The last clip is just a sad piece of communist propaganda from a movie shot in 1957 during the early years of the Soviet occupation that kept (and still keep) the myth of cavalry vs tanks alive. The purpose during those early years following the end of WW2 for the Soviet union was to rewrite history to make it appear as if the Red Army were the saviors and without fault, and the idea of showing stupid Polish soldiers (later as time progressed they shifted focus towards Polish commanders) to morally subdue the occupied Poland after WW2. The brainwashing and history falsification was incredibly effective on the generations that followed.

Even more remarkable still was that it was the Germans with the help of an Italian war correspondent who started the myth of the Polish cavalry vs tank - and the Soviets thought it was so good that they took it and ran with it after the war.

There are a few things that I find quite amazing in the clip, for instance use of lances (which was not part of standard issue armament for cavalry in 1939) that are used as throwing spears?  lol
And the badly masked T-34 "German Panzer"  lol

The cavalry charges made during 1939 were done with sabers, and only against unsuspecting infantry for the most part that were taken completely by surprise ( a bit like the Germans were taken by surprise by amored trains showing up in the middle of their tank column at the battle of Mokra). And cavalry were intended to be used as mobile infantry, fighting on foot when contact was made with the enemy rather than "true" cavalry.

If one knows all of that, then you can't be offended by the clip or get some wrong ideas about the content either. Not 100% sure everyone knows that though so that's why I write this explanatory comment.

Naturally attack on horseback against the tanks - an impossible folly. But I do not see any attack on the tank - there is only one episode, where the cavalry saber cuts tank. This can sometimes make a person can cope with passion. But, of course, not the whole team.

This movie I saw. But I know that the Polish cavalry attacked in the German cavalry units at least six times. And in two cases on the battlefield was present German armor (attack under Kroyanty and Vulke Venglova). Of course, these attacks were directed against infantry. German armored vehicles in both cases appeared on the battlefield suddenly Polish cavalrymen.
Polish soldiers of valor no one denies. We also know that these attacks are successfully developed before the advent of tanks.

If I understand the phrase Polish officer in this episode - he gave the command to his men to retreat with the appearance of German tanks. So, basically, the episode is true. And the peaks at the Lancers were still (some) - they were used as a squadron badges.

T-34 - as the German tanks it is hard not to know :-)
But the film's director, apparently, was not in possession of these German tanks.

During the Second World War in Russia was very popular American song "Comin 'In On A Wing And A Prayer".
On this tune was written by the Russian text.
Now that song plays Russian rock group "Chizh and K".

By the way, while American bombers after the raids on Germany landed in the Soviet airfield at Poltava. Planes refueled, loaded with bombs and went into the return flight.

In the Russian version of the song is called "The song of the American bombers."

I propose today to watch a movie in a series of "Liberation". It's called "The Bulge of Fire".

The grand military epic, which knows no parallel in world cinema: The Story of the Great Patriotic War of the Battle of Kursk to the hoisting of the Victory Banner over the Reichstag - "Liberation". Thousands of soldiers and hundreds of pieces of equipment, the almost total absence of scenery - all in nature, an international cast, dozens of filmmakers from different countries working on the film for four years of filming.

Today we see a musical film about Soviet pilots

"Only "Old Men" Are Going to Battle"

One of the best Russian films about the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. The old men (senior soldiers) in this squadron were no older than twenty, but those wet behind the ears, a reinforcement fresh from flying schools with accelerated training, were not allowed to go to battle for quite a while They were yet to experience everything the heat of the battle, the joy of the first victory over the enemy, the grandeur of a brotherhood strengthened with blood, the first love, and the bitterness of a loss. And there came the day when, on hearing the command only old men are going to battle, it was them who rushed to their planes.

Today, watch a movie "Attack on Leningrad".

The winter of 1941.
From the sky rained without stopping bombs, turning houses into ruins, and the survivors - the homeless, freezing - stifles hunger. Hitler was convinced that the blockade of Leningrad people will turn into a herd of wild beasts tearing each other's pieces of food. But citizens remain human beings. In the film, two heroines: Nina Tsvetkova and Kate Davis.
One - a policeman, devout member of the Komsomol, the daughter of Civil War hero, cut down in battle with the White Guards.
The second - a noblewoman, who was born in Petersburg, the daughter of General White Guards, journalist, absolutely not adapted to life - not to mention the unimaginable hardships of the siege.
They were supposed to be enemies, but the life of another judge. Life, for which they fought desperately.

