Title: An impressive Gladiator arena in styrofoam
Post by: Doug ex-em4 on May 18, 2011, 10:27:55 AM
Brian Homenick's styrofoam gladiator arena is well worth taking a look at. Here's a "how-to" article in the Combat Zone Chronicles:

Why anyone would embark on building a thing like that in that awful crumbling material (it looks to me as if it the 'pellet' type?) is a complete enigma to me, but it is very well done.  :o  He must have a very good hot wire cutter.

In my experience (and, believe me, I've had some), that kind of insulation material is best used for bombed, ruined concrete...  :)

I imagine the technique could be applied to a more stable material.

Undoubtedly. It just struck me, as everybody out there normally uses the more dense foam that can be easily cut without much risk of crumbling.

You use what you have, you use what you can afford.

A very nice piece.

But the article says this was made 20 years ago.
Was anything elsr available back then?

Cracking piece of work, I'd buy one (if the price was right), but would prefer the new denser foam.
