Title: WK's goblin landsknecht project - Goblin/Halfling Wizard greens (18/8)
Post by: white knight on May 19, 2011, 11:07:12 PM
Yeah, you read that right, another one.

While John is working away on more dwarfish goodness, I couldn't resist the temptation to ask one of my sculpting idols, the great Kev Adams, to do some of his iconic goblins for the range, kitted out in landsknecht gear. And they look pretty fantastic, it looks like Kev really strived to make these some of his finest goblins yet, surpassing all expectations.

There are 4 poses to start with.
There are 6 heads that fit all 4 bodies.
3 of the bodies have interchangeable weaponhands (spear, halberd and two swordvariants) and a separate shield.
The 4th is armed with a handgun and will receive more options after moulding.

More detailed pictures showing the possible combinations will follow when I have them in hand, but I couldn't wait to show you these pictures Kev sent to me.

There are a few more pictures of unassembled bits on the blog: http://whiteknightminiatureimperium.blogspot.com/2011/05/first-pictures-of-landsknecht-goblin.html (http://whiteknightminiatureimperium.blogspot.com/2011/05/first-pictures-of-landsknecht-goblin.html)

did you win the lottery or something a year ago? You know most of us just buy miniatures instead of asking our favoured sculptors to work to our specific tastes.  lol

To be honest, I don't dare to think about the average cost per figure, all included. I can only hope I will be able to make some back from selling a few to the lot of you. ;D

I dunno, with the GW prices on the rise you might be on to something here.  ::)

You need to tell us if/when you cast some up for sale. I know a bunch of Mordheim players that would love this stuff!

I really like these as well, along with the dwarf models. I could find many uses for both ranges in many games I play. Definitely interested in making some purchases here when/if they become available.

These are very nice, they're also for inclusion in your Landsknecht fantasy force like your Orcs, I presume? The loose hands look like they may be a bit fiddly to use but otherwise the head and weapon swaps allow for very easy diversity!

As a Goblin Guy of long standing, all I've got to say is "OH BABY! THOSE ARE OH-SO-COOL!"...I'm mildly impressed. If you're going to go to the lengths you did with your SPECTACULAR Dwarves, I'll have to water-proof my keyboard in anticipation of a heavy drool attack. BEAUTIFULLY SILLY STUFF!

Beautiful stuff, White Knight! There's a whole Renaissance fantasy serie to be made! I think they could work perfectly with Foundry's orcs (maybe someone said the same thing before...).

Only indirectly, unless you count the reaction on the blog. :)

Perhaps not as extensive as the vast plans I still have for the dwarfs, but there will definitely be more variants.

Well, if you don't trust the tag and socket for the hands, you could always use them as a guide to pin the bits. :)

I will definitely announce it here when they become available to the public. :)

Renaissance Goblins  ??? ??? ???

That's? .... different?  - but I like them :)

And no doubt, that Mr. Adams did a great job on them - and will certainly go well with the Mercenary Orcs/Ogres he did for foundry.

Well, it makes more sense than the orcs when you think about it, goblins being more cunning and more prone to seeing the advantages of living an "almost civilised" mercenary life.  ;)

HEAR! HEAR! From my admittedly biased viewpoint as a Goblin Guy, I TOTALLY agree; plus Goblins are a splendid counterpoint to the Dwarves. It's drugs & sex & rock 'n roll VS beer & broads & baritones...sort of a '60s culture clash. Tying the two projects together with the LOVELY costumes of the Renaissance is an inspired touch...it is scant wonder you have become my hero.

I've been silent for a long time about the goblins, but I finally have an update. Kev's been busy converting the existing poses to add more variants and has gone way beyond expectations in making each one unique. He also added more heads and more weapon options. There are 8 new bodies (making for a total of 12), 10 new heads, a few variants for the existing weapons and a crossbow option.

These are now off to the mouldmaker and have been mastermoulded. I am awaiting mastercastings for one final check. If everything checks out, they're up for productionmoulding.

