Hiya, was just wondering if anyone knows of any 28mm figures of British early Napoleonic types who look like they are serving in a hot climate? I just need a handful for a Gloire scenario idea, rather than a whole army, and on the whole I'm not a Napoleonic gamer so don't really know where to look.
The adventure is set in Egypt, but I was thinking there might be something suitable in a 'Wellington in India' range, or perhaps even Peninsular types. I was thinking maybe chaps with straw sun-hats, or other little details that might make them look like they were somewhere hot.
If not then just any British character figures will do. A couple of officers and infantrymen is all I want. The more characterful and skirmish-oriented the better.
Sorry, but I really don't have the first clue who if anybody makes this type of thing.

Have you thought of the Foundry British Marines and Sailors. They are definately Napoleonic. Some of the sailors are wearing straw hats.I know they are seafaring, but might do at a push
I seem to remember in Wargames Illustrated sometime during the last year or so there was an article about the Napolonic wars in the West Indies. I can't remember what figures were used but it might be worth looking at if you collect the magazine.
Or alternatively Try Front Rank Figures and look at their Napoleonic British. The good news is you can still buy their figures individually and they sell them in campaign dress.So you can buy as few as you like an dthey have quite a variety of different poses, especially officers.

For Wellington in India Redoubt has a huge range of figures. I have never seen them in the flesh so have no idea what they look like.
They are going to be pre Napoleonic though in uniform.

The Redoubt figures in the Wellington in India range are nice but absolutely huge in comparison to most other Napoleonic ranges (I used to have some somewhere but can't find them now).
The Foundry figures are nice and fit in with other napoleonic ranges - but are pricey these days.

Front Rank fall somewhere between Foundry and Redoubt for size. Front Rank are great little figures, and the ability to order singletons is particularly useful.
The only problem with using Royal Marines is that those hats really are distinct to them. The regular regiments don't have nearly so spiffy hats. Otherwise, that portion of the Napoleonic range is really cool.

Infantry in Stovepipes & Round Hats plus those marvellous Corsican Rangers etc. Not their best range, but at least it should fit the bill.

Actually, looking at the Redoubt "Wellington in India" range, they might indeed be the best bet. They can be bought as individual figures [ah, reminds me of the good old days, when you could actually buy what you wanted...], bur they are the older "thin & gangly" style of sculpts:

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. Actually, Malamute's idea about naval types is a good one. The British in my story are representatives of the Crown on something of the nature of a secret mission, there is nothing that says they have to be from the army. Naval figures would be quite versatile, and useful to have around if I ever want to do any Hornblowering.
So perhaps it shall be Dr. Stefan Immaturin and Captain "Unlucky Jim" Horbury that are sent on:
"The Search for the Frazetta Stone*"
or
"How the Baron foiled the subtle schemes of the Slippery Savants."**
Or possibly, as it is important enough, perhaps that famous Napoleonic intelligence agent Carlos Guido Plynkes, and his Hindian manservant Siklee will be sent?

** Depending on how the game goes, the subtitle may well instead be how he " ... failed to foil ... " which is even more alliterative and therefore better.

As far as I can recall they don't compare size wise with any of the other Redoubt ranges - they are really huge!

I've seen a few figures suitable for French in Egypt, Dixon have a range including dromedary corps, but their nearest British equivalents are Peninsular. They do have some British Indian Mutiny figures in short jackets/shirts and tattered trousers that might suit at a pinch.
