Title: African swords in 28mm
Post by: Fanis on June 17, 2011, 01:37:27 PM
Hello lads,
I am a sucker for Darkest Africa wargaming (really my favorite wargaming genre for a while now) and while doing some reading last night I found out that a number of African tribes utilized swords!

A bit of browsing on the Net provided some excellent and very interesting examples and I was wondering whether anyone has gone down this path before with regards to their own collections i.e. equipping some of their tribesmen with swords. I have about 30-40 Foundry tribesmen who I would love to equip with swords assuming anyone has found any such swords sold for 28mm figures.

Mind you the variety of sword types I saw online means that I could probably use even more generic stuff. One site I found was this http://eriksedge.com/category.php?catid=0148e11109f015a&category_name=African%20Swords though I obviously can't vouch for the historical accuracy of the depicted weapons. Assuming they are accurate then you have swords similar to Bronze age daggers and swords, asian swords and even plain old sickles!! Though my favorite one has to be the one advertised as the Mongo sword.

Anyways enough rambling from me. I would very much appreciate any tips for suitable swords sold in 28mm for this purpose.

Cheers!

...Oh, and for most Africans you can use Medieval broadswords for N. African tribes. Depending on the size of your figs, you could use swords from a variety of manufacturers, like Irregular Miniatures.

Many thanks for the assist mate.

I am really looking forward to this Perry release. I have a couple of boxes of their plastic WOTR stuff and they are tops! I hope they have a couple of swords unattached to arms and such.

I also looked at the Assault Group website and though they have a variety of weapons their longswords and broadswords as well as their scimitars which might have been of use are not really suitable.

The closest I found was some swords from Crocodile games but that's 1 dollar per sword which is just plain funny! lol
