They're all great, but I particularly like this chap below. What miniature is it?
Whats next?
they all (incl. this one) are from GW Mordheim "Frenzied Mob" pack.
Maybe I should try painting more? :)
Shouldn't the town be Witchheim?
Maybe. But *heim has already been used by Mordheim and *burg by Bruegelburg. I wanted something else, so *town.
Apart from that it's a reference to my Old West project http://oldwest.witchhunter.net/
Any chance you could stand some of those up against 1980s citadel? The fat guy with the goatee in particular...
yes, I'm just painting an old Citadel mini, will post a pic next days.
Ah so they could match up? Are yopu basing the same way of bigger for the citadel?
Which mini
As you can guess I can't wait!
Thanks
Are those bases washers of coins?
Maybe. But *heim has already been used by Mordheim and *burg by Bruegelburg. I wanted something else, so *town.
Apart from that it's a reference to my Old West project http://oldwest.witchhunter.net/
I'm guessing they are cents too, or are they 2ps? :D
sticking it to a 5 cent coin.
I suppose dorf and stadt wouldn't fit with Witch either, it just didn't seem Germanic enough for the Old World....
Fantastic paint jobs, Prof!
Those are some of the best, if not THE best figures that GW currently produce.
You have done them justice.
That guy with the fish on his head cracks me up every time that I see him!
Awaiting the next wave with some serious anticipation..............
The horseman is from GW, Mordheim Marienburg Champion, the rest of the main gang is from Reaper. The citizens on the second pic are from our LAM Bruegelburg range with addition of some Mordheim Frenzied Mob figures.
btw, I'm currently rebasing some older Mordheim figures :)
This thread's miniatures are just AMAZING!
On a second thought, no, stop wasting time painting. Casting miniatures is what you should spend your time doing - like those Treasure Island ones - we REALLY need those ;D
Are they for Mordheim or RPG?
btw, Treasure Island Pirates will definitely be released this year :)
You know, I didn't think that figure couldbe made to look this good. It always seemed a bit wonky to me before, but you've managed to paint away those small issues. Now I want one... ::)
PS whoes the guy with the big sack? LAF?
Lovely stuff Prof :-* Have been thinking about running a bar room brawl game (loosely based on a very old White Dwarf article),I think you may have tipped me over...... :D
just putting together some old things, the idea is to make a kind of a freak procession with animals, freaks, zombies and other characters. What do you think, any suggestions for that?

Mordheim Carnival of Chaos Plague Cart (or whatever it's called) would be good. Now I think about it Carnival Of Chaos had some other nice oddities in it like a nurglish ringmaster type, a weird jester and a Plaguebearer in a cape.
or the westwind gypsie wagon?
yes, thought of that too, it's a good option.
Well, and that one car with the cage full of vampire kids.
Really looking forward to making all that..
This one...
yeah, that's something I like. Any chance for a bigger pic and some close-ups?
Damn that guy next to the ogre is a GIANT! He must be almost 40mm tall!
I'm guessing out of prod now!
About the carnivale, how about stringing them all together with chain. Maybe some sort of rules mod that they have to go around really close together until the 'master' let's them off the chain ( some random event would let this happen ??? )
I've already thought about, Jim, that's why the chain on the pic. Will maybe string not all of them but some for sure.
Awesome! I really like the skintone on these. What make are they?
They're the healthiest looking Ghouls I've encountered...proves you are who/what you eat...possibly.
Excellent minis. And great paintjob, as usual. I am also a bit curious why you picked such warm colours for ghouls?

More great stuff.
I think that the flesh tone work well. Greenish ghouls just do not look right to me.
They are supposed to be degenerate humans, after all. Are they not?
Love the woman with the massive rolling pin.
What range is she from?
What a lovely scene - just great, Alex! Seems you have a couple of days off from work ...?
8)
Out of curiosity, what material did you use for your road?
Nothing at all, its a part of the table, of the styrofoam, slightly scraped out and painted.
Can you please tell us what company makes the ghoul's cemetery walls and graves?
great Stuf Prof and I am really liking the pigs! :-*. Maybe you can start using them as a trademark, sort of like Hammer's man and his dog - well maybe not lol
I think I can see it now. Heavy grit sandpaper I assume?
NICE, IT'S ALL ROUND TO YOURS FOR A GAME THEN? :D
"Hey, Silas, I thought I just saw something moving up by the gravestones..."
"Don't be daft, Herbert, probably just a cat."
"I'll just go and have a look. You stay here."
Cue screams and the sound of a scuffle. When Silas and the others arrive, all that is left of Herbert is his lucky hat and his left boot. With his left foot still inside.
I love how cinematic your photos are. Top work, Prof.
Nice work. Where did you get the cemetery model? Scratchbuilt?

So his hat was not so lucky then.
Wow, I just 'found' this thread and I love it! I know it's all been said before but great work prof.! I love your painting and I love all the atmosphere that goes in your models and your pictures. Those Ostlanders look great too, I love the red and yellow and green colour scheme. This is exactly the fantasy feeling I fell in love with when I first started playing Warhammer :-*
Wonderful stuff all round, very inspirational. 8)
May we see some hero shots of the West Wind peasants, please?
Can I ask what sort of varnish you use (if any)?
Never left the saddle :) I’ve painted about 200 LAM figures in the last 10 months.
I have to warn you, though, they’re a bit on the big side, especially the women in the pack are just huge, about 30-32mm, just like the later Gothic Horror miniatures.
How do those West Wind figures look beside the Bruegelburg folk? Or did I manage to overlook a shot of mixed figures while I tried to keep from drooling on my keyboard?
Is the door at the top of the stairs home made or bought?
Saw yor building,Prof. Excellent work, only thing are the windows. In the middleage the glas was not like ours. It was coloured and very thick
The timberworks are just balsa cut to the right sizes, right?
I wish I could find a supplier of cork of the type you (and Matakishi) use, but at least I have found a place to buy foamboard relatively nearby :)
Great looking building, and it's gone up so quickly too. I really like your roof tiles, what are they made of?
You’ve also given me a basing dilemma. I love the look of your bases and I would love to base my fantasy miniatures on coins now that I’ve seen yours. However, I’m also about to embark on a journey down memory lane and paint a load of old school citadel miniatures. So I want to base them on square slotta bases to preserve that 80’s/ 90’s look. But after seeing yours I really want to base them on coins. Aaaargh! What to do :'(
That is a beautiful building. Will you be applying anything onto the cork for texture? Or does the cork already have enough texture?
Thin MDF. Drove me crazy to cut them.)
Looking forward to seeing the barmaid being painted too ;)
Lovely! My first thought (about the roof tiles) was that you used coffee stirrers, how wrong could I be lol
Looking forward to seeing the barmaid being painted too ;)
It is possible to get 2 mm cork too - 10sqm in a roll for just about € 20 :o
That might be an easier solution for cutting into roof tiles?
()
http://www.dintaeppekaede.dk/shop/korkunderlag-rullekork-11488p.html
This shop also has cork tiles for about €23.50 per sqm (I guess it is 10 30x30 cm tiles or so) - is that an OK price (I have NO idea of the price level)?
Though 23,50 EUR for 30x30cm tiles is a bit too much for my taste.
It is probably about €2.35 per tile (1 sqm for 23.50), but what is the normal price in Germany? I'm planning to bring the trailer next time we go to visit the in-laws near Haderslev, and then go south of the border to do some shopping.
If I can find a builders' market/hardware store, I might bring back some dense insulation foam, and even some cork, if it is cheaper down there.
Barmaid, not sure, probably will be painted though I don’t like the mini very much. But maybe to give you some pleasure :)
You could always replace her with a couple feisty dwarf barmaids... ;)
That is a normal price for Germany too but you also could get the stuff cheaper (12-15 EUR). Though sometimes you’ll have to be patient and take some time looking through the hardware stores.
Is that something I’ve missed? Have you got some?
Looks :-* !
Well, yes: http://whiteknightminiatureimperium.blogspot.com/search/label/Dwarf%20civilians (http://whiteknightminiatureimperium.blogspot.com/search/label/Dwarf%20civilians)
Greens here: http://whiteknightminiatureimperium.blogspot.com/search/label/Civilian%20greens (http://whiteknightminiatureimperium.blogspot.com/search/label/Civilian%20greens)
One thing you could do about the windows is cover them with some fine mesh, to give the aspect of leaded glass. :)
Hmm...not a bad idea..now I only need that fine and authentical looking mesh...
Missed indeed! Very cool. Put them to my next order :)
Hmm...not a bad idea..now I only need that fine and authentical looking mesh...
Surprisingly I’m enjoying it to grab out older stuff and to give them some new shine. And it’s faster than painting of quite new stuff :)
these a few trees are trying to look like a deep forest. Obviously fruitless. I definitely need more trees.
Where did you get the bases for your trees (the trunk and roots)? I have not seen any like it before!
They are the part of the trees. No idea where the threes come from, got them decades ago.
Where did you get the bases for your trees (the trunk and roots)? I have not seen any like it before!
Hopefully they will appear, fully painted, in Witchtown more quickly!
Michael,
That’s the new one, put quickly for the photo shooting, without the complete roof set. I’m going to start the building tonight.
It’s a pity the old TTW buildings are OOP. If somebody got and would like to sell them, please let me know, I would be highly interested.
They have to, I’m going to represent the first part of Witchtown at coming Tactica (February 2012).
Lovely painting Alex :D
Prof.,this may interest you http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Man_Who_Laughs
Thank you, Darren and thanks a lot again for these Town Cryer and the Hunchback minis :)
Did read it being teenager. I was visiting my grandma on summer holidays and got loads of time for reading. My grandparents have got some older books, actually the most of them too boring but “The Man Who Laughs” was one of the few I felt was worth reading it.
One of my favourites (the wolf Homo),a romantic tragedy; the horribly mutilated man,the beautiful blind girl that he rescues,Ursus the father figure, working as travelling players and the ultimate tragic end. A cracking read.
You must have been an erudite young fellow :) I didn't read it till my 30s.
And a little scene from the streets of Withtown. The first three (from left) figures are from a Reaper Townsvolk pack, the running boy at the right is also a Foundry civilian (from the Vikings range)
A couple of new figures today. First some old Citadel halflings, some of the cutest minis I've ever seen. Don't ask about the building, I don't know where from it is, bought it ages ago at Ebay.

