Title: First footsteps on Mars - IMPERVIOUS SUITS ADDED
Post by: Bullshott on October 30, 2011, 04:07:25 PM
The French have arrives rather late in the day on Mars, having concentrated on colonising Venus.

The first troops to land are the Fusiliers Aerospatiale (Warrior Miniatures 'North Sea Sailors' from their England Invaded range).

This is my first attempt at Martian basing and I'm quite pleased with the effect.

My next job is to repaint the bases of my buildings while the glue sets on the final detailing on my new aeronef.

Welcome to Mars!

Now get out! (gunfire commences)

Seriously - been watching your Aeronef go up - yet another example of the brilliance on this board!

The buildings are discontinued Snapdragon 'not Tatooine' dwellings. I have two small and two large ones, plus a ruin. Should be enough to represent any Martian setltement I need.

Nice figures, and I agree that the bases look really good; nice contrast to the blues of the uniform.

To start with, here are the Fusiliers Aerospatiale, armed with compressed gas guns firing a heavy slug capable of taking out all but the largest of any hostile fauna they might meet:

The Chasseurs a Vapeur (figures by Brigade Games with Westwind kepi' gas mask heads):

Detail of their steam powered jump packs:

and a land monitor to provide some heavy support:

Chevalier impervious suits:

These are repaints of Steam Boy collectable toys. I might add some close combat weaopns to these, but otherwise they will do fine.

Brilliant stuff, are you bringing the Martian buildings to Salute?

They are fantastic. I have shed loads of Steamboy stuff but it is all far too small to use with 28mm, where were these from?

Can do if Mr Bibbly want them. Just give me a couple of days warning if they are required,  so that I can pack them.

Correct!

See this thread: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=38805.0 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=38805.0)

There is some useful stuff in the set. Mt Bibbly and Skrapwelder have both used the 'dustbin on legs' to good effect and Skrapwelder has used the tracked 'self propelled gun' too. I have projects planned for both of these. The steam monowheel also begs to have a Victorian rider fitted. The other two items will also find their way into my projects.

Yeah pack 'em! I am sure we can find a place for them on the table. :)

As is, the 'seat' looks more 15mm to me, but as I stated in the thread linked above, worked VERY well in 28mm with a bit of fiddling by my chum.

Too well for a couple of opponents the time I got to run it with it's electro-cannon mod...  lol

Alas, as I said in the other thread, he may have sold it. I may have it in a piccie, but I'm terrible in seeking such out.

Still, how can I refuse you my best effort...?

My bud the Beast said that you would like to see some pictures of my electro cannon made from the steam boy toy.  Here's two versions, one came painted the other didn't and I haven't painted it yet. Sorry for the blurry picture but you get the idea.

I'm going to do something similar, using them as artillery tractors for my US army.

Arrtillery tractor was my first thought. I may need ot order some of these too.

Man, what is it with all these awesome toys and me not having any real money?

Oh wait, maybe the two are connected...

Thanks, Sir Randall! Actually, the first image in your mail to me was clear, but this definitely gets the info across.

In the movie, the seat is where the driver stands at the front of the vehicle. I thought it was genius to see the awkward driving from the rear with the BFG up front as perfect Vicky tech dabbling with a taste of Hansom Cab.  lol

Found a blog with a nice screen cap of the beast:
