Hello,
You will probably think "another Aliens project" ;)
I have to admit that some existing threads inspired me but I had this project ages ago and didn't find the time to start it.
It might be a bit different this time as this project covers characters from three of the movies : Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection. The last part should be a crossover between Aliens, AvP and The Thing...you will see later on. It should include miniatures, the USCM APC (scratchbuilt), some vehicles, colonists, terrain and of course aliens (Horrorclix and some Eureka or LEG aliens for the dog aliens).
I started with the USCM colonial marines, trying to respect the Colonial Marines Technical Manual platoon formation. The miniatures are from EM4 as they are the closest USCM miniatures on the market IMHO : same armor, same helmet...the Woodbines ones are too chunky and the Copplestone ones have a different equipment (but I used 3 of them).
I replaced the rifles by Hasslefree pulse rifles when I could, and converted some others.
The platoon will consist of 26 miniatures (plus some alternate weapons such as scope rifles, a bazooka (M82A3 SADAR), a flamer, shotguns, or plasma rifles). I am still waiting for some miniatures I ordered such as the synthetic human (Heresy miniature) and the dropship pilots (Hasslefree).

Here are pictures of the WIP.

I'll be watching this with interest ;)

Hei Eric,
very good start on that project, nice conversions on the gun.
Have to just disagree on one thing, the EM4 minis have not the same armour as USMC, but they are very close ;)
Will follow your thread with interest :)
Oh, do you have some pics of the Eureka Aliens, never saw them.
Are they going well with the LE ones?
I for myself go with the Denizen minis as USMC ;)

I'll take pictures but don't expect finding any : I bought them a few years ago and had to send an email to Eureka as their aliens miniatures were not in the shop. They used to make eggs too.
The Denizens ones are nice but removing the base to rebase them on a resin Fenris base is a real pain...that's one of the reasons why I didn't use the Copplestone miniatures but I keep them for a Jungle Bug Hunt project.

Would be great.
They list some Aliens in their shop, but without pics, don't know if they are the same ???
And yes, removing the base will take some time, want to put mine also on Fenris bases.
I'll even remove the bases from the LE Aliens :)
-
I'll most definitely be keeping an eye on this one. Looks like you've got off to a great start.
-
Have you considered adding some of the Hasslefree marines? they have a nice selection of female troopers, and dont forget, each platoon needs a corpsman.
-
Very nice GS work on the pulse rifles Eric, very impressed. Good use of the colonial marines handbook too ;) Yeah I've based mine on that org chart too.
Subtle conversions re: shotgun, (nice for close encounters, EAT THIS!!) ;)
Just to say I've got some DS sulacco bases I won't be using so drop me a pm if you need any more.
The Commander

He's got some pilots on order from hasslefree bud.
-
Yes I already bought all Hasslefree Marines and some more HF miniatures such as Ripley, Newt,...
I also have Sabotage miniatures for my colonists (they were sculpted by Kevin White and so are totally compatible).
Thanks Mark. I ordered more Fenris Bases from Ian and they are on the way. BTW did you finish your Aliens project ? I don't see more photos in your thread and I really like your facehuggers conversions.
-
Bubbling away under the surface mate, will return to it at some stage. I'll make doing with living vicariously though yours for the moment. ;)

Little differences like the helmet light rather than the shoulder light and other minor bits and pieces, but pretty damn good and the weapon of choice for a lot of these projects it has to be said.
Eric: terrain and scenery plans?

Yeah, and wrong codpieces, missing shoulderlamps etc ;)
Even the LE ones are not 100%.
The only "real" USMC out there are from Phebus, but they are 1:35.
Will get some of these as soon as he made some Aliens too
-
Terrain plans...the hardest part. I wish I could make this kind of terrain Braz did :
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=20983.0
But with the lack of time and room I'll forget it. I am thinking about a simple corridor system in 3D (like Space Hulk). Or simple buildings without detailled interiors. I have to think about it. The action could also take place elsewhere....on earth !!
But if I win at the casino :

Nice stuff, think I also have to win in the casino.
Just need a casino now :?
-
Comsquare asked me for photos of the Eureka Aliens :
As you can see they come as multipart miniatures : body, head, arms and tail, in 3 different styles. They are the same size as LEG Aliens (on the photo too).
Eureka used to make eggs and facehuggers too. Here is a photo next to a EM4 marine :

