Redbox Games minis,cracking they are too ;) ;
-
Great picture and the painting is nice too.
-
Those look absolutely fantastic, I can only hope mine look half that good when they are painted. The striped pants are particularly effective, as ar ethe realistic colours you've used. I have always liked how Redbox minis have realistic weapons; no buster swords to be found!
-
Very nice 8)
Are they 28's as they look a little large?
cheers
James
-
"Kutchek! It is I, Gore, your brutha!" ;)
Very nice and understated, but well-defined painting. I like the sinewy effect on the skin.
-
Great minis, a fantastic paint job, & a wonderful photo...what more could anyone want? BEAUTIFULLY WELL DONE!
-
Lovely painting and really like the photo set up.
Are they 28's as they look a little large?
I've wondered the same.
Duncan
-
I found the ones I've got in the past to be true 28's ,more along the lines of hasslefree.Lovely work! :-*
-
Excellent work! I love Tre Manor's stuff and you have done high justice to it! :-* :-* :-*
-
I had a set of RB dwarves, and they were just gorgeous :o, and far too small to fit with any of my other stuff :'(.
-
Are they 28's as they look a little large
Folk usually complain that they're too small!
If I remember correctly the chap on the left is a touch larger but yes they're defiantly 28's for the most part even if Tre calls them 32mm ;D
-
Thanks chaps :D
Fantasy has always been my true love (Lord of the Rings et al when I was a boy).......So a new thread I think, keeps me motivated ;)
I love Tre's sculpts, old school done in an modern context, and he is a great bloke to deal with.
Cheers
Wolfie
-
Yep, true 28s they be. Tre has based his Elves and Dwarves on old-school D&D conventions too, with the former being about a head shorter than humans and the latter about half the size (so, yes, pretty tiny!)! They don't mix too well with most other manufacturers whose '28mm' wares are actually more like 32mm, but that hasn't stopped me from collecting them.
Excellent paintjobs: very gritty and 'real'! I'd love to see more :D.
-
Wonderful stuff. One question what are they like scalewise? Would they look out of place in amoungst GW marauders for example other than the fact they are far superior looking models of course?
Damien
-
A little small maybe? I'd put them on a slightly elevated slotta base, the anatomy is much better (even on the muscle chaps),may look odd alongside the marauders?
I could do a comparison pic however my GW chaos is all OOP ;) and closer to 28s than now.
Thanks Mr Dee ;)
Cheers
Guy
-
Thanks for the info pal. I have been eyeing redbox minis for ages as they have oodles of character....now just to find some UK stockists :D
-
You're right Guy - that's a better photo ;)
Lovely picture.
-
Looks super good!
-
Man, I just spend a fortune on Otherworld miniatures and now along comes the big bad wolf with this picture. Okay, the wife won't get no christmas present this year and I'll put the blame on you... ;)
Seriously, those are (once again) great minatures, wonderfully painted and full of character. Blackwolf rules!
-
now just to find some UK stockists :D
There are none, just order direct. Tre is a great guy to deal with.
-
I found a few on ebay at a decent price and I have got some from Tre directly, also have asked him if he wants me to send him the finished pictures once they are painted. Am amased at how lovelythey are as some have arrived already
-
Agree with all the above.
They are great miniatures with a lovely paintjob.
Your photography is top notch, too.
All round impressiveness!
:-* :-* :-*
-
I've got to chime in and agree with the other posters here - they remind me a lot of the Age of Conan Legend of Kern Cimmerians.
-
You're right Guy - that's a better photo ;)
Lovely picture.
Cheers Richard ;) I was going nowhere on A.N. Other Forum,I didn't think it would hurt to post them up here(with a better pic).
Thanks again chaps :)
More on the weekend, just have come up with a decent thread name......?
-
Redbox mini,as all pics in this thread ;) I love how feminine yet strong this sculpt is;

Impressive. :-*
-
I have a party in my pants at the moment
-
My usual reply to your pics: super-cool and kick-ass! :D
-
As always fantastic and great use of a very atmospheric backdrop to add more depth to the mini.
Duncan

Cheers chaps :) Here are some brighter pics,people often say I'm too dark ;) ;

Now if only some of my club mate would be interested in a fantasy game, ala' Mason ;)
PS and here's some music to go with the mini; an old favourite of mine,do you remember it too?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJv2YwnNPtM&feature=related
-
Do I remember that song? What kind of question is that, Mr. Wolf? lol 'cause I do. The old vinyl is downstairs right between Hendrix and the Grateful Dead...
Should I ever have the chance to see your music collection I'd probably feel right at home.

