The first of my long overdue crew for some piratical fun. :)
I started painting these in december, only managed to get the bases finished today ::)
Not my best painting by any means, and I need to get a few more completed for a forthcoming campaign.
Fortunately I have this week off work to crack on with them amongst other things...

Nice. You know I have painted nos 2 and 4 in exactly the same colour scheme... They just look like bluejackets don't they? ;)
-
Very nice indeed :D
I don't know, these people with time off, it's alright for some ;D ;)
cheers

Bit of a drastic way of getting some painting time but good work 8)
-
I dunno, you wait for one salty sea dog then four come along at once!
Excellent ... oudles of character. I particularly like the chap with the tache as he has a certain 'air' about him.
8) :-*

Top work 8)
Would look good crewing on the Great Lakes lol

Peaches avec du sel!

Splendid. :D
Mind you, they're going to be pretty confused when they find themselves on the ramparts of the Alamo... ;D
-
Yaaaargh! >:D
Great stuff!
-
Lovely work sir! I like the way you've used a limited palate. Most pictures you see of real pirates tend to show them mostly in white and dull shades, usually with only the odd bit of colour. Very effective base work too 8)
I take it you are saving the captain till last?

Yep, get the crew done first and save Captain Malachai Abraham Mute and first mate Peachy Gali Bago til last... ;)

.....Captain Malachai Abraham Mute ....

Excellent crew, I can't really understand why you give me money lol
Because that's his entire painting output for 2011 so far ::)
Being a lead baron takes up a lot of time ;)
-
These are good. :)
Makes me want to paint a few pirates. (Maybe after the "African" project.)
-
Glad to see these getting some paint after all the years sitting in my lead pile.
Lovely job :-* :-* :-*
Almost inspiring me to dig out and paint the ones I have left.
I say almost as I am bit busy with the LPL painting some of the figures you sent me.
-

Being an eccentric millionaire and a lead baron might have something to do with it. ;)
......And my inability to find the time to paint, must take more sick leave ;)

I'd expect nothing else :-I

Wonderful stuff Nick. Really nice whites, and the simple colours give them a nice unit coherence. :)
If you pull a few more sickies you'll be set up for the next LPL, no worries! lol
-
Nick you are using these for Legends of the high seas?
After painting up my pirates for the LPL I have been bitten by the pirate bug.
What do you think of the rules?
Worth the twenty quid?

Yep we have started a campaign using LOHS.
The rules are the usual basic GW rehash of all their other games. ::)
They work ok, are quick and simple to learn.
Are they worth £20, probably not, There are others out there which are I am sure equally as good or better, or as Captain Blood would say write your own on a single side of A4 paper. ;)
Predictably I was seduced by the glossy pictures in the book lol
-
Thanks
As for writting my own I am a bit lazy when it comes to that sort of thing.
How many figures do you need for a crew in the game?
-
We have been playing four sided games with 10 figures per side. They have given us games lasting three - four hours. No reason why you couldn't play with more or less figures depending on how good you make their stats.
-
Oooooh! Missed these. Very nice indeed. Any pics of the games?

No way, the illustrations are horrible, plain old horrible. Some of the pictures of the miniatures are nice, but the book would have benefited from some more proffessionally made illustrations.
But the rules them self are nice, and much better than one would think, even if they lack a bit, especially the campaign rules, they are sad. The sailing rules are a bit wonky as well.

Do you have a better suggestion, please.
Cheaper as well would be nice :D
PS Sorry for stealing the thread

Better suggestion for what if I might ask? Do you mean the campaign rules or the sea warfare rules? If I had better, I wouldent have bought this book :-P

We found the ship to ship combat a bit stale - especially the fiddly boarding rules. Moving figures an inch apart on a 6 inch wide ship with cannons in the way is NOT fun or easy. We came up with our own house rules on ship to ship, but the boarding was a real issue we never beat.
