Along with a few other VBCW devotees I'll be running a Big Demo Game for the Siege of Canterbury at Legion on the last Sunday of October down at the Pfizer Social Club in Sandwich, Kent.
It's early days, and I've a move underway, but I thought I'd start a thread to show how it's going but also as a record of my first show game. I hope you'll find it interesting.
Firstly I had to work out which part of Canterbury might come under attack, and I believe it'd be down the Whitstable Road/St Dunstans Street. Now modelling the whole of the city isn't feasible, so I'll concentrate on the edge which is being attacked, which in this scenario has neither city wall nor roads.
Of course today it looks like this;
But in 1938 it looked more like this;
And I've marked the area which the table will represent, the most vital focal point of which is the Westgate.

It'll be interesting to see if the BUF forces attack this old fortification or stick to flanking across fields despite having to ford a few streams.
I'll be modelling the Westgate, primarily from a pair of Pringle tubes. I'll also model one relatively modern building for casting in number to make up the streets, as well as a half timbered one for the older buildings around.
I've started collecting a few pieces with this game in mind, although obviously they'll also be useful for regular gaming.
Firstly this delightful old Britains tree.
Then this china building, which just needs a little work from a bootfair for a quid.
And another china building for the same price
(http://6milphil.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/dsc00885.jpg)
I'll update this thread as and when, although expect more activity as the date approaches.

Very exciting stuff, looking forwards to seeing more (and glad the blogging is back, cheers).
-
Cool. I lived in Canters for ages. I'll be interesting how you model this. Cant wait to see it.

Database error?

Been offline for a while but not taken it easy as this big game is plenty of work...
Started work on a humble Canterbury terrace, which is to be cast...
Picked up a couple of interesting looking cannon.
A rather nice but simple church for the Catholic church near the Westgate from Hovels.

The towers for the Westgate
(http://6milphil.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/dsc00935.jpg)
Sweet little halftimber houses from Hovels.
Plus various wall sections from Hovels again
(http://6milphil.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/dsc00937.jpg)
-
Adding up to a neat box o'bits for the whole damn thing
(http://6milphil.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/dsc00938.jpg)
But them some time has passed so some of that has advanced slightly...
The Hovels' Church has painted up wonderfully... a great little jaunt with the brush.
A little peek into my scraps metal tin meant a barricade burst into existence
(http://6milphil.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/dsc01116.jpg)

A light tank bridging unit
(http://6milphil.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/dsc01117.jpg)
Some serendipity here... Fascist Child Killer Tony has been working on the river sections and quite seperately I have on the bridger and they fit like hand in glove... the gods smile down on us.
After much heartache the canterbury terrace which you saw at the top of the post in an embryonic state is now finished and being cast...
And then they can be joined to make this just started terrace...
Very much a work in progress, the BUF siege tower based on a light tank with added stabiliser wheels...

Absolutely fantastic! Love that fascist figure next to the tower.

This is looking like it'll be a fun game! Watching with anticipation... :)
-
Looking good - shame it's a bitt too far across the country to see this in the flesh.
-
'Tis a shame the model I built of Kings School and grounds in Canterbury a few years back was 1/100....castings of some of that would've suited this project for you nicely.
Looking forwards to seeing this on the day 8)

Should you cahnge your mind let us know and we'll squeeze thee in as a player. The free entry saving you a whopping £2.50 should cover your travel... well at '39 prices.
-
Absolutely the last few figures we'll paint for this get an undercoat...
And the British Union of Taxi Drivers Day Trip Force takes shape...

Tower gets crewed...
and armoured
(http://6milphil.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/dsc01148.jpg)
and the bridger gets a driver

I got very excited by our FAF force and posted another thread but they look like this:
A worse collection of vicious thugs you couldn't invent.
Also made a start on the walls...
and the corners...
and the Westgate Towers, although not much towering at the mo'
Did I mention the river sections? I know you're all dying to see unpainted resin rivers wot we made and cast from. Aren't you?
::)
-
Yep we are!
-
Strangely enough Phil,I'm running a VBCW in October too,Muttonchop minis at the fore (the Thames Valley Defence Force); will post it up....... ;)
-
Yep we are!
You're such a bad influence...
The china lumps from a boot fair for a quid each have scrubbed up nicely

Absolutely Bonkers!!
Well played Sir
-
This game is just over a week away and it's been rabid activity at 6mil towers so much so there's little chance to take photos of things progressing - hoping to get some updates up in the next couple of days.
