Title: 28mm Basic Impetus Fantastikus
Post by: HereWego on August 06, 2011, 04:21:45 PM
Hi Folks,

i started playing tabletop with a Bretonnian army during the 6th. edition. After a lot of games i became bored of the simple tacticle style of this army and i sold the main part of this army. But i could not sell my beloved painted miniatures of this army and so the army got dusty in my glass cabinet.

Some months ago i found a very nice chance of use of my miniatures basing them for IMPETUS FANTASY. Its a system which allows you to create your own army with special rules for every element. That was exactly what i needed for my Bretonnians. Additionally the base size is very huge giving you the opportunity for creating some dioramas  :D

But enough slipslop. Here are the pics. First an overview what painted figs i have

and the first nearly finished elements:

Love the horse without a rider and the witch is just pure classic fantasy - very inspirational. I will be looking  :o into Basic Impetus Fantastikus... However does one necessarily have to re-base?  :( Perhaps more importantly what are some of the pros and cons to these rules?

Fantastic work. I love how every base is full of action. Splendid brush work keep it up!

Thanks for kind comments  :)

@ Golgotha

the horse will get a rider soon  :D

If your opponent agrees your current bases sizes and has the same then the system should work. Otherwise put your minis without glue&basind on the bigger base.

Pros:
- you can create your own army
- special abilities can give your elements their own character
- diorama looking bases
- the system works fine
- exhaustion makes battles a bit more realistic

Cons:
- one more system  :D

I play the historical system and haven't rebased anything, just used sabot bases of the right size and placed my figures on top

Nice characters. I love the witch. Something different than the standard Fay Enchantress.

I've looked at it several times and came to the same conclusion - sabot bases were the way forwards.

Not a big step but a small update  :D

For a month or two i had the idea that plastic toy figures for kids could be a nice add-on for 28mm tabletop. I took a look at the bay and bought this one:

My giant!! I love his facial expression - small brain in a big body but when he strikes there will be nothing more than dust left over  Originally its a kids toy for Lord of the Rings with movable arms, legs and head. I glued everything in this position and will have to paint him in fleshy tones. This model will be the eye catcher of my army :P . I will have to fill the gapes and will add some gimmicks like a dead cow on his belt. Does anyone know a good cow modell for this? .. And maybe his will get a pulled out tree in one of his hands.

I added a second pic for scale comparison on my blog:

Looks great!

I too love to look at toys for wargaming potential.

I think Warlord Games do some dead cows.

Way better than the GW giant! He will be a great addition to your army!

GW have a dead cow on the giant sprue- you might be able to get one for a swop, or on ebay. You could try companies like Bitz Box too. I would try one of the GW friendly forums like Warseer.

Great giant - toys really are a useful source sometimes - can't wait to see this lumbering oaf painted - you will need to green stuff, or some such, the joints between his parts - like wrists and arms too methinks...