I knew you'd say that ;)
DH you and your wife are most welcome to come and stay.

Having had the joy of seeing your music collection last year, I can only say it is most impressive.

Personally Guy, I'd ignore the people who say you're too dark ;) I don't agree with them at all.
I think your style is unique and works brilliantly as it is.
It's all very well showing a figure under bright lighting and in forensic detail if your object is to show off your meticulous CMON-style painting prowess.
But if your object is to create a moody and evocative scene in which the figures are part of an overall composition that's altogether more impressionistic, then I really love the way you do it already.
Don't let other people bump you into a style that's different. It might suit their work. It won't necessarily suit yours.
Just my two penn'orth :)
I infinitely prefer your original pictures of the lady to the lighter version.
Yes, the detail of the paintwork is a bit more visible. But it loses so much of the drama of the original.
Only painting geeks care about the detail of the paintwork. For most people, it's the overall effect that counts ;)

Gotta say that I agree 100% with Captain Blood.
We all do things slightly differently and your original shot was much more atmospheric and worked brilliantly.
I love the way that you set up your shots with scenery, backdrop etc.
Please dont change your style, it is fantastic as it is and you manage to make a masterpiece of every image.
-
Forget the minis, I want to see more of that woodland board on the first page :)
-
Thanks again chaps (and more soon) :)
Cheers Richard,I know, I know; you are dead right, your views, as ever are spot on ;)
And Mason You're not bad on the masterpieces yourself. :D

Both of the new Babes are VERY WELL DONE! The Chick in the Heavy Metal has an especially nice face.
-
More great figures.
I have enjoyed all your painting no matter what the figures, or the subject.
Love your painting style, please don't change it.
:-* :-* :-*
-
Sure are some lovely babes, and really like the look of the black armour. Very well done.
-
Thanks chaps :D I have a couple of things in the works, rather special I think; so I appreciate your kind words ;)
-
Lovely stuff!
I like the darker one especially, very Blanchesque!
Great work, as usual, Blackwolf!
-
Brilliant stuff - haven't seen the Blanche tribute before - great job on it!
Thanks for the Bo Hansson reccomendation too - just surprised the wife hasn't thrown the speakers out of the window as its been on a somwhat heavy rotation while I've been painting this past week! :D
-
Cheers Thantsants, glad you like the music too ;)
Here's another two;
-
More excellence, Mr Blackwolf. I've just realised how similar the 'Beautiful Eivor' mini is to 'Aleandous the Errant' (http://red-box-games.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15&products_id=116&zenid=6ebc6402030d1864c47ce722f4156e2a), which I have. The realism that you manage to capture is unnerving.
-
:-*
More Barbarian lovliness from Mr Wolf!
They are superb, as usual.
Loving the realistic, natural seeming pallette.
More please....
-
Superb Guy. I love your pictures.
-
Thanks chaps :) It means a lot that you understand what I'm trying to do with my painting and photos, I really appreciate it :D And more soon......?
Guy
-
Superb Guy. I love your pictures.
Ditto. :D
-
BEAUTIFULLY DONE! The photos of your wonderfully painted & based minis in those incredible scenes are really inspiring...especially for a Guy like moi who no longer does much gaming. I look forward to your next portrait shots.
-
I've thought, would you mind doing a tutorial on how you set up for taking your photos?

Hey there little red riding hood...
Hm, the wolf painting the girl. Now that gives me something to think about. ;)

I think the wolf though would get more than he bargained for with her :D

Here's the link to the best song about her ever written...

Mr Wolf has been a busy boy lately!
Superb stuff, keeping up the high standards that you have set yourself yet again.

Moody.
Atmospheric.
Brilliant.

stunning

I love the way you combine BEAUTIFULLY DONE minis & GREAT terrain into a cinematic experience. FANTASTIC!
The foliage on your trees is INCREDIBLY realistic.
AND a MERRY CHRISTMAS to you also!
-
Thanks chaps :D
And Deafnala, you hit the nail on the head,I'm looking at my pics as paintings or film stills,I guess: which can only lead to madness, enjoying the ride though, and I'm glad you are too ;)
-
Great looking collection Blackwolf1066. Your painting and picture taking skills are a fantastic match. I look forward to seeing more.
-
Fabulous work!
-
The foliage on your trees is INCREDIBLY realistic.
It is excellent. How did you do it?
-
It is excellent. How did you do it?
I second the question - I'd love to learn how to do that!
-Alex in Alaska
-
Cheers chaps :)
The foliage is from Hornby, sort of a nylon wool, you attach to your tree with white glue: it does look good, thinking of trying to do some larger trees with a mix of this stuff, perhaps with herbs, not sure yet..?
Cheers

