Just when you thought they'd left town as well, they do look nice.

Looks very interesting. Seems a fair price at £20. I can see me ordering a copy before the evenings out, and as a result adding yet another project to my ever growing list of periods I want to wargame!

Rules for the naumachiae - gladiatoral sea battles!

I'd like to see that in 28mm ... Now there's an idea  :D

Not my cup of tea by any means but WH do have nice publications (if the rules are sometimes a bit whack).

cheers

James

I'm curious if any retailers will stock it, or if GW will keep it to themselves on their web site?

My thoughts exactly - I'd prefer to deal with Maelstrom.

This looks to be some nice eye candy, but surely the LoTR or LoTOW standard rules wouldn't really suit gladiatorial combat.

Unfortunately I still want it.  :(

I'm a sucker for gladiatorial rules so I'll probably end up buying them.
Wonder if they are somewhat historically correct. The few illustrations I saw don't bode well though.

Well I've placed an order for a copy. Will it be a replacement for my current set of rules (Morituri Te Salutant)?....maybe not. It will be a nice bit of eye candy, and I should think an interesting read though.

They also seem to have brought out some Napoleonic rules.

I sold my Foundry Gladiators collection to a LAFer earlier this year. Seeing this thread and looking at the pictures on the Warhammer Historical website has fueled my enthusiasm to resurrect the project. ::)

I have a box somewhere of 40mm Gladiators that I purchased at Salute some years ago. I think they were sold by Battle Honours (?) I might have to dig them out of the lead mountain.... :)

I fyou plan to do this at 28mm there are a couple of gladiators from crusade are more reasonable prices than foundry

Dealing in single models, I am thinking of using 54MM, a nice change from the norm I hope.

The Crusader figures are very nice and if I was further tempted I would buy these over the Foundry ones. :)
But before I invest further in more lead, I will dig out the 40mm ones and take another look at them.

The majority of the Crusader gladiators are also a lot more historically correct than the Foundry ones.
Some of the helmets are a bit over-sized, and if you really, REALLY want to get them correct, you can always graft some Foundry heads on Crusader minis. Bit expensive though, but you only need an handful.
Said by the sad git that has more than 100 gladiators :?

Got my copy of Gladiator rules today , very attractive book as you would expect - hardbacked. The rules are based on LOTR and their 'Legends of ..' series , individual man to man combat is simple but can be used in a campaign system to track your gladiator or Lanista . Covers animals , chariot racing / combat and even ship to ship . I would say worth it and it has got me dusting off my old Foundry gladiator figures .

My order went through fine, maybe try giving them a phone call if your still getting problems.

Only took a couple of days to arrive. The book is very attractive, I've as yet only had a chance to glance over the rules, but from what I have read so far it does look promising.

I've just bought Blue Sky Red Sand from Two Hour Wargames after hearing good things about it (along with their chariot game) so it looks like Gladiators are on the agenda. I'd like to get this just for the pictures.

I'm working on this, the 8 hour time difference is a pain in the @$$  >:(

I have the first edition of Red Sand, Blue Sky, I have been looking at the new edition as well as the chariot racing, I,m curious how the new rules are changed?

I wasn't even aware that they were working on any new rules. Now it appears that they have released 2 new sets. Hopefully I will be able to get them from my local store as my credit card companies really don't like me any more.  :o
I enjoy the Warhammer Historical rules. Even if they aren't historical accurate. It makes for a fun game. After all isn't having fun the reason why we do play.

The final page in the Gladiators book, mentions that there are many other Warhammer Historical books and supplements avaliable, beneath this text the front covers of five such books/supplements are shown, one of which, is the cover for the 'Great War' supplement 'Over the Top' which is yet to be released.
The fact that an image of the cover for this supplement is shown, suggests to me that it is next in line to be released, and its release should be very soon now! I hope I'm right, I'm sure I'm not the only person who has been waiting for what feels like a lifetime for it!

Well, despite the forces of chaos and GW's blundering...I managed to procure a copy of this fine tome! :D

I must say, it is an impressive book and a good read so far.

Mine arrived Monday. It's a beautiful book.
Lots of nice pictures interspaced with some rules I don't intend to use and some very useful historical background.
Well worth the money.
