I'm tempted to buy the Gladiator rules and maybe the Trafalgar one's myself. At just £10 it is a bargain  :)

Edit: Bought the Gladiator rules  :D

Perhaps a stupid question, but is Kampfgruppe normandy also playable in 28mm ?

I am not sure, but most games can be used for different scales, if its not too much of a difference. However, there is a dedicated 28mm WWII game; Rules of Engagement by Great Escape Games. I am very fond of those rules, and they have some nice supplements for expanding the rules and to vary the theatres.

@Kane, from the info I've read and IIRC you can play KG at 15 and 28mm as well as the intended 20.

Thanks Galland for the info :)

Entirely my pleasure. I must also tell you that they have quite a lot of free PDFs on their site, along with other extra material. That and the fact that the guys at Great Escape Games are very open for suggestions and are willing to help out with creating lists for various units, vehicles and weapons not listed in the core games.

Took the opportunity to pick up KGN myself, been considering it for a while based on some good reviews but the price was putting me off.

Gave in a bought a copy. I have WWII in 15mm and 28mm and now looks like I'll collect some 20mm now as well! lol

I'm looking to go cheap on this and I pretty much now where to go for the infantry, but admit I'm not sure about the vehicles. Any recommendations on affordable vehicles, but still nice?

Christopher

P.S.Also picked up Waterloo, but that's another thing. I think I've bought more rule sets this year then any other.

Armourfast, Italeri Fast Assembly & Plastic Soldier Company provide good, cheap & basic plastic kits. In resin there are Frontline, Britannia and Raventhorpe ready to roll. Like you I have 15mm already but rather than build new forces in 20mm I'm going to use my existing 15mm vehicles and base up a few extra figures on single bases for the game, will work out much cheaper in the long run especially as I won't need to get any new scenery.

@NTM

I thought about doing that too in just using my 15mm stuff I already have which is fine if you play the same season, year and theatre all the time, but if you want to build multiple theatres, seasons and years then actually all the plastic stuff is cheaper and more readily available here in Germany. In Germany unless you live in large city all your 15mm and 28mm usually has to be purchased online, but just about every local hobby store carries WWII in 1/72 making it not only cheap, but convenient for the casual buys. ;)

I can't pick up much locally in 15 or 28mm here in my part of th UK either, 20mm would be a lot easier and I have considered going other scales than 15mm. Found I could make savings on the figures and/or vehicles but the thought and expense of collecting and painting the scenery in another scale put me off in the end. So it's 15mm all round for me even when doing other eras or theatres as a lot of kit can still be used from my existing collection, I'm not prepared to duplicate my collection in varying scales. I point this out as it's something I did not consider fully myself a few years ago when I decided it was cheaper to start again in 10mm rather than continue in 15mm bases solely on the price of figures/vehicles. It was only after I bought German and British armies for NWE and painted a fair bit up that I realised they needed something to fight over. This terrain would cost even more than the 15mm vehicles I based my comparison on! In 15mm I had plenty of buildings. Just trying to stop someone potentially making the same mistake as I did.

Still wish I'd stuck with 20mm in the first place though but got rid on the bulk of my collection about 20 years ago.

Hi Nigel,

Yes, terrain can get expensive and that can influence your decisions. However, just like the miniatures a lot of cheap plastic scenery is also readily available as well. I think in the long run as I do multiple years and seasons I'll save money, but at first your right it will cost more starting from scratch.
Also, I'm not getting any younger and the 15mm stuff is getting harder to see both in painting and on the table! lol

Just received my copy of KGN, a really nice book and throughly worth the £24 I gave for it, not sure I'd be willing to pay twice as much though for it, especially when there's so many of those nice pictures and similar available free on the net or in cheap(er) history books.
Now it's time to digest the rules and give the system a spin, especially since it seems that the vast majority of reviews are very favourable.

Mine arrived today as well. No intention of using the rules but I'll look at the pictures quite a lot :)