Cheers Jim :)

Great.;D
-
The BEAUTIFULLY painted minis & the FANTASTIC scenery make a harmonious whole; the scene reminds me of a Larry Elmore piece. VERY WELL DONE!
-
You should get all these fantastic pics blown up into a big coffee table book - beautiful as ever! 8)
-
Thanks fella's.
Only if you and Deafnala are in the book to :)
-
Wonderful work as usual, Mr Wolf!
:-* :-* :-*
Really glad that you decided to add to this project.
Nice to see it back!
:)
-
Only if you and Deafnala are in the book to
Well I could certainly write a gushing foreword! :D
-
Your vignettes have the quality of paintings, bringing to mind (as Deafnala also opined) some of the great fantasy artists. It's always a treat to see your latest work.
-
Thank chaps :)
I'm wondering what my next project is? ;)
-
Well here we are back again!
I have a box of Redbox Games figure, one of Hasslefree and one of Statuesque, what do you get if you mix them up? A right shambles! However I have a cunning plan; using buildings and resin sets from 4Ground,Gripping Beast and Fenris Games in addition to some buildings from two of our very own forum members (Jim Bibbly and Silent Invader),I shall create a village and surrounds suitable for fantasy and Ketty Jay scifi. This will also involve aircraft, one of which will be an unholy alliance with a 1/48 scale Hercules and a B-24,think retro Serenity and your halfway there...
Haven't come up with a name yet,however Craigmaddie(wolf rock) I rather like :)
First pics tomorrow,just a couple of figures; though it's a start ;)
Guy
-
Sounds rather interesting :)
cheers
James
-
I just know I shall enjoy following this 8) :-*

Just to get started on the scifi side of things...No names yet,Statuesque Miniatures, first out flyers of the un-yet named (and built) aircraft.

The 'Its Alive' idea is great as otherwise people would not have had a chance to see these beautifuly painted figures. I'm very familiar with your work (including a trouncing in the Build Something contest) and it's always a pleasure to see your compositions. l am another one who likes to see the complete Blackwolf treatment, landscape setting and all. Lovely work.
-
Cheers mate :)
-
Here's my ticket, sir. I'm along for the ride.
-
Lovely paintwork and photo, Guy!
-
WELCOME HOME! The new minis are as LOVELY as your earlier pieces. GREAT WORK!
-
A great start for the rebirth of the thread, mate.
Lovely paintwork.
:-*
Looking forward to seeing more.... :D
-
Excellent! I look forward to seeing more :)
-
Barbarians and sci Fi? I don't see any problem, carry on mate at full speed! :D Bring on your strange amalgamation. :-* :-*
I shall look forward to more Wolfie kitbashes.
Cheers
Matt.
-
Thanks chaps!
Hope I haven't bitten off more than I can chew ;D
-
More barbies!!!
Oh wait, sci-fi?! Hmmm!
My barbarian brain is confused. It all looks good though.

lol Both my good man! Same terrain....Mad laugh!
And after some PMs with a forum mate; I'm going to incorporate some of my friends from the LAF ala Mason, should give me some inspiration :) And be a bit of fun!

Barbarian Sci-Fi=Barbarella? ;D
Looking well, mate! :-*

Getting more and more interesting here, Guy, looking forward to it!
-
??? Ooh a cunning plan, we all like a cunning plan. Keeping your terrain the same is the best idea ;)
Cheers
Matt.
-
Cheers mate :)
I think I'll do this on a three week turnaround; so scifi, terrain and vehicles, and the third week fantasy.Meanwhile,I have two figures to finish ;)

