I really struggle with the photography thing. One of the problems is to find a good backdrop that gives the right colour and light. I would therefore be grateful if anyone could share how to make/buy a suitable backdrop. Paint a blue sky or ?
Grateful for any help!

Well I prefer to use a blue/white gradient backdrop....that gives results like this:

Here I can link you to some copies if you want to download them and print them out...I've made the 11x17 inches but you can resize if you want.

I hope that helps.

I just get pictures from Google image search, print them out A4 sized and shoot the minis in front.
eg.

or a mottled card from a hobby store - the type that sells cardmaking/scrapbooking/knitting type stuff

My field, trees and sky backdrop can be found at this page of my blog:

Or just use white or black A4 paper.

I've got a PDF of different coloured gradient backgrounds (http://www.warbard.ca/2011/01/11/gradient-backgrounds-for-photography/) free to download and use.
Blue, a couple shades of gray, tan and black colours, all in one PDF file. Should be printable on any size of paper up to "stupidly huge" and still look good!

I just use a painted bit of board. Long and thin.

I know it's probably not professional, but I use my laptop screen for a backdrop. Just google whatever you want as a background, mountains, sky, something sci-fi. Put something over the keyboard to protect it and some scenery and whoa la.......

Cheap and cheerful!

That is pretty smart ^^^

Thanks for the good ideas and pdf's.

Thanks all!
Excellent stuff! Now I only need to fix the light thing... :'(

I went to the dollar store and bought a sheet of blue poster board.
I use C-clamps to hold one edge to the table and then bend it up and clip the top to a bucket of my terrain sand so there isn't a hard seem.
Then I bring in a stand light on one side and clamp a desk lamp to a chair on the other side. Bring both in close.
But the printed backdrops are spiffing. I may use some.

There's some good ideas in this thread. I used the top half of one of my oil paintings for a couple LPL entries, but printing out on an 11x17 would be so much easier.