Wonderful stuff, very inspirational...
Have you thought of using these minis from Pro Gloria???
I think they would suit what you already have.
... the slotta-thingie that goes in the base (what's the actual name of that thing?)...
Gutsnort is great I've tried to get one but at the moment ebay is £50+!!!
OMG, mine was quite expensive, too, but not THAT expensive..
Didou get two?
I've seen those mirliton minis a week ago at a convention here in Italy. I was near to buy some dogs and some kids but they are too small for 28mm scale in my opinion. I think they are 25mm or smaller. And...maybe they are better when painted but they were not so well sculpted and detailed...
Thats a real shame. I liked the look of those.
I know them and I've got the kitchen diorama and actually have in mind to use them for this project. I didn't find them too small. Definitely not if compared to the old Citadel stuff. I will make some compasion pics.
1980s citadel is 25mm so it should fit find and mirlton is old 80s stuff from....? (ah help!)
you meant Grenadier? yes, Fantasy and Future stuff. But I thought these medieval figures are an own creation of Mirliton.

Beauties
You did an amazing job!!
I lovely the mine entrance too! Is scratchbuilt?
In the first pic is the big guy one of your line of models? And the book too?
Do you have a link for Netterrain? Because despite the name google can't find it...
The lectern with book looks a lot like the Mega Minis bookstand:
http://freeboardgamesnow.com/bookstandx1.aspx
So, I suppose it's Metal Magic. =)
(You do realise that now you will have to get the same figures for yourself now, dont you? ;))

