I’m looking for a tugboat in an appropriate scale (28mm). Any ideas?

Looks not bad, though I need it more modern.

making games, making photos ;)

Working on one of the HLBS-Tugboat right now for my Innsmouth project. It´s a beautiful boat but it is a bit cramped. Based miniatures will only fit in the bow and on the roof. Bought two of them. The one I bought last year was a perfect cast. But the second tug that I bought last week had some defects, and a lot of bubbles. It looked, and smelled like, HLBS changed their resin mix. I'll post a picture of my tug later in the week.

Worldworksgames has a papermodel one :

thanks, but no paper for me.

Walthers do a 1/72nd scale one but it is 1900's North America and may be a wooden kit.
LACKAWANNA make a 1/48th scale but it is pricey.
Herb Gundt (HGWalls) used one in an ACW game sme years back that he had converted from a plastic kit. I hope to see him at Historicon next week and will ask him as I was also trying to find one that would not break the bank account.

pricey isn't problem this time, I need just one tugboat. Any link?

thanks, Mark! that could be my choice if I wont' find more modern and more detailed one.
-
Here's a link for a build of the LACKAWANA one. Looks mighty fine. 1/8 scale.

IIRC, the Herb Gundt tugboat was based on this Lindbergh kit:

1/82nd scale, so maybe a bit on the small side, and it might be tricky to find. I don't know if it is too old-fashioned for your taste, but given that some vessels like those were used for decades, I think it could work, especially if one updates some of the details such as radar, maybe a GPS receiver, or a more modern pilot house. Note, however, that the hull is a single piece and would require cutting down to produce a waterline version.
-
sometimes some "normal" modeller's hobby-stores do have these "ready-to-go" RCF radio-control models ... to be more precise - the hulls for them, they are often a bit detailed and a bit painted ... but with all the necessary desgin. Maybe there are some useful amoung them.
Like "Graupner" and such ...
best wishes

PS
in Stuttgart there is the "Bastlerzentrale" ... a good first start to look!
-
Graupner? well, that one is nice..
http://www.graupner.de/de/products/02fea07f-6862-49f6-ba74-4ef1aed40441/2087/product.aspx
and only 577 EUR... :o

Spooky, I to am looking for a tug boat! It's like we share one brain between us!
The HLBS one (early 20th century, perfect!) looks like it could be fairly easily scratch built to. The deck of the resin vessel looks a bit small for my purposes.

I was going to say...

If you are unhappy with one of the models I will buy it from you. Name the price.

Westfalia Chris identified the one that Herb used, I think he may have converted it a bit.

The Linberg Tug model is C$45.00 plus tax here in Canada :o
-
I have the hull from a Theodore Tugboat. It is about 12" long and is quite nicely scaled. It can be fairly neatly dissembled by some screws. Here is an ebay link to a random one:

a real snip, I'll say! ^^
But I bet this one is a model with the RC thingy thangy included. Not to mention all sorts of workable gadgetry.
What I meant is something like this - in Your a little bit more advanced:
http://www.graupner.de/de/products/2120.2/product.aspx
search criteria "schiffsrumpf" (hull)
http://www.graupner.de/de/service/suche.aspx?usterms=schiffsrumpf
and "only" 20 buck then. This one in sold out, but it is "just" the hull, maybe there are some others with a a little more supersructure.
best wishes
Drachenklinge
PS
i think i will get there in July anyway ... maybe i could ask them - is there some sort of dead-line?
-
No deadline but a hull isn’t an option, no time at all for that sort of scratch building. I need a proper ship, more or less ready to paint.
-
here is something but dosnt stand what it is :(

What a waste of a good tugboat... :(

These tugs are not very difficult to find on ebay. They are very toy-like which will give you the opportunity to fiddle and make them into a decent tug. Plus ... it really swims. Ok .. might be a little over the top for a tabletop game but if you can get one real cheap you could convert it into a waterline model.

:? Doh, should have read about the "no time to fiddle" response ... my bad. Sorry! :-X

Looks like the Happy Hunter to me ...
Which in my humble opinion could make a gaming table by itself. At 1/50 it is 100 cm long and 23 cm wide. :D

well..like it a lot...is it approximately 1/50?
-
It is supposed to be 1/48. I made some photos with some miniatures.

The big mini is a terminator from WH40k, the grey one is an Imperial Guardsman, also WH40k, while the two silver colored ones are Celtos Barbarian chicks from I-Kore.
Hope this helps.

It's a little small but Revell make a modern(ish) tug. Could be the basis for a conversion.
http://www.revell.de/index.php?id=210&KGKANR=0&KGKOGP=10&KGSCHL=44&L=0&page=1&sort=0&nc=&searchactive=&q=&SWO=&ARMAS4=&PHPSESSID=c0ad0d3fb8a2346a3417854a18fd4f45&KZSLPG=&offset=5&cmd=show&ARARTN=05207&sp=1
They also make an Exploration vessel, the hull of which might be suitable for a conversion.
I've seen plenty of cheap wooden tug boat models in various gift shops. Might be worth looking at.

A 1/50 I've been looking at lately:

and this just may be the mother lode

Found a tugboat yet Prof.?

not yet, wanted to buy that damaged one, but unfortunately missed the end of auction. And the last weeks were too busy. But it's on the top of my to-do-list.
