Title: Blam 2011 - LIVE
Post by: Kestrel on November 04, 2011, 10:08:27 AM
Whilst there will be plenty of photos after the weekend, as ever I'll try and put a few up over the course of the weekend.

Whilst we're waiting for everyone to arrive at the moment, Revford and I are all set up and ready to run the pulp classic 'The Return of The Son of The Mummy'.

For a previous battle report of this game click here (http://"http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=34511.0"), but who knows how it will end up this time?

Meanwhile a confused looking Thunderchicken tries to remember how his game fits together after making notes on the bottom of the scenery and forgetting what they meant.

Ah, that ugly 1970s wallpaper brings a fond flutter of recognition to mine heart. What's a pint at in the Lodge these days? 2.16 it was then, as I recall...

Any chance you chaps can rig a live feed camera? :)

After much travelling, I'm finally back from BLAM.

Excellent weekend! Thoroughly enjoyed myself. Thank you to everyone for making the weekend such an enjoyable event. I'm pleased to report it was all good humoured banter and great games with excellent people.

I'd also like to thank everyone whose game I played, they where fantastic. I'd like to appologise to everyone whose game i never got a chance to play, they all looked fantastic!

See you next year
Cheers

Totally agree - brilliant.
So many ingenious, beautiful, enjoyable and thrilling games. The sheer amount of ambition, panache, creativity and craftsmanship in a dozen or so smallish games at this event would put many mainstream wargames shows to shame. And great to meet up with 30 or so LAFers from across the UK and Germany (and Denmark!) for some great gaming, great company, and quite a lot of ale.
What's not to like? ;)

Thanks to those whose games I played in. All very much enjoyed - Oldskoolrebel's hilarious werewolf hunt in the Highlands, Dodge's excellent RCW game using Triumph & Tragedy, Silent Invader's superb Alien encounter. I even enjoyed Dewbakuk's Deadlands tunnels game, despite being beset by zombies (!!!) and ruthlessly hunted and eliminated by the evil and remorseless SvennnDHnutt  >:(  ;)  :D

I've posted a report on Silent Invader's Aliens game here http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=34770.0
- meanwhile, here's a taster...

Dean I loved the colour of the board looked great :-* :-* :-*
A lot better than my travel worn boards.

Thanks again gents for a cracking, inspirational weekend.
Every game I played was great stuff and sent me home with loads of ideas for my own games, well if fact far to many lol
We spent our whole 8 old hour journey up the road talking about what games we want to do for next year.
Will post the pictures I have taken when I have a bit more time. Off to bed now I am knackered and unlike some I have to be up to go to work at 5.15am. :'(

http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=34774 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=34774)

In all respects, a top-notch game.  8)

Some outstanding games there! But the submarine adventures are just the best I have seen in yonks*.

Some names to faces would be nice. I recognise Malamute's pate but who are the other lucky guys participating?

(*first time I have used the word "yonks" in...well...yonks)

Apologies for the lack of captions, I was a little too eager to get back to the games. That said I plan to go through the photos I took for a closer look and post them somewhere for people to go over and provide a little more information to go with them, as appropriate.

Looking at the 7tv board I was truly in awe of all of the little bond villain bits and pieces looked fantastic

Matakishis conan looked great and I wish I had played maybe another time

the pirates was a truly magnificent piece and watching that was so much fun poor poor Torben, but at least he managed to get a game of Aquanauts in  8)

I'd also like to thank Nick for letting me participate and having the opportunity to meet all you mad types!  :D ;D

All the games I played were awesome, and the ones I could only watch are on my list when next the opportunity arises. ;)

And next time I promise to not draw quite so many Aces!

Regards,

Kev

More after event thoughts:

Firstly, my apologies to Torben for knocking him out of the pirate game in turn 3, but putting his captain in a longboat at my planned point of entry into the harbour when was just too tempting (especially as he was worth 50 bonus points to me) .... resulting in us discovering just how effective 2 guns loaded with chainshot can be  :o

Secondly, how did Sunday's GASLIGHT game work out. When I had to leave at lunchtime the game seemed to be flowing very well (and from the combat results the blood seemed to be flowing well too).

Many thanks to Nick for organising another splendid BLAM event and to those of you who provided & hosted games for those of us who didn't.