Sorry, no idea where the cauldron with the unfortunate guy comes from. Also Westwind
Lovely Stuff Prof :-* out of interest I am building some small warbands using celtos and noticed they ahve released a cauldron wtih undead types emerging may be another additional cauldron for your coven :D ;D
Where is it from?
The repaint really brings out the best of a very nice building.
By the way, which colors did you use for the base? It's a really nice base color.
womble look
sorry, Karl, but that is too much for my English, no idea what this means :)
One of those tiny villages I'd like to be 28mm so I could live in it!
Who makes the guy with the outstretched arm holding the lantern in this pic?:
http://leadadventureforum.com/images/mordheim/witchtown_adventurer_01.jpg
Another LOVELY creation. The scene gives meaning to the expression "brought to life". VERY WELL DONE!
Please tell met that you play with them !!! Such awesome stuff must be played with :)
Quite, it makes me wonder how long you spend staging the photos prof?
yes, I'm going to play with them.
It depends. Sometimes some minutes, sometimes longer. But it's easier since I've got that Bruegelburg setup, I just need to put the figures and make fotos.
Which rules are you going to use
We have 2 weeks holiday coming up and have not decided where to go. If I had my choice we'd spend the time in Witchtown. I have seen nowhere more interesting and exciting this year!
sorry, Adam, did miss your question. My own rule set.
Great photos that capture the scene perfectly.
:-*
Is that German language only?
yes.
Um, my GCSE German might be lacking. Though the last rules I wrote involved a d10 and made up numbers (British vs Zulus in fabulous plastics), but then I was 10.I thought you all spoke perfect German in Bögenhafen* ;)
I really love this thread! It amazes me that I've never seen it before!
Could you take a picture of the complete city? I would love to see everything in one picture!
As well as some game reports if your time permits. :D

Any chance we will be able to see these dwarfs and entertaining animals from WK on the market? I would like to have them in my town. ;)
Well, semi on the market anyway.

some WK dwarves and pigs arrived in Witchtown :) Lovely figures and great fun to paint!
Superb brushwork :-* :-* :-*
Magnificent paint work...makes me feel like crap because I just painted my first minis in 9 months...and they're garbage.
At last, an update! 8)
Indeed!
Great muted colour choices.
:-* :-*
Lovely fellows, Alex! Getting in mood for Zombicide: Black Plague already? ;)´
WOW! Great stuff Prof! The latest Zombicide KS gave me a jolt too! Then I remembered my unfinished Zombicide and got back to finishing up the basic set :D They are nice minis to paint with the exaggerated detail. Just a nightmare to clean up though...
Just love this project!
Superb brushwork :-* :-* :-*
Btw, this post today is aimed to herald starting of a new era..yes, we are going into dungeons under Witchtown soon!
Lovely Work, Alex. Would you mind if I posted that top photo on our Facebook page, please?
I have to say, you do a very nice blend on your nags... Do you use oils when you paint horses?
Exciting to see some of your stuff again :-* I actually have that first picture as my desktop background - It's a very evocative scene.
I agree fully on the otherworld. Absolutely awesome miniatures.
Gorgeous brushwork,Alex.
:-* :-*
Really looking forward to seeing more of the giant....and the dungeons.
8) 8) 8)
(Now I shall have to investigate Otherworld a little more thoroughly too. Those sculpts are wonderful. :D).
Some lovely stuff in here, not just the figures, but the terrain, photos, everything. Excellent all round.
Now I want to start a Nordtown. :D
Fantastic miniature - and painting to match!
That is indeed a lovely (well ...) giant. And yes, it's by Tom Meier.
I love how these old figures are content to rely on scale for their effect, rather than being sheathed in steroidal muscle. They're all the more menacing for their understatement. And the deliberately non-human proportions really add to the look; he's a little like a Bauer troll.
Love that first photo and the girls face lol
Very subtle painting that works a treat on such a large figure :-* :-*
So much wonderful! :-*
Brilliant paintjob on that lovely, old, ugly fella.
So much character.
:-* :-*
I love that picture set up too.
Inspired, the young lass staring him in the eye.
Brilliant.

Wow! Lovely miniature, and such a good job on the skin - nice colour choices and blending!

Great painting on a great mini. Skintones and shading are top.
You and me both!
Great.painting! I always loved that giant.
The confrontation between Giant & the determined Little Girl is PRICELESS! GREAT & IMAGINATIVE WORK!
One of my favourite giants of all time - a masterpiece of sculpting and painting!
:-*
I love the story in the picture. Where is the broken sign? I take the giant my have eaten it?
Lovely paint jobs on the figures and the buildings
Stunning work and the picture is absolute genius. o_o
cheers!

