Neck detailing...

-
It is certainly looking impressive.
The only thing that is bothering me is the colour :-I I know why you have chosen that colour keeping with the train colours of the period etc. but I don't know..I kinda would prefer...a different colour ???
Still great work though!! :D
Cheers
Fuzzy.
-
The colours were chosen to pay homage to the River Don Engine, now housed at Kelham Island Museum, Sheffield, South Yorkshire (where I grew up)
This was a 12000 HP steam engine used for rolling armour plate - appropriate to VSF, I think.
Obviously, I could have chosen any number of other colour schemes, but this felt absolutely, characteristically Victorian.
It didn't have legs, though...
-
I love the colour myself. Very victorian in feel. Great stuff.
-
perfect.
-
My impression was the shade was perfect, but perhaps a bit light. You must forgive as, even in the image of the engine above, it's mostly in shadow, and the impression is of much darker. Now, the fact that it made perfect sense for a locomotive engine may mean that Fuzzy's hesitation towards it on a British military vehicle is quite understandable. ;->=
All of the above does not withstand the awesomeness of the project, the delight in the unusual look of form and color, the sheer terror afforded to any opponent's forces.
See? I quite go on when the first shock, AFTER A FEW WEEKS, wears off from each update. You MUST heap on more awesomeness to quell my verbal meanderings! lol

This is at a timne when the average british squadie was dressed in bright red- cammo wasn't all the rage.
-
Perhaps I should just hurry up and finish this one so I can build a grey one? Or blue?
Any preferences?
I know! I could do every rivet a different colour! Psychedelic, dude!
Or, not...
-
I certainly expected it to be painted like a steam train rather than camo but It must be the shade of green that is bothering me or the lighting in the photo has bleached out the colour.
Anyway it is an impressive build nonetheless and I look forward to its completion.
cheers
Fuzzy.

That's the way! I barely make comment. lol
Rivet Count: 2,337!
Yes, yes, we know. Certifiable. Cackle any louder, and you'll find your work hampered by a coat with wrap around sleeves...

Started attaching/completing the first leg! A momentous occasion!

This is getting really exciting now that I can envision the final product. Really nice!
-
Thank you, gentlemen!
I've just been assessing how much more needs to be done - you know, all the little bits one tends to forget about that make all the difference...
I admit, I'll be rather glad when this is over! After all, I've been looking forward to starting something big!
-
Wow – It's been ages since I was on here! Been kinda busy with other stuff….
Anyway, Gargantua is back on the table and looking pretty good, if I say so myself…

Now that is beyond modelling and approaching art! :-*
-
Why thank you, Sir!
Still a lot to do but I'm pretty chuffed!
-
:o
It's quite literally awe-inspiring! I'd missed the last update around September, for I hadn't seen it with a leg on - this really is marvellous.
Can we all come to New Zealand to gaze at your lovely toy please?
-
I also missed the mid-September update, to my shame.
You realize, though, this will do nothing to negate the general impression you are certifiable, right?
Doug
-
Quite a monster! :o
Very impressive! :-*
-
I have been anxiously awaiting an update to this project. You certainly don't disappoint. Wonderful work as always. Your efforts are in the same league as the LAF greats.
-
Red Orc - Of course you're welcome over here any time! Don't forget the duty-free, old boy!
Beast - ???? Me??? Certifiable???? They give certificates for this stuff now? Wonderful! Maybe I can pin it up with my 25 metres doggy-paddle silver medal!
Ray - Thanks! I try...
Doomsdave - Sorry to have kept you waiting so long... I'm flattered to receive such high praise.
More to come, chaps. I'm spending a night on the pistons tonight...
-
Posted new pics of components and comparison shots on my blog tonight…

What a beauty :-* :-* :-*
LB
-
Stunning machine! :-*
-
Why thank you, Gentlemen. I'm glad you like it!
-
Very nice! You have been working on this model for a while and it shows. :-*
-
Quite so, Aggro - it has taken far too long to get this far. All was going swimmingly until life got in the way... Back on track now, though!
-
Real life can really get in the way of miniature painting and gaming.
I hate you real life. >:( lol
-
It certainly can! Wait a minute... Do they have real life in California...?
;)
-
Thought you guys might like a close look at my rear entrance tonight...

Rivet count is now up to 3,464!
-
Wow! High praise indeed, Bezzo - and gratefully accepted. There's a lot of talent out there in the world of wargaming and model making. It's a thrill to be in such good comany. Thanks!
-
Great work! Wonderful machine you got there!
-
It certainly can! Wait a minute... Do they have real life in California...?
;)
Hey now. That's enough of that talk.
Just because I've had 8 plastic surgeries and the most "off road" my Humvee has ever been was to Starbucks, doesn't mean I don't have a real life. lol
-
Plastic surgeries?! Awesome! Can I add some rivets? ;)
-
OK - I scratch-built the controls and Gatling guns today...

-
Ooooh. That looks great.
-
Thought you guys might like a close look at my rear entrance tonight...
Can you believe it? Everyone is so stunned by the project, no one 'jumped' on that wording... ::)
Rivet count is now up to 3,464!
Rivet Count: 3,552!
Not certifiable. Certified.

I like your smaller HMSW 'Pantagruel' as well - though I do feel some attachment, having suggested her name.

Probably the single most convincing VSF walker I have ever seen. Congratulations, sir.
-
Thank you, gentlemen.
I am pleased to announce that she is FINISHED!
I've just posted pics and stuff on my blog:

So glad this is over! Working on a few new projects already...
All the Best!
-
WOW!!Stunning attention to detail a true masterpiece :o :o :-* :-*
-
She's a big honking nightmare of hydraulics, tubing and rivets... :o
Well done! :-*
-
Thank you very much, gentlemen. I'm glad you're impressed!
Bezzo - another word which has been tremendously over-used is RIVETS. And MY FINGERTIPS.
Oh well. On with the next project. No rest for the wicked.
-
well done you mad bugger. But what was the final rivet count?
-
That is easily the most sophisticated VSW machine I can recall ever seeing (well, in terms of wargames models). That's a deep functional understanding of steam engine and machine forms and construction and the whole model is built around and with that knowledge.
-
Rob - Thanks!
Final rivet count was 3,630!
Fram - Thank you very much. All that 'Industrial Revolution' stuff at school was good for something, I guess!
-
Simply :-* :-* A work of art!