The scenery building (as can be seen from the photos) was jaw droppingly fantastic and while I couldn't play every game - I did manage to play a few.  :)

The highlight for me of Oldskoolrebel's Werewolf hunt was Capt Blood's party of monster hunters taking down 2 of the 3 werewolves in melee. It was more like a Carry On than a Hammer Horror.  lol

Similarly, in Dodge's RCW game Capt Blood once again "rolled like a good 'un" to take the win with his unstoppable Russians - despite Chillwind's efforts to snatch back the Tsar at the end.
Note to self, don't shoot at Capt Blood's troops who have bayonets when you have an army which can't actually use a gun ...... and don't have bayonets!  ::)

Revford's "Return of the Return of the Son of the Mummy" was a hoot. Although the inevitable chaos of PvP meant that no-one actually got the treasure from the pyramid during game time.  lol

Thunderchicken's VSF game was a visual treat and the game mechanics were simple enough for a dullard like me. Although I was narrowly pipped at the post by Rev Ford, we both (despite Thunderchicken's protests) believed that the Martian Crab-Grabber thingTM was without a doubt the MVP of the game.

Matakishi's Crom kept me away from everything else - a great game which got better and better as the Minions started to kill off the adventures. A pity that the "clones of the adventurers" finally stuffed the Minions in the Dark Citadel. Ah well, at least Conan got to die ...... again.  :D

Hi all

Thanks for making my first ever Blam event such a fantastic experience (well maybe not the Indian on Friday!).  I look forward to next year as myself and Dewbakuk already have many ideas we want to explore.

Special thanks to Nick (Malamute?) for organising the event and everyone else for making the new guy feel so welcome.

Cheers
Rich

Rich - you don't have time for all this blah, blah, blah nonsense .... you have 6 figures left to paint for Dean from this year's project before you get around to all those Ghouls you committed to on Friday night.  :D ;)

A few more BLAM photos .....

Are you sure these are the right instructions? That suppository looks awfully big!

Kestrel not quite sure that "the one that had got away" had really been as big as was being suggested.

Rev Ford orders two beers thinking that we can't spot a life-scale model of Matakishi when we see one.

As Yoda Malmute contemplates the inner workings of the force, Dewbakuk decides that any Pirate game worth it's salt needs ....... a lightsaber.

And on a more serious note - check out the detail in the bottom left hand corner - a tiny model of the base layout within the model - brilliant!

Had a great time despite a few hiccups. Sorry if I didn't seem with it Saturday chaps but the Tsingtao and your good company had me in high sprirts in no time.

Thanks to those who indulged in my game, a bit rushed and last minute but I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Another thanks to Uti Long Smile and Overlord for the 7TV game. Great fun and exactly the sort of thing I've spent a couple of years looking for. Thoroughly recommended, so much so I've purchased the ruleset and all the gubbins.

The Wayland Games goddie bag was a lovely treat and very generous indeed.

Here's to next year, wherever and whenever it will be!

EVENTUALLY manage to get round to editing my photos.
So here goes, better late then never :D

Day one
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/9/1912_09_11_11_11_57_36_0.JPG)
Oldschoolrebels Werewolf game.

Deans Deadlands game

Mummy game

Thunderchickens war of the worlds game

My first game was deans Deadlands game. I played the natives
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/9/1912_10_11_11_8_58_07_0.JPG)

The objective of the game was to stop the ritual by the nasty shaman

I didn't start off very well. Got one brave killed before I even got to move. So I then just went hell for leather to get the objective.

On every tile the shamans guards appeared but I manage to wipe the floor with them and never lost a man.

The bufflo soldiers also had some trouble but they deserved it as they had shot my guy before I got to move :(

Mean while the cowboys at the other side of the table had a fight amounst them selves.

again more badies to be killed.

Not got very good photos of the next bit as things got a bit busy and mad.
Magic in the air as I attacked the shaman.
My leader got turned into a were wolf, a big scary tenticale monster appeared and all the dead bodies turned into zombies.

My braves also try to get some payback

but the zombies attack didn't help

Still I managed to kill the shaman and stop the ritual

but all my guys were gunned down before we could escape off the board with the evidence of the win :'(

Lovely figure through out the game :-* :-* :-*

Only managed two more pictures of thunderchickens game I was too busy playing.
It was me against Dr the viking.
I was doing really well until he managed to run off the table first gaining extra points.
So I had to fight on by myself against the punny earthmen.
Managed to catch and over take the Dr's points score but just as I was about to step off the table when some sneaky gits managed to take off my last three hit points and my tripod crashed and burned :'(

BLAM 2012 was last weekend and it was held in Woking, Surrey.

Its not open to the general public and is usually by invitation only. If you are interested in more details drop me a PM.