To my shame I hadn't noticed this topic before, so I went through all 33 pages. All really excellent - except for the few missing pics in the upper twenties. ;) It's a huge inspiration for my own fantasy project, especially in reminding me that the LAM Breugelberg minis exist...
Sorry for pointing it out
I thought it was deliberately broken for the story
Wish this giant was still available .....
Wish this giant was still available ..... Such a great sculpt! Fantastic paint work
I love the giant! Great job on this one Alex :)
Gorgeous work on the giant and the rest of the thread. I agree those old sculpts are very colourful and the style is wonderful
Beautiful painting & visual storytelling!
Splendid paintjob on that giant! Love that guy. By coincidence I started painting my own casting of him earlier this year (and he's joined the hordes of the half-painted).
Oh, Alex, this is wonderful. Lovely brushwork, well done to you.
This is a fantastic thread!
Wish this giant was still available ..... Such a great sculpt! Fantastic paint work
Ironwind metals just had a kickstarter a while ago aimed at bringing back classic sculpts. They had giants on the list, but sadly didn't get to them. Possibly with better options for eu, they might have gotten further. Still though, I have good hopes of these models returning to the market.
Similarly, it would be great it if mirliton miniatures got around to bringing more of the grenadier dragon lords back.
Why? I assume you mean in production as he remains available on the second hand market. Re-releases are usually made with an inferior alloy, cast with less skill and with a price tag three to four times what the street price of an original casting is. And this guy is far from rare. I don't think I paid more than $10 if that for my casting and you can probably guess how much it would cost new today. Ral Partha lead castings from the 80s, along with Grenadier, Metal Magic and others are equaled only occasionally these days. Just lurk on ebay more.
Completly forgot to say you did a great job prof. o_o
I also noticed a change in your style, can you tell what techniques you have applied from the workshop and how much did you like it? I'm getting more and more intrigued with the workshops, especially after seeing the changes in painting style that they sometimes lead to. I.m now watching the dark sword dvds and already love what they do for me.
Lovely pictures!
I can only hope to get such a nice set-up together some day. :-*
Those Olley Orcs look quite nice. How do they scale up next to, say Otherworld or Hasslefree minis, and are they still available somewhere?
Absolutely gorgeous all round, Alex!
:-* :-*
Some great figure choices in there, mixing the old with the new seamlessly.
8) 8)
You are right, that dungeon is not too rough, is it?
:D
A superb set of miniatures and wonderful staging as usual Alex 8)
Those Otherworld men at arms are really nice figures.
(They would go nicely with my Game of Thrones collection... ::) ;))
Alex quite an inspiring bit of dungeon work there. ;)
Love the minis, and the atmosphere you create with your photos.
:-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
I was re-directed to your thread from your photo on the Otherworld facebook page. Fantastic! Thank you or your inspiring dioramas!
Lovely stuff. I don't mind saying I think the Hirelings and Henchmen box is the best Otherworld product. Lovely stuff. I put up a host of similar pictures a while back, Dwarven Forge and Otherworld make a nice combination!
Stunning work on everything :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Where are the bases on the otherworld miniatures from? Are they supplied with the miniatures?
Fantastic stuff. Inspiring photos! :)
All really excellent - except for the few missing pics in the upper twenties. ;)
Great stuff!
As always inspiring paintjobs, terrific scenery and your photography is always terrific.
So do you have several permanent terrain setups for your photos? No matter the genre...you always have kickass backgrounds that are perfect for the miniatures.
Sounds awesome. You should shoot some photos of your hobby space someday and make us all jealous! :)
Wonderful stuff Alex!
Great stuff all over here. The characters & scenery is just fantastic. A feast for the eyes & my imagination. I have been pining for those otherworld mercenaries for some time now. For that mater the barbarian as well, and then there is the paladin.... oh dear. lol
cheers-

just putting together some old things, the idea is to make a kind of a freak procession with animals, freaks, zombies and other characters. What do you think, any suggestions for that?

21st September. Official LAF amazing paintjobs day!
Wonderful, lovely and gritty colour choices make for a very scary bunch of beautifully painted sculpts.
:-* :-*
Great camera work too.
The scenes look great, especially the idea of Miss Sackville-Baggins seeing off the undead hordes with her Broom of Destruction.

