Title: Aliens versus hillbillies
Post by: watchtower78 on August 20, 2011, 09:50:21 PM
Wrote up a quick game today that takes about an hour to play. It's Hillbillies and Aliens although the game is so simple it would work with just about anyone and Aliens. I'll put it together and put a nice cover on it and put it up as a couple dollar download on Wargamevault. I think small cheap games might be a nice way to get some of these ideas out there that I've had. Special thanks to Dan Van Horn and Rick Weaver for some of the ideas and of course Aliens, Farmers, Hillbillies and cows everywhere...

I like to look of the game. I find that I am moving more towards smaller sized games. They can be lots of fun.
Thanks for sharing.

Are the hillbillies from Blue Moon?

Where are the Grays from?

Looks like a great game, pity there are no more close ups. I think the grays are from Tengu models and are currently sold painted in the bazar.

Rules nearing completion. Stayed up late last night. I laughed nearly the entire time I wrote this. Here's a sneak peek.

I'm using the aliens from Zombiesmith. They are so cute. I'm thinking about painting them in Star Trek uniform colors, gold for command, blue for sciences, red for security, etc..

MBA has some nice stuff, but a bit pricey. I use O scale kits for most of my buildings, I have these two kits on the table now.

WOW! I am so glad to see such great responses to the game! I think I'll have to expand and do some other pulp related stuff as well. This is exactly the kind of terrain we used!

I am so over the big army games, they look impressive on the table top, but it's just too much work and not enough pay off for me.
I LOVE small scale skirmish games, less figures to build and paint means I will actually get them on the table and play a game!

I look forward to this game and any additions you may come up with, PULP is the new 40K!  ;D

This is just perfect for my aliens-probing-the-backwater-farm plan. Had to order them.  ;D

Small farm with a lot of cornfield around it, and behind a small hill at a small pond, a shack with a still and some hillbillies...  lol

The Tengu greys are nice, I will probably pick some up at some point, however I felt the ones from Zombie smith had more "character" to them.

I did the same with some 'greys' from Brigade Games  lol Not the entire suit, which is silvery, but all the details, such as belts, cuffs, collars. Am currently collecting/acquiring the materials I need for a game set-up similar to this project, so I just might get me this ruleset, too  ;)

Anyone knows where to find die-cast old pick-up trucks suitable for those backwater farmers?

After my first quick read-through I think I have a few questions, but I have to take notes during the next one.

One thing I DO remember is: Last scenario says that the Hillbillies win if they can hide for long enough... how long is that?? It may have eluded me, but I don't think the scenario has a set length?

As this is version 1.0, of course there will be stuff to dsicuss, but hey, Warhammer is on... what, 7th Ed.?... and GW had to do massive errata within a week after release.

And this is meant to be lighthearted fun, not strict tournament rules...  :)

Post by: watchtower78 on September 28, 2011, 01:54:02 PM
Seven turns is generally what we did for scenarios. I must have omitted that by mistake. Thank you for pointing it out.

Post by: Argonor on September 29, 2011, 08:01:17 AM
OK, seven turns. Easy to remember (Lucky 7)  :)  It may be in there, somewhere, I can have missed it, because I did not pay attention the first time around - just did a quick read on the commuter train (I get a lot of strange looks from my fellow commuters, whenever I pull out a ruleset and start reading  lol).

I am embarking on a MASSIVE zombie project (picked up parcel from a joint order at my club yesterday) as of today, so some time will pass before I start getting my hut, still, barn, saucer, cornfields, aliens, hillbillies etc. ready, but I already started painting/collecting stuff for a similar project a couple of years ago, and apart from needing some more hillbillies, this game will cost me next to nothing to dive into.

I may, however, paint the occational other figure in between the zombies - one can only stand so much putrid flesh in a row...  :)

Do tell?

Not really the right place, and you'll diz me  ;) , but I just got 120 WF plastic zeds for a joint Dead Walk Again project at my club; 30 of them I'm going to trim, assemble, base and prime for a fellow club-member to speed-paint for me - he'll then get one box (30) for himself when mine are done, and another box when he has done the first 30 for himself.

In the meantime I'll do the last 30 for myself, so we'll have 120 painted zeds + about 20 metal ones I have already, plus what the other 3-4 participants have painted in the meantime (about 25 per person, my guess).

I had to act quickly to spread the infection, as soon as I had bitten a couple of guys and a gal, and I got the chance to get in on a joint order from Wayland Games, so here we are...  :)