First up: The Chief

Wow, great painting and those planes are something else. The weathered effect looks the part for your concept.
-
What an unfeasibly amusing top Red Shoes is wearing lol
Great photos all round though 8) 8) 8)
cheers
James
-
Wow! Love it all - especially the planes; would be interested to know more about them. :-*
-
Fantastic pics, as usual, Guy :-*
-
Loving the whole thing mate! :-*
And those backgrounds and setup - wow!
-
I cannot see her red shoes Guy, are you pulling a 'fast one' on us? lol and as James said, she better be careful in battle, I hope she doesn't use that katana much, or she may be in for some wardrobe malfunction.
That pelican turned out great guy! Better than my humble efforts. And at that angle it looks quite plausible as a plane! (It's wings are very short aren't they :/ )
When will we see everyone's favourite Mane? :D Got a figure for her?
Cheers
Matt.
-
Stunning work, mate.
Love them planes!
:-* :-*
What did you use for Fredrika's plane?
That looks mad enough for an idea that has been brewing....
-
Wow! Love it all - especially the planes; would be interested to know more about them. :-*
I don't know what Blackwolf has in mind story-wise or anything else, but Frederika's plane is the Dust Tactics P-48 Pelican and Conrad's plane is a 1/48 model of a Kyushu J7W Shinden.
(the Shinden indciates FINE taste, as that's definitely one of the sexiest aircraft designs of all time :D ;)).
-
I don't know what Blackwolf has in mind story-wise or anything else, but Frederika's plane is the Dust Tactics P-48 Pelican ......
Thank you, sir.
:D
I may well have to acquire one of those soon..... ::)
-
Thanks fellas :)
Fantasy this week, hope to paint at least a couple of figures...
-
Pretty additions there!
Fantasy sounds good too.
-
Just WOW :-* :-* :-*

Fantastic images :-*
I'm still often surprised at how similar our taste in miniatures is.
Your vehicles are in a class of their own though- they're so cool and are pretty much characters in their own right.
-
Thanks Matt :)
No updates this week I'm afraid,we have a new family member; a little dog,not that little actually :)
-
FANTASTIC!!!!! :o :o :o :o
I absolutely LOVE those planes! :-* :-* :-* :-*
You must have a fair collection of beautiful vehicles now?
-
Thanks Matt :)
No updates this week I'm afraid,we have a new family member; a little dog,not that little actually :)
Pictures of the dog will suffice instead!
-
I'd missed this thread on it's first run. Wow, just....wow. :-* :-* :-*
Your painting and terrain building is amazing. As is your photograpy style. Love it.
Those planes look amazing. Great to see a Shinden done up that nice. (Got one in the attic, but I'm afraid to go near it until I've done a fair few practice kits first. My scale modelling skills do not match what skill I have in the miniatures and terrain department...)
It's always nice to get a new pet in the house. I second the request for pictures. :)
-
Thanks Matt :)
No updates this week I'm afraid,we have a new family member; a little dog,not that little actually :)
Happy for you mate! :)
-
I'm with FramFranson on this - I'll take some pictures of the dog, if you've got them!
Those vehicles are great, and as always, the photography is wonderfully evocative. Nice to see this thread rise from the dead.
-
I've only just caught up with this thread having missed the original
Those original redbox figures and the settings that you've put them in and the way the photos are taken are just breathtaking, I can't think of anybody that does it better, just unbelievable really... or more accurately maybe I should be saying so believable because they are so good lol
And then to cap it all you paint planes like that :-*
I think I'm going to ask the Prof to connect your account to a siren so when you post a picture on the forum a loud hooter or something goes off and doesn't stop until I click on the thread so I won't miss any lol
-

Ooh I like that idea. +1
Yep. I agree with Fram, we need a cute doggie picture. ;D
Cheers
Matt.
-
Thanks chaps :)
As there are no concrete updates, here is our new family member; known as Florence,Flossie,or the Snoof Hound:
-
She looks like a sweet girl. Loads of character in her too, I guess by the looks of her?
Lovely picture as well, enjoying the sun together. It makes me miss having a dog around the house...
-
Well there's pictures, so I guess it's happened. ;D
Florence looks fun, she will keep you all on your toes I bet. ;) enjoy the new little wolfie.
Cheers
Matt.
-
Wow, great paintjob on that one Blackwolf. You make it all look so realistic! The basing is fantastic too!
Somebody looks like a sweetie :D

That bottom lass looks good. Her subdued greys and solid blues are a nice combination.
Cheers
Matt.
-
Lovely work. The setting sets off the models so well!
-
Very atmospheric pictures, brilliant! :-*
That Elf is rather nice looking.
-
Thankyou chaps :) Think my colour balance is a little out though ;D
-
Very atmospheric pictures, brilliant! :-*
Seconded, very atmospheric, Guy, as usual :)
-
Great stuff Guy :-* :-* :-*
Can I be a bit cheeky an ask if you used a bit of photoshop on the base intervention with the surroundings?
cheers
James
-
Stunning work as usual, mate.
:-* :-*
-
Flossie is a beauty - she looks very happy. Congrats on welcoming her into your home.
Great painting on those miniatures too, by the way. I love the red cloak on the swordsman.
-
Thank you chaps :)
James,I cannot tell a lie; yes I did. Not always, just when it looks too distracting.
Thank you Hawkeye, she is a real angel :)
-
Missed the update mate!
Lovely as ever! :-*
And you've made me buy too many RGB-minis :(
