Its only a 4 x 4 board! Amazing! :o
-
speechless.
-
Excellent...very realistic and extremely well done.
-
That is a true labour of love. I am in awe. :-*
-
Crazy good looking, though after having watched Deadwood I must add "it needs more mud and dirt" lol
-
That really is an INCREDIBLY WELL DONE scenic piece; most Western town scenes are limited to the main drag...it's cool seeing all the back streets & alleys. A GREAT find!
-
Work like this is so inspirational - I have to go back and fix up my pathetic attempt at a town. I love the details and accouterments especially. Weeks of work ahead of me trying to emulate this. The scratch-built details make this an educational experience. Thanks so much for the posting!
-
WoW! Simply brilliant.
-
Bloody hell, that is incredible.
Fantastic stuff.
Love the little details like the washing on the line.
-
Inspiring

This is why, even though I don't currently do any Western gaming and it's not an area I'm terribly interested in, I'm a regular visitor to the Old West forum - the buildings are often inspired and sometimes brilliant!
The idea of a curved street to enhance the illusion of space is one I'll have to file away for future reference. It wouldn't be as easy to pull off with the early-20th-C pulp era I mostly game, but it's still a great idea.
-
This is finally a really good looking western town. I am completely surprised how great this looks. Lots of details ( the outhouse ) . Must be a joy to play on this board.
Good idea that the houses and fences are not painted
Thank you !
-
Very impressive, congratulations :o
I like the back streets and the curved main street too.
The blog says that this town could be used for NZ wars too? Did old NZ towns look like this too? (only asking, I know nothing about NZ wars) ???
-
Wow indeed.

Some New Zealand towns did indeed look quite "Wild West", though this look was more evident for the gold towns of the later 1800s, particularly in the South Island. Take Arrowtown for example:
http://www.arrowtown.com/arrowtown/history/
So, while still not strictly correct for earlier North Island settings of the NZ Wars, a Western terrain board would suffice with a stretch of imagination.
But if you want to be more accurate than that, then take a look here for a better idea of NZ buildings that were more likely to be encountered in the North Island during the wars:

Great URL! Some very good info and inspiration for those of us who will never get to see NZ in real life :D
Thanks!

Count yer blessings boy. Fortunately it's mostly just a refuelling stop for me.

Compared to where I live, it's paradise. Ask Svennn - he bugged out lol lol

Thanks. I had no idea of that. I learned something today! :) I like these "Raupo" buildings.
So LAF is an educational forum, isn't it ?
Don't tell people that this forum is educational: they would run away! lol

Got to have a game on this board on Sunday. Eight people with 3 figures each, using Rules with No Name. Lots of fun and it did come down to last man standing. Of the rest, almost all surrendered or ran away. The terrain was fantastic. Two 2'x4' boards make up the town. Many of the buildings are "cut off" flush with the table edge, effectively making them false fronted, which adds to the illusion of size. A brilliantly thought out terrain piece. I took some photos which will be posted shortly.

Thanks very much for posting my pics. And thanks for the response, everyone!
There are now a lot more pictures, for those who are interested, on my blog:

I hope that you are aware that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. You are going to get a lot of it I think.
-
Dear Gods! :o That looks spectacular! So lucky to play on such a table.
-
That is epically good. :D
-
Brian - Imitation? So long as no one has nicer boots than mine...
I put up a tutorial on the blog so people could pick my brain. Great response so far - if there's suddenly an Old West building boom, so much the better!
