So I thought I would start a thread displaying some of my ongoing work on painting up a joint Human and Dwarf Army...this will include many of WKs figures as well as the classic Marauder Dwarfs and GW Empire figures...many of which you saw in the Last LPL.
Anyway...here is my latest effort...a small group of Marauder Dwarf Handgunners that I painted up for the July contest over at Bugman's Brewery.

For WIP shots of this group see my blog...the link is down in my signature.
Watch this space for updates!

Blue,
These are right up there with your Chaos Stunties!
Unbelievable use of colour, you always manage to pull off the really bright schemes without it looking like a comic.
Amazing work, will be keeping an eye on this thread.

Wowee! Superb painting. I really like the harmony between the bright and drab colours. :-*
-
Yes, bright but muted... very effective. 8)

Lovely rich colours :-* :-* :-*
Great figures as well 8)

Excellent, excellent work. I've been looking at your blog and have to say that both your standard of painting and choice of subjects have really impressed me. I really look forward to watching your project grow over time.
-
EXCELLENT choice of colors...vibrant colors are the way to go with Renaissance garb. As always VERY WELL DONE!
-
:)
thanks all...these are really wonderful sculpts and a lot of fun to paint...now only 25 left to go!...sigh

I worked up a couple of members of the Marauder Empire Command set for the monthly painting contest over on Warhammer-Empire.
Here they are...the other 2 will be along shortly... ::)

Lurverly stuff - those colours really pop! 8)
Can't to see this army grow... :D
-
Those are excellent! :-*
I'm still missing the greatsword figure from that set unfortunately. :'(

Great work Blue, as always. I am really liking the addition of the white to your colour scheme. It has improved your minis 10 fold (if that was even possible).
Now I have to laugh at you....because....if wasn't for painting competions on the various forums, you visit, I am not sure you would paint anything.....ok....maybe that's not true, but it sounds funny (well at least in my head).
Keep up the great work Blue. I would really like to see a group shot of ALL your minis.
-
feast for the eyes! :)
great painting and very inspiring. Keep up the good work. I will be following this thread for sure
-
BEAUTIFULLY WELL DONE! I love the color scheme particularly the way the white turned out. The banner is TERRIFIC.
-
Like said by others previously, I really like your painting too, beautifull colors, great style.
-
;) thanks all! now I just need to find a unit for them to command. These Marauder Humans are just slightly smaller than the other 3rd-4th edition Citadel Empire troops. the ones that may work best are some spearmen...they are quite petite as well....damn...off to ebay I go!

Wow! :o Such rich colors! Well done.

Absolutely love them!

More :-* for those!

Amazing work!! :-*
-
Superb painting, Blue! What's your recipe for that vibrant red?
:-*
-
Lovely! :-*
nice work Blue!
-
;) Thanks all...they were fun to work up. I'm not 100% happy with the banner...I need to find a better material to do them on...this paper one has already flattened out almost completely... :'(

Hey Blue, have you tried to find a "stiffener/hardener" for the paper flag, something like hair spray, starch spray, wood glue or even clear resin. I think that that paper flags have their advantages, especially for those of us, who can not free-hand or can afford to make custom decals.

I use this stuff (the flat, non embossed bits). You can cut it with scissors and bend and fold in any shape and it will hold that shape until you bend it otherwise.

More great work, Blue!
Superb stuff. Your use of colour is amazing, so vibrant without seeming OTT.
Those are excellent! :-*
I'm still missing the greatsword figure from that set unfortunately. :'(
Join the gang.
That is one of the best figures from that range, and I have also been after it for a while.

You could try using the foil that is on wine bottles. The thicker stuff is pretty good and holds it shape well once varnish.

Awesome...thanks for the tips lads...that gives me a number of new options to explore....which is good because I have ALL the other banners in my army to paint.

Arise Thread....ARISE from the DEAD!!!
So finally time for an update to this long out of date thread. My painting desk has been covered with pieces getting ready for LPL and the Brush Slave League (CDO)...and though many of them are painted now I can't show them of until they have competed...so to fill the void I am happy to present a team of three dwarf slayers that I completed for the monthly painting contest over on Bugman's Brewery. This is a mix of ranges...one old Citadel slayer...one Marauder MM10 slayer...and one Marauder MM16 Slayer.
Here they are:

And here they are with my other completed slayers...some of which you may recognize from LPL5

Great looking unit!
-
That's a FINE LOOKING Band of short, blood thirsty psychopaths. Love the mix of minis, your stunning brushwork, & choice of colors. VERY WELL DONE!
-
SUPERB!!!!
-
Those dwarfs are ace!
Really like that you did not go for a bright red/orange, but more natural haircolour (as far is it is natural ;))
-
Superb work, Blue! :-* Different shades of red hair looks fantastic.
I'm not 100% happy with the banner...I need to find a better material to do them on...this paper one has already flattened out almost completely... :'(
Have you tried varnishing them? If I make a paper banner, once it's bent and glued into position I give it a coat of gloss varnish (maybe slightly thinned) and then matt coat on top, just like with the rest of the miniature. I don't think any have straightened out yet.
-
Late to this thread....Nice work Blue :-* :-* :-*
-
Excellent work, Blue - lovely addition to the fantastic LPL5 - and with this speed you'll have a playable force in 2020 - lol

Slow but what a quality! :-*
Keep going this standard mate!

Just caught up on the whole thread, really nice looking dwarves and empire there, super colour.
That old marauder comand group is so nice yet few of the marauder fighters fit with it. AHQ henchmen are relativley cheap and may serve with a little green stuff slash and sash added?

This is too true...they are just a bit smaller than most of the GW stuff from the same time period as well. That said I have found that they fit with the 3rd/4th edition Empire Tillean Xbows pretty well...so I'll be using that command group with them.
Thanks for the kind words all!
