Title: New Plastics/ Warlord Russian Infantry
Post by: joroas on April 26, 2011, 10:59:06 PM
So, I see that coming up in 2011 are:

Perrys are doing Napoleonic British Hussars, ACW Confederates, AWI Infantry and Ansar

Empress/Warlord are doing Zulus and ZW British

Victrix have Napoleonic Austrians and British Rifles (and a vague hint of cavalry)

Wargames Factory have Persians and Samurai

Anything else to look forward to?

Sheer goodness.........  :D

I think Immortal miniatures are bringing out some Persians too. And Victrix have some hoplites in the making.

Some more from Bolt Action perhaps? And more romans from Warlord if I'm not mistaken...

Yes BAM has also a preview on GIs and the phalanx for the ancient stuff. Immortal will do perfect persians. And I am sure we will see a lot more :)

I'm not holding out much hope for the WF samurai though, if any of the other figures are to go by  :?

Oh, AFAIK the new WF Samurai were just one-offs in 54mm. I think it would be impossible to cast them in 28mm though.

Aren't  the Perries doing Austrians and Russian Napoleonics as well? Or are those metal?  PSC doesn't do much for me in terms of minis but I am looking forward to seeing their 1/56 T-34's, their 15mm and 20mm versions look quite good.

No doubt the much maligned HaT will be churning out more product.

Yes, Austrians, Russians and Prussian Reserve.

I really couldn't be bothered to go through the PMT debate about it to find out what was going on  o_o (there probably wasn't a resolution anyway  ::) )

Well at the risk of reopening the debate that raged over on Woman's Realm...

I recently got to see a box from WF in its current incarnation. Pure comedy gold. The cardboard box looked like it had been put together as a craft project by a not terribly bright eight year old using odd scraps from a cereal packet. Ok cheap and cheerful you say, yes but the really funny bit was the printing on the side. Where the product contents info was supposed to go was printed , I shit you not, 'put historical blurb here'. Whatever the merits of the new ownership vs the old, the new chaps are either blessed with a deft comedic touch or are the most disorganised arse clowns in the biz. I suppose the sloppy packaging softens up the prospective buyer for the moment when they open the box, spill out the contents and discover they have bought a box of cavalry whose mounts are missing bridle and reins.

Alas, I doubt too many folk will get to enjoy the joke. I really can't see too many retailers wanting to stock the bloody things. There is a sort of strange irony in the fact that under it's previous ownership the goods were packaged by a company that hires the disabled.

They'll be plastics all right, as Stephan said, and they will be supplemented by some metal packs. But even though Perry Miniatures have not given a release date for these, they're unlikely to come out in 2011 given everything the twins have in the pipeline. They will probably be released some time in 2012, or very late this year in the best of cases.

To be honest, my inner woman could not be bothered to read beyond the third post of that dreary soap opera. WF has become something of a non-subject, methinks, but the PMT mob doesn't look like it's willing to let it die peacefully.

They never do  ::)

Apparently, Rendera are snowed under with orders which is why there are such delayed release dates.

I'm suddenly reminded of the famous Peter Cook line in Bewitched : 'You fill me with inertia'   :D

Definitely agree. If Perry made plastic samurai, I would be over the moon.

Yes, just look at the new tons of plastics from Salute... And I am sure there are companies which are also doin 3-UPs at the moment but didn't make any preview.

Just in from Warlord:
Quote
As you can see from the pictures of the 3-ups there is a lot of variety in terms of headgear with short shakos for musketeers and sporting plumes for grenadiers. Similarly there are tall shakos also in unplumed musketeer fashion and also with the remarkably ostentatious earlier plume for the ghrenadiers. There are also covered shakos included.

These miniatures are three part models – with two separate pieces (heads and backpack/ammo pouch/sword combination) – allowing you a great degree of variety (or uniformity if you prefer)  in your regiments  yet not having you chained to the desk for days building them.

We’ll bring you more pictures and details in the newsletter soon but for now all you need to know is they are away being tooled! No firm release date for them yet but you’ll be the first to know when we do! In the meantime check out next week’s newsletter where we’ll be previewing yet another plastic set and another period…

BAM has also a preview on GIs

Stephan
What's the skinny on Bolt Action's GIs? There's nothing on the Warlord site about them yet.

just one thing about the WF samurais:

i'm NOT a fan of the WF, i don't like almost all of their models, but they always made 3d models instead of 3 ups. those samurais are 3 ups, so maybe they changed sculptor, and who knows....

of course, perry or Warlord Games would be really much more promising!

Thanks for uploading those pictures, Regulator! Great to see them in the green and know what to expect.
They look good so far, a set of GIs in plastic is well due!

Indeed they are, but there's another company starting to take up some slack. I believe it's the one BAM use (can't remember the name) but Warlord have been having stuff done by them too.
