Title: Forcing a crossing near Byklabad
Post by: Yankeepedlar01 on May 19, 2011, 06:11:02 PM
A few action shots from today's game between Jon and myself. The Mutineers, ably {?} lead by Jamjah Singh Bykli hold a strategic ford over the River Bykla, just south of the town of Byklabad. Lord Walton, in command of the HEIC/HM Force had two hours to force a crossing.

The more reliable Mutineer units, supported by artillery, defend the approaches to the ford.

Less reliable Mutineer units and local Badmash, support the siege guns in the second defensive line.

Lord Walton's left wing advances to engage the Mutineers.

While his right wing moves forward to flank the Mutineers and silence the Great Gun of Byklabad.

Despite losses from fire, the HEIC/HM force presses home its attack on the Mutineer left.

Mutineer cavalry valiantly engage the Gordon Highlanders to {all too} briefly stall the advance of Lord walton's left wing.

As the Mutineer front line crumbles due to failing levels of pluck the Regulars advance to force a crossing, flanked by the Lancers.

Twelve moves played in three minutes under two hours ~ including a brief halt for tiffin! Jon successfully forced a crossing just in time to claim a win as desperate Mutineers finally fled the field, their Pluck having crumbled away under the stress of battle. Only the guns were saved from the enemy...

Hope you enjoyed the brief account of the latest action from Byklabad.

Not Black Powder, my own in development "The Devil's Wind" due out later in 2011.
Table 7' x 4', not small by my standards, but obviously by yours!  ;)

Ooo, sounds interesting  :) Just for the mutiny or other theatres?

Oh, it somehow looked smaller than that  :) I'm lucky to play on a four by four  lol

cheers

Just for the Indian Mutiny, following on from "A Good Dusting" for the Sudan and "Washing the Spears" for the AZW of 1879. I'm no great enthusiast for these one size fits all rules if I'm honest, even though we do play a number of genres using BP at present.

Having been fortunate to play on that table, I can say that about 12 units (10-20 men plus guns) a side looks right.  The Perrys use units twice that size, its a matter of scale.

Tip top stuff yet again. I have to say I always look forward to dispatches from Byklabad.  The games always look like great fun, and the troops and terrain, and don't take this the wrong way, are elegantly simple in presentation yet so evocative of the era.

Thanks for the encouraging responses and sorry for any delay in responding, but I've been away at Matt and Sarah's wedding all weekend.
RAY ~ The dog is a freebie from Warlord games, from the Celtic War dogs pack I think.
TROOPER ~ Terrain has to be simple/generic as it portrays actions from all over. My great friend Phil Robinson made it all for me, so he should get all the credit. As to the figures, well simple is all I could ever manage really, but I do like the look of the whole thing myself too I have to say.
GlutMax ~ Thanks for the very nice comment. Glad someone else likes looking at my little efforts.
Now, I have another Mutineer Infantry unit to grass and varnish tomorrow...

Nice report and photo's, wish I could have been there. Speaking of which the Rajah of Rawnli is not amused that you let the ferenghi get the better of you, at least you did not lose his big weapon. His wife would have been even less amused.
