Hi Folks, I've just started playing gaslight and I'm hooked. I've had a few ideas in the past months but everything has just been sitting around half completed. This all changed with my first game last week and now I'm feeling that urge to get units and models onto the table!!!!!
My first foray into GASLIGHT will be a French Colonial force. I'm going to include units of zouaves, legionaires and various other VSF inspired doodads. But behold! Here is my first finished unit: 1st Company, Josephine Baker Light infantry, lead by the very capable Leiutanant Michelle Noir.
They are armed with spears plus 4 are armed with rifles. They are not known for their marksmanship however, they are worthy opponents in a scuffle. They also sport the traditional green and yellow of the légère

Brother. oh brother :o :o :o
-
They are fun! Nicely done
-
WOW! what figs are those? I want some!!!! Great paint job. :-* :o :o
-
Are those from Eureka ?
-
The figures are indeed Eureka, from the Pax Limpopo range. Colonel Simpson's and Colonel Saunders guards :). I have mine painted up for Gaslight as well, although I've never used them. Nice job on them, I've never tried flesh that dark. it looks good with the yellow.

-
I have a few of the troops and the officer plus the good Colonel himself, they are like all the pax limpopo stuff- excellent.
-
Very clever.
Like them alot.
-
Thanks for the kind replies. I'm working on the colonel at the moment although I am doing him with a French twist.
-
Very nice indeed. I'm looking forward to seeing you rest of your force.
Its good to see someone else collecting Frenchies :)
-
Have you had a chance to put this unit into a game? I have a rule, Buck's Law, that indicates that the first time a unit is used in a game, it gets whacked.
Buck
-
I know that law. I think it's just something that gets subconciously built in to every set of rules/game system.
As it was. In their first game they just ran anound the table alot and achieved nothing. On the other hand... My aeronef (also in it's first game) got whacked. I think it's a matter of the nef being more prominent therefore more deserving of greater whackage.
-
Our games (Melnibonean, Fuzzy, myself and some Prussians) tend to end up with pretty high body counts anyway. I don't think I've had a game with an intact unit yet.
-
Great idea and theme for this unit, a nice twist on african allies!
I like the commander model, reminds me a bit of Grace Jones with that hair style!

Ha ha... If you hade them in a German force you could name her "Groß Jones"

Greetings Gentlemen, here is the next unit to join my French Gaslight force.
Please welcome "The Flying Balzacs" with their world famous Balzacs Aerial Risque. Featuring the that damsel of the aether Madame Kikia Balzac and her erstwhile chaperone and husband - Claude Balzac - Creator and pilot of the meta-clockwork ornithopter "The Red Pecker".

The idea behind Balzacs' Aerial Risque is that they are a non-armed, non-fighting support unit. Their role is to fly low over opposing troops. Kikia Balzac then performs her Aerial Risque with her famous catchcry "Baps for the Lads!".
Troops watching this aetherbourne display of rubinesque female parts are distracted and stop where they are in the hope of catching an eyeful.
Voila!

OH MY GODS!!!!! that red flyer! and that purdy little thang!? WOW! YES I like it!!! Sorry but I'll say it again OH MY GODS!!!!!! That is terriffic :-* :-* :-* Did you scratch it? or is it a kit?
Agreed, its ace, I recognise the figures as Eureka, but the plane?
-
Very original :-* :-* :-* :-*
Tell us how you made it?
Where are all the bits from?
-
Wow! Just... wow! :-*
-
Great stuff 8) I like the composite photo.
cheers
James
-
"Kikia Balzac". Very clever! The plane is great as well.
-
I think my Jihadists would be more distracted by thoughts of covering that shameful woman. Great work IKH.
-
Tell us how you made it?

Thankyou all for your kind replies.
The ornithopter is made from the left over parts of a Revel Albertross model that was used for the Aeroneff. There are a few extra bits and pieces (like the nose) that came from my bits box. The wings were pretty simple: Plasticard and plastic rod. The bits on the fuselarge where the wings attach are from a plastic GW heavy bolter (for some reason I have a lot of these). The nose is a brass cone from a very old ceiling lamp. The pilot is grennstuff and the lady is from Eureka.
-
:oBrilliant:o
-
My my what can I say :o
I love the wings and of course the daring damsel in undress ;)
I worry why the French are letting their women do all the fighting for them :)
great work!
Cheers

Here's my next unit: Le régiment perdu de Zouave (The Lost Zouave Regement).
These are a bit of an intrim unit made from Perry plastic ACW zouaves. Whilst they will do the job in the short run I'm not really thrilled by them. Good for a large army but not so good for a single small unit where I really want them to stand out as an elite unit.
Also my first try at dipping and I'm not happy with the results. I used a less expensive concotion (Spanish in origin - I think) and it is to thick and to dark. Not impressed!!!!!
But, as I said they are an intrim unit.

-
Once again I have to tell: Stunning
I am really impresed by the way the lovely Eureka figure is used.
I always wonder how I could make any use of her and here is the best answer!
-
It's been a while since I added to my little force of French VSF colonials. I wanted some Foreign Legion and it took me a while to find just what I was looking for but I finally found le Legion Extraterrestriale from Parroom Station Miniatures (through Brigade Games) and they are perfect. So, here are a few new pics.
First up is the army commander of my army: General de bragade, Henri D'leyzhee
(http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg91/ikhemm/General.jpg)
Here is a shot for my first (colour test) Legion Extraterrestriale
(http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg91/ikhemm/Legionaires_1.jpg)
With the Legion command pack comes a signaler with a strange device which I have decided will make a great control box.
So here he is as controller of le Bombe de porc (clockwork pig from Eureka).

