Lord Flasheart is reported to be leading a counter attack of West County troops against the Hun invaders ....

Lord Flasheart leads men of the Prince Consort's Regiment of Fusileers with a Mk2 Lowen Armoured Steam Carriage:

Brilliant!   I love the heavy infantry with cricket pads on. And it's nice to see that old Jerry Cornelius figure too, he's perfect for the genre.

Nice work. Just got my hands on some of those Wessex guardsman, can't wait to get them painted up now.

How did you get the cobblestone efect on the bases? I've been thinking of using embossed wallpaper.

Correct! I used embossed wallpaper.

I gave the paper a heavy spray of matt black, followed by a lighter spray of medium grey. Then I dry brushed it with GW 'Fortress Grey' and 'Bleached Bone'. Finally a couple of coats of matt or satin spray varnish (I used GW 'Purity Seal' - this is essential as the wallpaper is very prone to damage.

Thanks for the tip. It's a great look so I'll give it a try.

The Captain is a very old Citadel fig, Jerry Cornelius the English Assassin, from their Eternal Champion boxed set which comprised many of the characters from Michael Moorcock's novels.

The set is now long out of production, but you might be able to find some on ebay, or maybe just the individual figures.

Thanks for the inspiration. Where are the 'tanks' from?

Both tanks are from Ironclad Miniatures.

The Lowen Armoured Steam Carriage is the same model as Malamute used in his recent posting, but with some minior changes. I added a taller smokestack plus door handles, a tow hook and front towing points from my bits box (all GW plastic tank parts) and a scratch built coal bunker at the rear ('coal' is cat litter)

The Prussian steam carriage (I haven't yet decided on its name) started life as a maxim-armed 3-wheeled vehicle. I replaces all wheels with GW parts and re-built the front of the turret to take a Gatling (the alternative weapon supplied with the above first vehicle.

Are the wheels GW to?

The wheels on the Lowen carriage are metal, supplied with the kit (actually they are excatly the same size as GW wheels).

On the Prussian car you get two and a half metal wheels - not enough for the conversion I had in mind. I replaced these with GW parts (the wheels supplied with the kit are now in my bits box). Note - If you attempt conversions on this kit DO NOT REMOVE THE EXISTING FORWARD AXLES - although they appear to be easy to remove resin they are actually resin over a wire rod going through the hull!

Regarding getting GW wheels, I put a mail order via my local GW shop for 10 sprues of wheels for the 40k Ork artillery plus some other bits (its cheaper doing it this way - I only had to pay a nominal £1 (I think) mail order fee rather than the higher fee I would have to suffer if I ordered online).  The Ork wheels are perfect for many VSF vehicle and artillery conversions

Sir Henry,

Glad to see old Flashy has provided much needed reinforcements.
Her Majesty(Gaud bless 'Er) will be much amused to hear this news.

I really like what you have done to the three wheeled vehicle. It looks much better than the original model. :)

Now I must get some of those bearskin wearing troops from Wesses games , they look great. :)

Malamute, be warned that the Wessex figures are 'short 28mm' - slightly shorter than the Flashy figure - so may not be compatible with the tall Redoubt line infantry you use.

For information , the Wessex figures come in packs of 5 - the standard pack has a mix of 2 rifle-armed figures and the command pack has officer, sergeant and 3 riflemen. They are no longer listed on the Wessex website, but I'm sure an email will ellicit some figures ...

Apart from that, they are lovely figures. I agree with JB, those heavy infantry are splendid!

AHHHH, the horror   You are absolutely right the resemblance is uncanny and he is so right for VSF. I imagine he will give those plain boring looking steam tanks a great makeover

Under a previous this figure was part of a cyperpunk setup I had, so I repainted it for this VSF setting. Before I got out my paint brush the figure was dressed in black :o

Now how long will it be before one of our continental or transatlantic cousins on this forum asks someone to explain ....
