Title: Found some nice Models of Yesteryear
Post by: Doug ex-em4 on November 21, 2011, 03:52:42 PM
I picked up 3 Models of Yesteryear from the charity shop where my wife does some voluntary work; they had loads more but I'm trying to resist getting them all.

They look like they could have some use in early Interwar years games but only one of them has a scale specified.

Here's some pics with and without a 25/8mm figure to give an ideea of scale.

The beer wagon is 1/47 - the others are not specified.

For what its worth I have used all three of those for my own interwar and they fit in pretty well. The beer truck is a Crossley Tender and was the transport de rigeur for the Black and Tans during the troubles in Ireland. With a coat of primer they repaint very well, but remember to remove tyres before you spray. The Ambulance is Great War vintage but will be useful.

Not a great picture But I painted up the beers truck.
Very nice model and I think the scale fits really well.

I thought they looked about right and the beer wagon looks good in your repaint, gamer Mac (and I've just noticed the barrels lift out so will make useful street clutter). Even the steam wagon was still being made in 1924 so some of them would have been used for a few years after that. I'm pleased to have found them at about £2.00 each. I know I won't be able to resist going back for another rummage through the rest. They're all boxed as well but not, I think, collector's items.

Nice find; I got one of the Ford Trucks on eBay to use in my "Adventure" games.

What is the scale of these 1/47? It's looks right for 28mm figures but 1/64 is supposed to be correct, yes?

Nice find, Doug!

I have some of these Yesteryear models and they are great, but that beer truck takes the biscuit!

(Not 100% sure what I will do with mine, yet, but 'I have a cunning plan!'.....)

Looking forward to seeing what you do with yours.
Will be waiting to pounce and steal borrow any great ideas!

Its hard to find but if you can, Matchbox did a fantastic Rolls Royce armoured car in that Yesteryear series, well worth looking out for.

Yeah - that RR a/car looks the business. If they're hard to find, I imagine they attract "collectors" prices...

I managed to pick up a load of the Crossley trucks in RAF colours. A quick repaint and they're the main transport for my VBCW Territorials. They reckon they're 1/47th or something but they fit in well with todays larger 28mm figures very well.

Ebay, my friend! Look for lots out of the box, as collector's prices are  :o, but you can get some very nice cars on the cheap when people sell damaged stuff, or "parts cars".  Keyword "yesteryear" or "matchbox yesteryear" and you'll be amazed at all the US sellers. Good luck!

Lledo is another range, slightly smaller and closer in scale to 28mm I think. Some Models Of Yesteryear are slightly to big I think.

I too like the Lledo;s, being slightly smaller. My brother (Wirelizard) has some Models of Yesteryear as well, I should take some comparison shots so people can see the two (along with the Matchbox models I have as well).

1/56 is correct.
