Maximillian Adventure , commencing with the Egyptian Battallion........scuplting
is underway for these ( ian Mountain), the Major for the battalion is virtually done,
the rest of the unit to follow shortly. the size of the range will depend on the inital
response i get..........so any suggestions/comments welcome.............will possibly
to the French Foreign legion next..........!! cant resist really!! :)

Sounds interesting but please try to complement the existing (newer) Foundry range. Especially civilians and irregulars would be welcome
-
Ahem Ged, There are interests in this period from the opposite gender I've you know. Anyway, what you are facilitating for this period is great. I hope it get loads of support. Having the original Military Modelling article on the Legion at Camerone it brings back memories of making a vignette for this period.
Well done Ged on embarking into this excellent Mexican Adventure.
Bring on "Two Mules for Sister Sarah."
Cheers,
Helen

Traveller
good suggestions, i will of course do irregulars as these are some of the most
interesting "units" and civilians will be needed. my understanding is the foundry
range has been mothballed so to speak and this will be a completly new take
on the period.
Helen
many thanks for the support............Cameron et all is a mouthwatering part of
the range and i hope to do this memorable event justice

And of course the Boot Hill Miniatures Mexican Vaqueros are perfect for Mexican irregulars of the period (as the clothing changed very little between the 1820's -1860's) and will I am sure compliment Geds figures. :D
Its great to see such a resurgence of interest in all things Mehico! Arriba, Arriba!!
-
;D You teasing little minx, cant wait to see some pictures. 8)

Look forward to seeing them.
I am beginning to think Chris lives in Las Iguanas ;D
-
Good news here.I just started painting some Foundry for VSF.Foundry hasn't mothballed the Mexicans or the FFL at Camerone packs ,they are in the OLD West range not the Maximillian range(go figure)
I think the compatiblity issue is a good one.I would be more likely to get the Gringos range if they fit with my existing figures.
-
thanks Gents will look at the Foundry figures and of course Boot Hill figs will be
totally compatable ...........you cant get enough Mexicans!! viva mexico!!

I am certainly looking forward to these. I have always been interested in this period of Mexican history. I have quiet a number of the foundry figures, but really would like to build on them. Some new figures would be great.
-
Any chance Major Dundee and Captain Tyreen will appear in this range? :D
-
To add on the wish-list:
1. Civilians in all shape and form
2. Irregular infantry ( useful for 1700-1800s)
3. Irregular cavalry, especially lancers
4. Contra guerillas
5. Egyptians (it seems these are already on their way :)
6. Austrians (also useful for Italian war of independence)
7. Personalities, Colonel Dupin, Danjou, Maximillian, Charlotte, Diaz, Juarez
Whatever you will finally make, please let them have the grim campaign look that for some reason fits so well with all Mexican troops :)
-
Heres my wish list
FFL
French Regulars
Imperial Mexicans
Belgian Legion
Austrian Legion
last on my list would be civilians and irregulars ;)
-
Any chance Major Dundee and Captain Tyreen will appear in this range? :D

-

Bugsda
took all my willpower to resist........!!!
i wont resist to the FFL though , has (have) to be the finest looking units
in the Maximillian adventure aside from the Mexican imperial army with lancers
in all crimson unifroms with Sombreros!!

If they are anything like your 40mm Ged they will be fine figures. I'll try to send the much promised photo to you soon btw.
If/when the Legion happens can we have a mix of vestes and tuniqes, headgear etc?
-
Timg
hi there, thanks for the kind words, i will indeed make the figures as variable
as possible as the legion , including the mounted section wore the sombero
as well a the Kepi , and forage cap..............concentrating on the Egyptian battalion
first then onto the Legion............couldnt wait!!
best regards Ged www.gringo40s.com ;) :) o_o :)

Great to see you at Colours, Can't wait for these figures,
A few suggestions to be added to many of the above
Cantineries and other support and baggage elements
Contre-guerilla's
Chasseur d'Afrique
I will also add my vote for Major Dundee et al as this is the film that first sparked my interest in this period.
I am now reading "The Hand of Captain Danjou" by Colin Rickards, and have to read "Maximilian's Lieutenant" by Ernst Pitner and "With Maximilian in Mexico: a Lady's Experience of the French Adventure" by Sara Yorke Stevenson

ref Maximillian Range
just to let you guys know i will be sticking with the main troop types for
the Maximillian Adventure
and will NOT be doing the Hollywood side as its a bridge to far for me
with 40mm American-Mexican War...........28mm Maximillian War and
a new range for 2012................i hope thats ok. i dont want to get
ahead of myself
-
Good to hear gringo as I have been going thru the Foundry FFL figures I have (getting ready to prime them finally)
and have found a distinct lack of epaulettes on the figures :'(.
-
Fitter Pete, I don't have the exact reference to hand at the moment but the Legion used to remove the Epaulettes in the field. Though its over ten years since I made the range I recall having to remove them from the figures to give them a more campaign look which is what was being aimed for with the Camerone range. At the time the Maximilian range was still in production so had figures in full dress there.
Cheers.
Mike
-
Hey Mike,
Understood .They would work well for Camerone.Unfortunately I am using them for some Victorian fantasy so don't need historical accuracy lol
I need "cool factor".
I have both of the Foundry ranges so do have some in full dress but the Camerone figures have so much more character(and fit better sizewise with the rest of the figs I'm using.)

Personally I would prefer to see initial releases concentrate on a few core troop types from either side allowing skirmish games fairly quickly, so next would like to see Foreign Legion, Contre Guerillas, Juaristas, regular Mexican infantry, Rurales perhaps later adding some more specialised troops, characters etc.
At some point I would love to see some special pieces, such as baggage train elements that can be used to create scenarios. Attatched picture of Cantinieres that could be useful if you go down this route
