I've been working on a project for this years BLAM but recently I've been distracted. I thought if I followed what others have done and posted my progress you guys would get on my case and encourage me to finish it in time for November. So here goes....
Firstly, apologies for the quality of the pics, the only camera I have at present is on my mobile phone. These are just teaser pics, I promise I will post better quality prints soon.
The game will be a Victorian version of the Italian Job but set in Stepney, East London. The scenario is simply for the blaggers to get away with their booty. I'm still working on the finer details. During their escape they will be hunted by the police but will have accomplices to help them along their route. To add some spice to the game there will be randomly generated encounters with vigilantes and friendlies along the way.
Anyway, (apart from Overlord's excellent Geezers) here's my inspiration:
Here are the getaway contraptions, the VSF bit. From left to right; Charlie Croker, Big William and Camp Freddy. Vehicles are converted Eureka Armoured Penny Farthings and the drivers are Copplestone pilots.
Here are some of the police vehicles that will be attempting to apprehend them. First the mariah, I've made two of these, converted from Lledo Days Gone By wagons. The driver is from Redoubt's Zulu war range, helmet badge added by Svennn. It still has to be finished; basing, reigns to be added and the coat of arms is only temporary until I can get my hands on decals.
Fast Response Team (Foundry). I'll have a couple of these.
Here's the target. The first ever cashpoint machine (ATM), hydraulically powered. Another VSF bit. It's actually a Confession Machine by Maxmini. Guarded 24 hours by an armed uniformed constable (paid for by the bank) and plain clothed security guards, probably armed too.
So that's it for now, still heaps to do so would appreciate it if you got on my case from time to time for updates.
The following chaps deserve much credit. Svennn for helping me with the horses and other bits you will see soon. Jimbibbly for the women (all will be revealed) and of course Malamute for his unceasing valuable advice and p**s taking.

By the way did I tell you? You are not allowed to run this at the same time as my game because I want to play.
-
:-* :-* :-*
This is fantastic!
-
Thanks again chaps, no pressure then. lol
I wrote out a list of things to do last night; it's huge. In the spirit of commitment and immediate action I sat down to ponder it over a beer or two and The Day The Earth Caught Fire (great film)......... bad Thunderchicken!
I'll knuckle down tonight.
For those of you who like the Mariah, here's how it started out:
I used a thick black primer to hide the advertising on the side. Added the railings and improved the drivers seat. The horses are Dixons. Very quick job. I got the inspiration from Malamute's correspondents wagon.
I tried to take a better picture of the getaway contraptions but the camera still isnt having it:

Very nicely done. Your imagination and creative talent are awesome. I love it ALL. The get-away contraptions are my favourite items.
-
Nowt wrong with those pictures, mate, really top notch job. 8)
Makes me sad that I'm having to miss out again this year.
-
Do you have any more pictures of the building with arched windows, the one behind the escape contraptions?
Is it a home-made or commercial piece?

You're in luck my good man. The frontage is a Paul Smith (Overlord) design and available from Outpost:

Here's the build process:

The bobbies on the big wheeled bicycles are wonderfull. Good job!

This thread is so cool.
Everything looks to be coming together.
Hard to say what I like the best.
So to say, love it all. :-*
-
Wow!!!! :o :o :o This is going to be great. It just makes me look forward more and more towards BLAM! What Gamer Mac says I'll be gutted if I miss this on the day, I still have nightmares about missing Malmutes game last year!!!
-
:o WOW!!!! :-* :-*

If you get across the pond TC, I can't wait to play this one!
-
The first ever cashpoint machine (ATM), hydraulically powered..
:-*
Fantastic, mate!
Your city building project is truly inspiring... and looks good too! ;)

...this years BLAM...
As a relative newcomer to LAF, when is this year's BLAM? Where? What's the secret password/handshake? Is it a cake or beer event? You know, the important stuff!
-
brilliant!
very nice models and expect some more photos.
Alas I cannot be present although I wanted it too much.
[It reminds me the very old film "the first great train robbery" starring Sean Connery, Donald Sutherland and the wonderful Lesley-Anne Down -a film by Michael Crighton.
Some plot details here:
http://mgoer.blogspot.com/2008/11/moviegoer-diary-first-great-train.html
What I find intriguing is the names of the heroes: Edward Pierce and Robert Agar!]
Your idea is much more inspiring. Love the: "The first ever cashpoint machine (ATM), hydraulically powered.." Paintjon excellent.
Security figures also excellent painted.
I also expect to see a miniature like Lesley-Anne Down involved in the plot!
Have fun in the BLAM and we need to have more photos!
PS: check Wagons HO! by bluemoon they might have some wagons to save you from conversions, alas no drivers!

TC if you make it over in Oct for the Con you can pick one or two up. I have an Army Card so slash 40% off the price but add the applicable taxes for Pennsylvania. :D
-
Great stuff. I'm particularly fond of the black mariah and the victorian ATM.
:D
-
Thanks again chaps. Comments are very much appreciated. I'm working on scenery and street furniture at the moment so nothing exciting to report.

Malamute put me on to these models a while back and I already have some. Thanks for the heads up though. I forgot Sterling Moose had his Army Card. Hmph!
I like the Lesley Anne Down idea. I've got a copy of the First Great Train Robbery on my shelf, I think I'll have to give it another watch ;).
Mister Rab, I'll PM you.
-
Cheers, TC.
-
TC,
Don't think that we have forgotten! Show us the loveliness that you have accomplished in the last two weeks. Tick, tick, tick............... Time is advancing lol lol

As another newcomer I second this.

Sorry chaps, was side tracked preparing a War of the Worlds game for Matakishi's Tea Party (pics soon). I had to build and paint a few things for the tabletop but luckily most of it will be used for the BLAM game so in a way it is progress:

Thanks old fruit.
Could do with some advice, the green mat I'm using for the board isn't working when it comes to the the 'urban' bit. I'm thinking maybe a grey mat where the built up section begins or how about a more neutral colour?
-
Hi TC
Go for a brown base with cream highlight & green static grass patches. We used to call this Perryesque @ Foundry. Actual colours are Snakebite Leather(GW), Tamiya Flesh with bleached bone highlight. Add the grass & hairspray the lot.
How did the rules work out at The Party?

Love that canal - are the lock gates fixed or movable?

At first glance, I was thinking the scene would be part of an excellent chase.
Alas, even mentioning War of the Worlds brought to mind some tripodal entities of which I've been wondering... ::)

Cracking stuff old bean :-*
Go for a grey mat for the urban areas :)
cheers

The gates are fixed but that allows the bottoms to be submerged in the water texture. I made the canal for TC two years ago now but have just finished some extra sections including a junction specifically for the Stepney Job scenario. It is only mdf and polyfilla/spackle and very simple to construct.

Funny, I'm imagining a large cockerel head of papier mache on top... lol

Cracking stuff! lol lol
There will indeed be blueness of the arse. Other extremities will simply wither and fall off but that may be down to the home brew served as part of the infllight service.
-
What a superb idea! I love those armoured penny farthings. o_o o_o o_o
