Title: Polar Adventurers
Post by: numbat on June 20, 2011, 02:58:21 AM
I've been lurking for a while and I love collecting and painting Pulp miniatures - especially the Copplestone ones. Rob Jedi suggested I should post some here. I don't have a game system to use these with, they're just for fun right now.

So I recently finished Polar Adventurers from Copplestone:

This is a display base I made for them:

This is with my friend's borrowed Polar Bear (I was doing the base up for him):

There are some work and progress and tutorials in my blog if you are interested. For other polar stuff I have a Walrus and some sled teams to paint. It is a shame that Copplestone has discontinued a lot of his animal range now.

Edit: I almost forgot... here is the link where you can see some more of my painting: http://arrch.blogspot.com/search/label/pulp

These are great! You should add some of the Pulp Miniatures sculpts with them, they go great together!

Thanks for the comments - yes I would like to get some Pulp Miniatures to go with them, though with the postage overseas I want to make sure I put in a big enough order to make it worthwhile as I am in Australia, so I keep putting it off.

Right now I have 4 Germans carrying an Ark to finish. :)

Oooh.

Nice.

They'd be perfect for Tooth and Claw or Saurian Safari (ice age, of course)

Excellent PJs and great photo - what is your set up? My pics always let my PJs down  :'(

Thanks for the comments - sounds like I'd need to add some pre-historic creatures for Saurian Safari!

Dozing Dragon - For the photography setup, it's a sheet of blue gradient printed on a desktop colour printer. The figures were positioned on it and the photography was with a cheap Canon (non-DSLR) camera using the macro mode and flash turned off. The lighting was provided by my lamp which as a daylight globe in it. The trick is to get the lighting pointing towards the front of the models rather than directly overhead.

I did an auto-levels correction and cropped the photos afterwards on my computer after importing them.

They look good. Maybe they're searching the Himilaya's for an ancient artifact of great power.

Good start, Numbat!

And eight packs from Pulp figures will yield in free postage, world wide (and a free pack) :)

It's a bit shit that Copplestone made the only half decent polar bear around and now they do not any more.

Beautiful brush-work there!  Would do very nicely for a At the Mountains of Madness type game.  Consider your blog bookmarked!

Um... Polar bears in the Antarctic...? ;)

That was our first hint that there was something uncanny going on.

Thanks everyone.

@Blackwolf1666 Yes I am from the antipodes. :)

@Silverslxx Thanks for the tip - I'll have to go find at least 8 packs then. Shame Dr. Koo is out of production at the moment!

@Hammers I also have the Copplestone Penguins, so I guess they could work in the Antarctic. I guess the Polar Bear will have to just stay put with the Walrus miniature I got if I was to do a At the Mountains of Madness type game! On a related note, I really should try and get miniatures to replace the cardboard cutouts for Arkham Horror. I've heard the plastic minis from Mansions of Madness paint up quite well.

this is quite an inspirational thread:  https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235052025-at-the-mountains-of-madness/&tab=comments#comment-3302240

I also believe there is a build thread which preceded it. you may have to join to see the pictures, but it's a great forum with wonderful craftsmanship.
