Hi Folks,
Just signed up on the advice of a colleague at the local wargames club.
(Nap Naval, Ancients, WW2 aerial so far, but I digress...)
When i'm not wargaming, I'm RPGing.
(Apologies if you've already read this on TMP)
I'd like to source a fantasy roman legionaire or centurian for a D&D Living Arcanis PC. Reaper don't seem offer, and Foundry are way too expensive.
I've got a bid in on an ebay for a Warhammer Fantasy - DOGS OF WAR Lorenzo Lupo, but always like a contingency.
I'm not a regular miniatures buyer, so not au fait with what's out there in the UK. Any ideas from the Lead Adventure collective?!
Cheers,
Wilf

Hey man welcome to the forums. For Romans you might try:
Black Tree Design

Or
Old Glory

I don't personally collect Romans so I can't point you to a specific miniature.

Speaking of which : I once saw roman undead legionaries. Does anyone remeber which company makes them?

Zvezda, a Russian co.

Oh, so they are 1/72 scale?

Oh, so they are 1/72 scale?
No - 28mm as far as I know - Zvezda had a fantasy game in this range, Ring of something or other - ah yes, Ring of Rule. They're about the same size as GW skellies, with more parts it seems.

Do you know if they are in "bendy" plastic or styrene?

Not having messed around with them, it starts to get tough here - but I think it's PS; or at least close to GW consistency.
Ah, I was right:
look out for item 5 way down the page:

Oh - and welcome Wilf :)

Hard plastic, by thelook of things.
I found this linkand review:

Not bad at all.

It´s hard plastic - I once bought a box of their siege equipment. Excellent sculpting and casting quality, but why they had to cast legs and feet separately, in addition to torso, arms and head, is beyond me. A good plastic, though, and should be easily assembled using tiny amounts of CA glue (mine are still in the sprue since I only wanted those siege pieces for my "real world" romans).
I´d recommend them, provided they are not too expensive. Anything below GW price is fair deal, imho.
They are a bit smallish, though - definitely 28mm, but with a certain "25 look".
-
Oh, they appear to be OoP according to this seller:
http://www.magictoybox-online.co.uk/acatalog/Zvezda.html
as are the rest of their 28mm Fantasy range.
Bummer, they had some good-looking figures in that range
I was visualising a scenario involving my Victorian adventurers encountering undead Legionnaries. Oh well.
If anyone knows of any still for sale.........
cheers,
Ian.

There are others if you google.

Hmm, I did google, but only found this one. Must brush up on my googling skills.
Thanks, I'll try another search :)

Did you get this one GM:

It's down at the bottom.
By the way - a little way below the Cursed Legion - ooh, Greek triremes 1/72 scale....

Ah, thanks for that! Shame there are no Legionnaries, but they do have the cavalry & artillery, which is agood start :)
The Dragons & Trolls are also on my list!
cheers,
Ian

No, that's me being braindead
As a famous fat, stupid, yellow guy might say - D'oh!
Thanks for pointing that out :)