Nice work on the marines. The eureka aliens look nice. Could I trouble you for some photos of the Sabotage miniatures :D

Be patient they are still on my workbench...but here is a link to these miniatures :

Click on the 9th and 15th photos (they are the ones I bought).
The molds have been bought by Sergeant Major Miniatures but are not in their shop yet.
-
Hei Eric,
thanks for the pics of the Eureka Aliens, they look nice.
Have you bought the rest they stocked?
Otherwise will I try and contact them :)
-
I bought only 3 and many years ago. I am not sure they still have them but you can send them an email.
-
Eureka Aliens
Stopped selling ages ago - at the time they stopped some of their other ranges, such as Stargate.
Don't waste your time typing the email.
;)
-
Too late lol
-
Great sellection of minis.
Looking forward to seeing some painted up and your APC's.
-
Love what you have done so far.
The Aliens movies are some of my favorite movies.
Am really looking forward to see what you do.
-
Bloody big facehuggers!
They going for Trolls as host? ;)

So do eureka no longer make the aliens?

So do eureka no longer make the aliens?
Nope :'(
Got their answer yesterday, no Aliens, Facehuggers, Eggs etc...

Eureka dropped their Aliens, Stargate and Planet of the Apes ranges after getting a Cease and Desist from Fox over the Apes.
-
I think IP is very important but still I wonder which place wargaming figures would occupy in the sea of derivative Aliens products…

Wait, what? They produced exact copies of xenomorphs, facehuggers and Stargate stuff, and the Apes are what they got called on? :D

Being a former member of the Stargate Yahoo group I heard that they have been called on Stargate miniatures like other manufacturers, the new Stargate miniatures being manufactured by a new company (and sold by Cold War).
I ordered my Xenomorphs years before this mess and they were not in Eureka shop anymore : I sent an email to get them. Now they are oop.
-
Some news. First I converted a Hasslefree marine with a home made M56.
I painted the bases of my Colonial Marines platoon and started to paint some miniatures.
The first ones to be finished are the platoon commander and the android (synthetic human).

I already saw them and they are great.

Nicely done Eric, really like the armour flashes.
-
Thread necromancy o_o
Just wondering what happened to this project? It was a big inspiration that pushed me to hack into my Copplestone/Future Wars marines.
-
As usual...too many projects at the same time. The miniatures are primed but not painted...shame on me.
-
Story of my life! :D
-
That is really lovely painting on both of those guys. The armour on the lieutenant is fantastic. I would love to know how you did it if you didnt mind sharing. The colours used on the rest of the uniform would be very useful too if you were willing.
The movie marine uniform has two types of camo which works in that context because the film is quite dark. On 28mm figures I think that the two camo types look too busy and cluttered: it actually starts to disrupt the lines on the figure visually, like real camouflage. Its interesting that it actually works but I dont want my miniatures to disappear on the table. The opposite in fact.
Were you planning to use the lieutenants scheme on the marines too or were you going to add the second camo pattern?
As usual...too many projects at the same time. The miniatures are primed but not painted...shame on me.
Having a stalled Aliens project is almost a pre-requisite for posting around here ;)
-
Thanks Cheetor.
As far as I remember the uniform base colour is Prince August /Vallejo US-American Uniform.
I paint shadows mixing PA US Uniform with black (or use PA Olive Drab which is darker) and highlight it with PA Ivory or white.
The armour of the lieutenant (which should be the same for troopers too) is painted in green (such as PA olive green) The camo scheme is painted with stripes of Scorched Brown and Snakebite leather (such as GW paints) and PA WW2 german beige camo. This last colour will be used as the base for the sergeants and marines uniforms (not green this time).
As you can see I used PA paints (german and US ranges) as they are the best for military uniforms (and have a large choice of military colours).
A link to PA paints :

I hope it helps. If I had time I would make a tutorial...but I am painting Gladiators for now (same as Aliens project)...all were primed since ages but I decided to paint them this month and I know I won't finish them if I restart my Aliens project.
-
Thanks for all the information YIU. Very helpful.

I completely understand that. Sticking with the gladiators right now is definitely a better plan.

No keep flitting from one project to another, much less productive. ;)

I agree...back to gladiators ;)