But in the mean time, have some pictures.

The 8 new bodies:

The heads (the missing one is visible in the above image):

Another look at some of the bodies:

Some of the "plug-in" types in action:

The sprues (spears and halberds have  been sprued up differently since). The little shield in the lower right corner has a hand attached to it. This will allow to use the normal (one-handed weapons) on the plug-in type bodies in combination with the shield for even more variety in the poses.

These are fantastic!

I can see a few of these in my Ork Witch Hunters warband, especially with those lovely sallet helmets.

Any idea how long before you have them in production?

I do not mind if it is a while, I need time to get on with everything else!  ;)

Sallet helmets will be available on their own, so if you want you can replace all of the heads to have them.

Any idea how long before you have them in production?

If there are no problems with the mastercastings, sometime next month probably.

Well, the dwarf heads I have from my dwarf project are too big to look good on those bodies, but you could put human heads from the GW empire or bretonnian sets (or other sources) on them and they'd look pretty much like halflings of the slimmer variety. :)

As for the feet, I'm hoping they'll look ok when painted in fleshtones.

Hadn't spotted this thread up until now.  Those little guys are great!  But I really shouldn't buy any until I have painted at least some of the dwarves.  Soon, hopefully.  But I love those goblins, I surely do.  The halfling option is also intriguing...

And here are the completed goblin command figures: a modular captain, 2 modular musicians and two different standards to use with the rank and file models of WKG-01.

The champion comes with separate head and three different weapon options: sword, pistol or flambergé greatsword.

The first musician, the drummer, comes with separate head and is one of my favourite models of the range.

The second musician is a hornblower. No separate head for this one, but he does come with sword or pistol option.

Funds didn't allow a separate model for a standardbearer, but with these two standardhands, you can change any rank and file goblin from the WKG-01 sets into a standardbearer. The standardtops are representing a little goblin cherub (a parody on a well known renaissance theme) and a boar head.

The various bits in the command set:

Aside from the command models, we also have the first of a set of character figures, which can be used as either a general, a hero or another champion. Characters need names of course, so I give you Gob de Leon. He has the option for a bare head or a helmet.

Yes and no. It was a rather typical pose that you found on several citadel minis in those days, there was Ruglud, there was the wardancer figure in skarloc's archers, ... It was more a nod to all of those figures than to a single one alone.

Very nice work! The great sword guy will make a great halfing hero once the halfling heads are released......previews soon?????

Not for a while. Halfling heads were supposed to be sculpted with this batch, but funds and sculpting time ran out, so they will be included in the next batch (after moulding of the goblins).

That said, I have to say that the Goblins are getting more tempting - great job on the characters/command. That Greatsword Champion is wonderful - and pretty sure that a Halfling head will do him good, too ;)

here I am! :D
I'd like to know how much (roughly) I would spend buying the 8 goblin + various weapons sprues + command group + hero (heroes? ;D) + halfling heads. I see 8 dwarfs cost 19 pounds: if the price for the goblins is similar you can trust on my interest since now. :)
Ok, more a little warband than a halfling army but I think is better than nothing.

And, if I can say what I think about halfling heads...a mix of helmets, hats and bare heads as for the gobs would be fantastic  :-*

Well, the goblin infantry are up for sale now, so you can see their price: http://whiteknightminiatureimperium.blogspot.com/2011/12/getting-some-goblin-core-infantry.html (http://whiteknightminiatureimperium.blogspot.com/2011/12/getting-some-goblin-core-infantry.html)

Once the halfling heads are ready, I will likely offer both the option to buy them separately as to swap out the goblin heads in the packs for them (so a pack of halflings would cost the same as a pack of goblins).

The idea is indeed to have a mix of heads (bare, helmets and hats), probably using the goblin helmets and hats as a conversion base.

WK I really like what you are doing and would love to support it.

