After a long break of many years I'm getting back into the wonderful world of fantasy gaming again. I've already got my rules sorted, got plenty of terrain from my other games, but what I don't have anymore are any suitable figures. Well, none that I really like.
So, what I'm looking for are suggestions for some 28mm figures to make up a small skirmish warband, say around 15-20 figures in total. The problem is I don't really know what I'm looking for other than I'll know it when I see it. Helpful, huh? I already have enough humans so what I'm really after is some sort of beasties that are a little out of the ordinary. I love Otherworld's Kobolds but they are a bit too small for my liking. Orcs & goblins are out because I've a shed full of those already. Don't want to go down the undead route either. I just want something different - Japanese armoured gerbils, Barbarian goats, ancient chaos pigs, mutant rabbits... just something different.
Anybody got any ideas?

Have a look at Ohterworld miniatures, they have quite a few different types of fantasy (not your 'run of the mill' either), Cavalcade do some as well :)

Reaper's Bloodstone Gnomes have a certain nasty charm to them:

Thanks, chaps. Otherworld's pig faced orcs could be contenders. Surprised I missed them earlier ::)
Reaper's Bloodstone Gnomes are pretty cool too, really liking those, but they are a bit too small. Would prefer something a little beefier size-wise.
I know, I'm an awkward bugger to please :D

Or you can just trawl through the links posted in the Sources for cheap 28mm fantasy miniatures (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=27037.msg328204#msg328204) thread.
Otherworld hobgoblins, maybe? They're pretty cool.
Or go for some vintage Skaven - great models there!

Thanks, but already trawled through that thread earlier. Discovered some nice figures but as usual they are mainly orcs, goblins, dwarves etc... Still searching for something different. The Skaven idea could work but to be honest I spent about 2 years painting GW clanrats & don't think I could stand the sight of another Skaven model after that lol

For something completely different, you could do worse than cast a glance at Eureka miniatures' amphibians range (http://eurekamin.com.au/index.php?cPath=87_126_191&sort=3a&page=2). 28mm and, well, different!

Bederken Dwergs from King's Miniatures?

Some lovely stuff from Four A miniatures too -

Got some of the Sea Demons waiting to be painted still and the Death Cherubs are pretty cool too!

How about the Twilight range from Hasslefree?
No NOT bloody teen vampires! >:(

I've been tempted by the Twilight range before but unfortunately there's something about the feet that bugs me :? They are exactly along the lines of the sort of thing I'm after though.
So far, after hours of searching, it's looking like Otherworld will probably be getting my money. It's a toss up between the Bugbear Warriors, Pig Faced Orcs, Lesser Boglings or the diminutive Kobolds with maybe a Gnoll or two thrown in for good measure. They also raised a smirk or two when I noticed almost every figure has it's "gentleman's vegetables" on display lol
My only reservation with the Otherworld stuff is that there is a limited number of variations of each & don't think it would work mixing them together. Wish they did more of each :(
Thanks for the suggestions. Some nice figures out there that I hadn't seen before. Especially love the Bederken Dwergs but can only find one UK source for those & they sure 'aint cheap!
Any more suggestions always appreciated :)

How about Samurai Dwarves from Cavalcade (http://cavalcadewargames.com/cavalcade/Fantasy_Armies_of_the_Far_East_-_Dwarves.html)

Them's some nice dwarves but there's only six variations & I'd need about 15-20. It's the biggest stumbling block, found quite a few nice figures but there's only ever a limit number of versions. Serves me right for being so fussy I suppose ::)

Sea demons etc from FourA minis backed up by "deep ones" from Fenris games.
Loads of variation and some cracking sculpts t'boot!

I love those! It is a shame there are not more variants, but hopefully that will come with time.
Hmm, Bob Olley again. He da dwarf-man lol

What about Other world Gnolls? They look pretty cool. You could always compete the warband with some Reaper's (they're bulkier, I think and more hairy so elite warriors maybe).
Blood Moon's Bog Raiders can be an option if you feel nostalgic.
And then, for quite original races, you can take a look to Sphere Wars:

Thanks for all your suggestions, very much appreciated :)
After much consideration, and drooling over the many options suggested, I've decided to go porcine & ordered a batch of Otherworld's Pig-faced Orcs. There's a good selection of figures & they really appeal to me.
So, the next question is... anybody suggest any other pig based figures to bulk things out a bit? I know I've seen several great ones but buggered if I can remember where :?

Theres a minotaur with a Boar head out there too somewhere - might be otherworld too.

Qwacktica do some piggy goblins that I've been meaning to pick up for a while.
Privateer press do several porky figures that may be of use, I think they're 'Hordes' minis.

Sounds interesting but I can't seem to find them anywhere, or anything by Qwacktica for that matter. Do you have a link to some piccies of the piggy goblins?

is this problem solved, already?
I know that Rackham had got some Goblins, Japanes style, but they are pretty hard to come by with, nowadays, I think.

With the clanbox and all the other minis, it might make a total of 10 to 15 minis.
But then again, they are goblins all the same and You said, You do not wanted these anymore?
best wishes
