The following are some of my earliest efforts with my painting style (which I'm very comfortable with... drab color choices and all ;)). I started these about 4 years back. I got about as far as tribal warriors and then the project stalled. 15mm Nam, 20mm moderns and 28mm Pulp all got in the way, but I fully intent to "return to Africa" one day.
First up, explorer/hunter types

I for one heartily endorse your color choices. I don't call them drab, I say "naturalistic" ;)
Very nicely done!

Next up, some tribal witchdoctors and villagers

Excellent! Don't look drab to me either 8)

Very nice, my very favorite minis (the Obelisk Tong figures painted by OrcTrader)are painted in more restrained colors. Restraint has its place in interpreting our little lead dollies at times :D.

I hope some of you get a chance to see (and even play with!)Todd's minis. They are really quite outstanding.

You're too kind Peabody. :)

I think your muted palette is also to my liking. Looking good, Todd! :)
Thanks for showing us the croc. Never heard of that figure. That's a good size for a pulpy "man-eater of..." scenario.

Most effective! Very nice indeed...

very nice. The muted palette works well.

Excellent color choices! The khaki is a great shade.

Thanks a bunch fellas.
Remington, the croc comes from this Tamiya 1/35 plastic Mesozoic Creatures kit: http://www.ehobbies.com/tam60107.html which has all kinds of goodies for Lost World scenarios.

My local brick-and-mortar hobby shop usually has that Tamiya Mesozoic Creatures set in stock, I think I'll have to pick it up now - I've been waffling as I wasn't sure of the sizes, but that croc looks just fine for a pulp jungle setting... "The Man-Eater of the Ongobongo River!" or similar!
The rest of the figures look great too!

Thanks Brian! :D
"The Man-Eater of the Ongobongo River!" or similar!
Exactly what I was thinking.

Ongobongo bongo I don't want to leave the Congo... ;D

Peabody you crazy Canuck.
What was that movie about that gynormous croc that was killing people? I think it was set in Africa? And no... not Lake Placid.

Crocodile Dundee? lol
There's Primeval (not to be confused with the ITV monsters-from-time TV show thing) which is based on the real-life "croc serial killer" Gustave from Burundi.

That's the one! Thanks Plynkes.
