Hey all,
So I recently started working on a dark age/middle age inn based on the Inn of the Prancing Pony from the Lord of the Rings movies to be used for various games... And I figured I would detail the inside as well as the outside. I mean, isn't it important to be able to carry a running battle through the top floor of a crowded inn? Here is a link to my gallery:

And a picture:

So, my question is should I do the interior of every single building in the town? If I do about 10 buildings, it will be a lot of work... And honestly, about 70% of the work on such a piece is done on the inside, detailing. Is it worth it in a miniature game to be able to go inside a building? Should I only detail the insides of important and large buildings? What do you guys think?
Thanks
n.

Wow - that looks ace so far!
I would say only detail the insides of important buildings.
Just say the building that you don't make with interior detail are locked and barred, so the player's troops couldn't get in if they tried.
Or add rules for "random" fiendishly dangerous inhabitants who will attack anyone who tries to get into them. Let the players know this and they won't want to go inside!

Lovely, Neldoreth. I nurished a dream for a long, long time that I would do a PP for my Mithril miniatures.
I am with Kurgan. To much detail on a wargaming board is distractning.

That is awesome! Exactly what I wanted to hear :) The Pony, and Inns in general are where all the action is, so I don't regret doing the inside of it, but the rest of the buildings may very well have no interior... Or at least, very basic interior.
And that gives me hope for my pulp/wwii/modern zombie city board! I have only one building (http://www.blackbirdmedia.org/miniatures/?view=terrain&which=modernRuins) so far, and because I did the entire interior, it took forever! I may just make a few buildings with no accessible interior!

Thanks guys!

I'll second this suggestion. If you have additional time later, you can always do more detailed buildings to supplement those you have, or re-build the existing ones that aren't detailed, palming the "used" ones off to finance new toys.

really nice works on your building. In My club we make an "alamo" like building. the interiors are juste textured and painted. After tou can add all the details you want.

Thta's a really great work!

Wow, very nice. Wish I had the space to house and store that size of building.

Wow! That's fantastic! I think you should do the interior of all your buildings. It's a lot of work, but in the end, you'll be glad you did it. I'm building an old west town in 40mm scale, interiors included. It's a lot of extra work (especially EVERYTHING being scratchbuilt,) but the games we've played with them have been, bar-none, the best miniatures skirmishes we've yet played.
Then again, my interiors are basic and utilitarian, whereas yours are a magnificent piece of art! Though, if I know terrain builders, in the back of your head you know you want to build nice interiors for ALL your structures :)

man that is some class building work you got there...
one question, what did you use for the walls...It is difficult to find a light weight but sturdy board...
cheers and keep up the good work