Ahhh, some new eye-candy at least ... :-* :o
Undeath was NEVER SO LOVELY before. VERY WELL DONE!
I did up one of White Knight's Living Impaired Hobbits awhile ago; it was a JOY to paint. I hope you enjoy yours as much!
Stunning, and you clearly show good things come to those who wait....
Just over four years since his first outing on the thread and now he has fancy new duds!
Great paintjob on great models, Prof.! I have a soft spot for mordheim zombies so this UD really made my day. The kit groupshot is very nice but as always the "live in Witchtown" shot is something special. :-*
Waiting for those WK halflings to be painted :P
Fantastic just that. :-*
Agree with everyone -just fantastic.
many thanks for posting!
cheers-

I love your work, you are a source of inspiration for me. (It is your fault if I collect barbarians)
Where the cart with the goat come from ? It is such a lovely piece.
Great stuff! I like the old gw zombies in the background too
The cart is still available as "Wizard with Wagon (http://www.rafm.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=RAF&Product_Code=RAF03708&Category_Code=DOD)", strangely in the Demons of Darkness category, not "Wizards". It's one of the models which make me want to build a fantasy cavalcade of some kind for no specific purpose.

:-* :o :-*Amazing thread! Always used to look at this one back in my lurking days. Truly inspirational work, thank you so much for sharing and great work on the unliving folks of multi-ethnicity.
Errr.... is that a pig playing the lute? ;D
The buildings are BEAUTIFULLY painted, WONDERFULLY detailed creations. VERY WELL DONE, Jan!
Congratulations, Prof. for some LOVELY additions to your Town, AND for having such a talented friend.
Exquisite in every detail. A rare standard that few attain.
Man, do I need a friend like him! :o
Those are absolutely beautiful buildings and the photos of them are so atmospheric, so clear... just wonderful!
... oh, and the minis aren't bad either. ;)
Splendid work Jan :-* :-* :-*
You're getting quite the collection now Alex 8)
cheers
James
Errr.... is that a pig playing the lute? ;D
Smashing job, Jan! Single stones with painted highlights - alle Achtung! :-* :o
Time to reserve a glass-case just for your terrain collection, Alex ... ;D
What kind of devil's pact have you forged there, Alex? o_o ;)
Continues to be simply jaw dropping - enjoying all the swine herding too.
I must have viewed this thread a hundred times but neglected to comment because, well what else can be said? An amazing thread with such levels of quality control and imagination. The professor has created the table many of us I'm sure have always dreamed of!
The worlds you create Alex are simply wonderful. Well done on all the work (yours and others) that makes this all possible.
Just stumbled across this. Amazing work Professor.
This thread just continues to get more...tremendouser.
Amazing project! o_o
I've just spent the last hour of my life hypnotized by this whole thread o_o. Atmospherical, creative, simply pure genius. Congratulations, this is a project that deserves admiration.
An absolutely extraordinary project you have going here - whimsical and beautifully executed. A delight. I love how the Joker's mercenary guards are non-human landsknechts, in fashionable clothing for the 16th century.
Lovely work again, Alex.
Beautifully painted, well chosen, figures to make another great scene for the LPL.
Pure eye-candy at its best!
:-* :-*
(Still too many of the buggers for my liking, though... >:D ;))
Brilliant. Love the colour scheme of the Joker. :)
The halfling's familiar - I might have one around here myself. I thought it was a Citadel C11, but it's not on that particular page of SoL.
Funny idea. Jocker as Fantasy. Love it, Alex, more of these Fantasy League of heroes please!
:o Just keeps getting better Alex. I love this thread. :-*
As happy as i am with my 18mm "Vales of Anduin" collection, witchtown shows me what is possible and just makes me try harder.
Is the armour and weapons painted NMM?
Those are BEAUTIFUL additions, all done in your WONDERFULLY distinctive style. VERY WELL DONE as always!
really nice stuff there Prof :o
The painting is, as ever, wonderful. This is one of my favorite threads.
Wave 3 was released on the Eureka Miniatures late last year and wave 4 will be soon after Salute.
Between you and Eureka, somebody has been smoking something funny o_o
Thanks, lads, glad you like them :)
I wanted to have some sort of a carnival scene, the guys walking down the street and all the citizens looking at them. For that reason I've tried to put as much as possible of the citizens into the picture without hiding the main protagonists of the scene. I think it did work quite well.
