Title: Coin Laundry Completed 17 Aug 11
Post by: snitcythedog on July 02, 2011, 10:45:02 PM
Here is my WIP Coin Laundry.  Just finished filling all the gaps so I can start painting soon.  Just need a power box for the back wall, bulletin board and the sign for the building.  Any other suggestions?

I had to make masters and cast the washers and dryers, AC unit, coke machine, windows, and the light switches.

Couple more photos on my blog.
Hope you like.

Great work.
Love all the interior parts.
Will you be selling them?
I bet there are plenty out there who would buy them.
What is it missing?
Dot Cotton smoking a fag! (UK members should get that, but probably no-one else!)

I was just thinking about Dot... it needs a little room at the back with a kettle...

looks great though... the casting looks good... can't think of any washing machines on the market - Black Cat? but that may be all tentacley...

Got the East Enders reference.  Lived in the UK for four years.

Snitchy, I am impressed. ;)
Was not expecting that one from a guy across the pond!
Cant think of anyone doing 'normal' washing machines either.
Could be worth a punt...

Strange, only your tumble dryers have a front door.
I'm guessing where you live the washing machines are top loaders ?

I only ask because here they are all front loaders.

They still sell the top loaders here.  They are cheap and hard on the clothing.  Just what you put in a coin op.

Sorry I did not answer that one.  The mold is not all that great.  I think I had something organic in the silicone because the first cast in resin adhered to the mold. When I demolded the first time it ripped a little detail.  It is easy enough to clean up, but not a defect that I would sell.  Had the same problem with the other two molds I made at the same time.  Both glued to the resin on the first go, and are complete write offs.  I am thankful that this one still works.
Thanks for the compliments.

That's great.  So much detail in a little building.  Is that even a light switch by the back door?  Machines are awesome.  Just need a couple chairs while you wait for clothes to finish and a super outdated arcade game to keep the kid entertained.  Make sure to have something oozing out from one of the machines from the nasty suprise inside.

all the UK Laundrettes I've used have been top loaders... and last trip was last year when our machine broke...

What a great idea. Please let us know if you decide to make pieces for sale.

Here's my only exposure to English laundromats, I mean "laundrettes", via The Young Ones.

It's interesting how times have changed.  Way back in the Jurassic period of wargaming, most folks would have been content if they could get a hill and a couple of houses on their battlefield.  Now look at things.  A coin-op wouldn't even have registered on the game radar back then, let alone entire modern or medieval urban settings, spaceports, underground caverns, sewer systems, castles, etc.

I was there.  Different colors of felt and painted blocks of wood as far as the eye can see.

I guess I will look at re-working the molds if there is this much interest.
Thanks for the compliments all.

I am re-working the masters now.  I have also been approached by a company that wants to license them.  Apparently I am the only one who is making 28mm washers and dryers.  Snitchythedog miniature appliance salesman.

Great job. Reminds me of some of those dingy laundromats we used to use when wife and I were newlyweds.

Just EXTRAORDINARY!

Your level of detail is only topped by your paint job.

And I'm not surprised to know that a company asked you fro your machines, they're SUPERB!

If you plan to sell some, please let us know.

Anyhow, a job VERY WELL DONE!

Thanks for sharing.

Just EXTRAORDINARY!
The idea behind this project is to be able to host games at conventions.  I got tired of the competitive war- game circuit.  After thirty years of war-gaming I do not suffer rules lawyers anymore.  This should be a fun game that anyone can play.
Really great work 8)
Thanks.

That is where I got most of my inspiration.

I am re-working the masters right now.  I have the washer and the air conditioning unit done.  Still have start the coke machine and the dryer .  I will let everyone know when they are complete.
Thanks again all for the compliments.