Have not looked at this thread for awhile,
boy I have missed some cool stuff.
The plane, have to love that.
The General, he is great, and is funny, all at the same time.
Well done.
-
Now that I have a working drill I can get my 'Neff done to face down these dastardly French!
Fuzzy? I may need some reinforcements...
-
Zut allors... My former ally turns against me. >:(
Vous êtes un traître, running to those dirty British shopkeepers!
-
Great looking units with difference :-*
If you end up fighting the British then you would have to get a clockwork cow for the 'roast beef' effect :D
cheers
James
-
More lovliness, Melnibonean!
:-* :-* :-*
A great-looking force is coming together here, with plenty of laughs thrown in for good measure.
Keep up the great work!
-
Bah! English, French... All colonial invaders tramping my sacred soil! lol
-
If it helps Hat Guy I have painted up some north african civilians you can use as human shields ;)
Cheers
Fuzzy.
How about a Gaslight extravaganza to finish the year with a bang?
-
How about a Gaslight extravaganza to finish the year with a bang?
Sounds good to me. I actually have a working force now :)
Dec 16?
-
I do like your commander and Legionaires (i would have gone for these figures for my force if I hadn't found Warrior's Legionaires first).
-
Yes Dec 16 would be good. Since it is a summer theme night how about we return to north africa for a VSF version of the siege of Khartoum???
I can whip up some egyptian troops (with British support) to defend Khartoum against the French and Madhist (supported by El Laurence and his evil band).
No doubt the Prussians will cause some mischief too ;)
Cheers
Fuzzy.
-
16th looks good. Wonder if I can paint 40 Madhists in two weeks? >:D
-
Yes you can. I have faith.
Or you can use the 40k painting method. Spray them black and voila! A fully painted army lol
-
I'm thinking the basecoat + Devlan Mud method. I can always go back and fix them later.
-
If you want quick then army painter leather brown under coat, paint the clothes and weapons and then do the army painter dip.
Real quick 4 units
it's how I plan to do 300 zulus :o
We can discuss the scenario tonight at the club.
Cheers
Fuzzy.

Bonjour mes amis... It's been quite a while since I updated this thread. I should have posted my Foriegn Legion on here but I forgot to do it!
Instead I have something better. Something I've been working on for the past few weeks. It is made from the hull of a 1:48 scale Tiger tank that I picked up for $5 and a toy locomotive that I found at a local "Chinese Shop" for $4. Add a few bits from mu bits box and some naval armament fro Eureka and Voila :o

My standard of "nifty" has been reset.
-
Gads! :o
That is fantastic! :-*
-
:o :o
Bloody brilliant!
:-* :-*
-
A very nice piece of steamtech to give your army a bit of a punch. Love the name too (my wife's favourite historical military commander).
Must paint my armour ...
-
An excellent job sir! The combining of the two machines plus extra's has produced one fine looking VSF machine of war! Bravo!
-
I like it................LOTS :-* :-* :-*
-
A cracking model, Melnibonean: imposing and effective. But if it's in French service, shouldn't the name plaque read "Maréchal Ney"?
-
That's a brill idea 8) :-*
cheers
James
-
Very cool.
-
Marshal Ney, very cool.
Love it. :-*
-
Brutal looking contraption, I like it.
-
That is Fantastic! :-*
-
I say, that's superb! :-* :-*
-
Thanks for all the kind replies.
Steve F: "... if it's in French service, shouldn't the name plaque read "Maréchal Ney?"
Ummmm... :-X
-
Crikey! It looks like a VSF version of the "Bolo" Continental Seige Unit! :o
Very nice, work, sir! :-*
-
Very nice, but the gun crews on the exposed weapons will be in for a rough time.
-
Brutal looking contraption, I like it.
That sums it up nicely! Brutal.
-
Very nice, but the gun crews on the exposed weapons will be in for a rough time.
Ahhh... You miss the point of the design. In true French style: It's Big, Bombastisc, Eye Candy... Heavily Armoured, Slow and Totaly Undergunned. Crew protection? Bah!!!!!
Gloire dans la mort !
;)
-
Whoa!! :o
I stop visiting the site for a couple of days and look what happens!
Looks like a mighty opponent to face my Dauntless landship.
I picked up a couple of those same trains from a "Chinese shop" as you call it a few weeks ago and was waiting for the right inspiration, Great work.
Of course being a French landship it will no doubt have four reverse gears and one forward gear.... in case they are attacked from the rear :D
Cheers
Fuzzy.
-
What a great odea. Very Wild Wild West looking.............. :o
-
Lovely stuff :-* :-* :-*
Very VSF...ish
-
Finally... I have finally painted up some crew for the th Marshal Ney. They are made from th left over foot dragoons from the Perry plastic Napoleonic dragoons box (sans weapons).
They look the part and will match the "Fire Dragoons" that I'm working on (aka: the rest of the Perry plastics).
Hope you like.
Cheers:

Bloody marvellous!
:-* :-* :-*
-
Looks great. What a beast!
-
Too bad what looks like a short hop twixt thee and Colonel O' Truth is really thousands of kilometers. These beasts should really meet!
After the table receives suitable bracing, of course. :o
Looking at the helmets, am I the only one thinking Fire Brigade? lol
Doug

Nice selection of crew for a wonderful contraption!

Well, obviously... They ummmm...
Well it's a matter of...
Ah, here's an excuse: One of the Foreign Legionnaires - an English one who was a sign writer before he joined the Legion - painted the title.