I would like to place a pre-order, paid in advance for (including postage to Australia)

1 x Hallfing Core Infantry with Spears and Shields 1 (6) (the first stlye)
1 x Halfling Core Infantry with Handguns (6)
1 x Core Infantry with Crossbows (6)
1 x Halfling Command pack

I am not to fussed on the time frame (3-4 months is no issue) as I currently have well over 140 halflings I need to paint up anyway......I would just like to support you with your project and help you to free up some funds.

If you could pm the payment details and I'll pay via paypal.

I also would like to talk to you about advice on getting a halfling character scuptled up as I would mind having a go at commissioning a mini or two.

Some more upcoming figures, goblin characters now.

The first one is named Gobboprince de Lu, based on his passing resemblance to the 80's version of a famous cooky mascotte. He comes with an elegant sword with decorated hilt and a double barreled pistol option.

Since it takes all sorts, the troops are comforted by this lovely goblin floozy. Or is it just a goblin in drag? Either way, you should be in for a quite a unique/horrifying experience.

Gobbo Cortez is widely known for his stylish facial hair, a rare thing among goblinoids, raising suspicions as to whether it might in fact be a fake. Either way, his two pistols tend to be quite convincing in dealing with tose non-believers.

Finally, 6 new goblin infantry heads with various types of morion-style helmets for those who want some troops to match the Gob de Leon and Gobbo Cortez figures.

"Prinzenrolle" and Cortez are must haves - totally love the facial hair idea.

And a drag? Hmm! - not 100% sure - but let me see a painted version - before making any final conclusions.

Right, time for some more new stuff. I hesitated to post these because of the Foundry ones appearing at the same time, but hey. I've received a lot of demand for halfling heads for the goblin bodies, so I caved in and decided to have Kev convert a set of 12 heads to fit on the existing bodies.

Then they needed an upgrade set for the command of course, so enter two more heads for the champion and drummer, a rooster standard and an alternate body for the hornblower arms. Um... yeah, you read that last part right.

Since I haven't had a chance to play around with them yet, Timbor offered to paint up a couple assembled ones to give an idea of what to expect. So here they are:

Great. The gobbo's haven't received a lot of love, so hopefully this will change that.

They were a blast to paint up, and the heads are loaded with character.  My favourites are the ones with no hat or helmet.

Mine as well, it's where the character in the faces really shines. You can see on a couple that Kev had a bit of a hard time to make the transition from sculpting goblin heads with the first ones, hence a couple "naughty" looking ones, but after that he really got into it.

I hope these sell really well for you.

I hope they sell too as that will decide whether the goblin/halfling range gets expanded further or not.

Jokes aside, when will Pete have these ready for us?

And just between you and me .... :) wasn't there something else you wanted to show - something magic ?? ;)

They should be ready around the end of the month. As for that other question, this weekend, after I've had a chance to edit some pictures of them.

Yeah I noticed that as a few were looking rather gobliney/evil/naughty which adds some variety to cheeky looking halflings instead of the usual fat and happy looking bludgers you have on the market thus far.

Last group of new sculpts that will be included in the upcoming late August/early September release are the goblin clerics and wizards, by Kev Adams.

I'll start with the Clerics of Gob (aka "Gob the Almighty" or "The Great Gobbo In The Sky"). Clerics of Gob go into battle wearing light armour and wielding enchanted battlehammers or flaming swords. You could of course use these as armoured wizards and substitute the weapons for those from the wizard sprues.

Then there are the wizards themselves. These come with three body variants, 4 goblin wizard heads and a load of left and right hand options.

The heads are: "pointy wizard hat"-head, "pointy hat and fake beard"-head, "My head is on fire and I'm totally cool with it"-head and "I'm wearing this skullcap and spectacles to look smarter-head.

Right hand weapon options include: "gnarly wood"-staff, curved sword, comical wand and flaming sword.
Left hand options include: "moon emblem"-staff, flaming sword and mystical hammer.

And for those who don't like the idea of goblin wizards, there's a set of alternate heads to turn these into halflings:

Some random assembled examples (obviously some heads work better with some bodies, but there are enough options here to give some nice variety):
