:

It is a bit on the dark side, though less so than some of the others. Duke Jacob's face has more contrast when looking at the figure than appears in this pic, I'll put up some detail pics later.

Difficult to say Aaron, I've got several types all jostling for my attention, British regulars may be a while before the first release comes together. Provincials are coming along nicely, but will probably take at least 3 master moulds before they appear, due to on-conversions. The first civilians on the Studio page are all "Settlers Defending", Militia will come later, although some of the settlers could be mixed in with them for added variety. And then there are more Indians. The French are currently lagging way behind.

I'm doing the odd few civilians in the "settlers defending" style (proper militia types will follow later) alongside other stuff, so they should start to appear a pack at a time before too long.  ;)

Thanks Aaron  :)

We're now selling "Sharp Practice" and "This Very Ground" from our website (the printed ones in the case of Sharp Practice), and we're giving a "Soldiers Free" figure with any orders of rules and books.
http://www.gallopingmajorwargames.com/page4.htm

They're both great for FIW unit skirmishes, and as I'm frequently asked for recommendations for rules, we thought these were ideal, and it's good to have a choice.

Sharp Practice has had quite a lot of exposure on this forum, including that really good thread by Silent Invader a little while back using his own adaptations of the rules. The rules are perfectly suited to the FIW as they stand, what with rules for American Indians etc, but Richard's featured FIW rule supplement and two great scenarios in the Summer Special (available now from the TwoFatLardies website folks  ;) ), give some great additional twists, characterisation and period flavour.

You must have been one of the first to get your hands on it Aaron, it's a good one, isn't it.

Cheers,

Lance

I think I must have been one of the first. The quality of the TFL rules combined with the inexpensiveness of the .pdf made it a very easy decision.

I like TVG also, particularly the varying levels of firepower. I think I'm going to try to graft that part of their rules onto the SP variant.

Must admit, I haven't had time to read it all yet, but what I have is brilliant, a bargain I'd say.

Forgot to mention for everyone else's interest, the FIW supplement is called "La Longue Carabine".

Here's a pic I took at the same time as the ones in the supplement:

Here are a couple from the Rogers pack, and some from the Rangers Command painted by Christophe Coquet for VaeVictis, the great French language wargames magazine  8)

I've added them to the Gallery page of the website.

Hi Piero,
Certainly mate, various types on snowshoes are on my list (it's a long list though), they'll be after the Provincials, settlers and some of the Regulars. Before full winter snow-shoes etc kit, I'll make a few Canadians with capotes, waistcoats etc (but not quite fully muffled up for snow) to mix in with the ones in shirts.
Cheers,
Lance