The Dawns Here Are Quiet

The film is set in Karelia (North-West of Russia, near Finland) in 1941 during WWII. In a beautiful and quiet wilderness far from the front-line there is an anti-aircraft artillery point, where sergeant Vaskov is stationed with a group of many young women in training. One of the women while sneaking from camp to visit her young son sees two German paratroopers. Vaskov takes five of the women to stop the two paratroopers...

That D Day mix with Ramstein was great. Reminded me of the stories my grandfather told me about the Big Red 1 and the Invasion of Normady. He hit the beach watched his friend get shot in the gut with a HMG, his buddy tried to hold his guts in while he was still running before he died. My grandfather was shot in the butt while digging a foxhole for cover. A  medic grabbed him, patched him up and he continued to fight all through. He told me how cold it was to be soaked, caked with sand, you could not wash as you conserved your water to drink and for medical purposes. He told me about having to go grab bodies to pull ammo, food, meds, clean socks, anything really to survive...

My brother in law's father was in the German army towards the end of the war, recruited into the youth militia they gave him a uniform, rifle, a few clips of ammo and some chocolate and cigs when they came under mortar fire he just ran like hell and ran into some Americans, he threw down his rifle begged to be let go offering his chocolate, cigs and money to just let him run. They did....he got to America and started his own buisness here he was always afraid to go back to Germany to visit his family in fear he would be arrested for being in the German army.

White Tiger

World War Two is drawing to a close. Furious and prolonged fighting is exhausting both the Soviet and Nazi troops. The more decisive the advance of the Soviet army, the more often White Tiger, an indestructible Nazi tank, appears in the battlefield. It relentlessly emerges from the smoke of combat, ruthlessly destroys the adversary and vanishes. No one can either verify or refute its existence. However, the Soviet military command decides to build an extraordinary tank -- a special version of the T-34. The crew of this tank is headed by a man with a remarkable past, a tank crewman who was almost burnt alive in combat. Contrary to all expectations, he survives, recovers and returns to the ranks. He does not know his own name, he does not remember anything from his past, but he has acquired the unusual ability to understand the language of tanks. He is sure that the elusive Nazi tank exists and must be destroyed. This ultra-high concept film is told through dialogue and documented events of the war. Director Karen Shakhnazarov (The Vanished Empire, Ward № 6) blends highly realistic battle scenes with elements of mysticism to craft an enriching insight into the war from a Russian perspective.

I don't like WWII films protraying individuals which turn the whole world around. It seems a thing of the past, like Sven Hassel books and the  Eagles Nest kind of films. But I get a massive hard on from authentic props in war movies. The T34s are real enough but that Tiger I looks like a very good replica.

I saw this film. Mystique ... "The White Tiger" embodies the bloody god of war - the embodiment of hate.
Tanker, which does not remember anything, came back to life in order to destroy the monster ...
I can not name a movie masterpiece, but good enough to make a movie. Good battle scenes.

"Tiger" - actually a replica. It shows.
For this film was specially made great copy of the tank, but due to some technical problems, it did not have time to play in a movie. Here's a video of the tank:

It is a pity that in the movie he did not hit.

An English version of the famous Russian folk song in WWII "Tanks Rattled on the Field".

The tanks were rattling like a thunder
The soldiers went to final fight
And here they carried young commander
With head all broken outright

His tank was hit with armor-piercer
So say good-bye to Guardian crew
Just four more corpses in the hillside
Will add to fair morning view

They'll lift us from beneath the wreckage
Remove our bodies from the fray
While fire and thunder from the cannons
Escort us on our final way

And telegrams will set a-flying
To notify our next of kin:
Your son will never be returning
On leave he won't be stopping in

His mother wails in the corner
His father swats a creeping tear
His love will never know for certain
What fate befell her tanker dear

A photo on her shelf will linger
Among the yellowed books forlorn
In tanker's garment, epaulets on
And fiancé to her no more.

The Hot Snow

At the core of this film - the real events. After surroundings Paulus army at Stalingrad, Hitler tried to relieve his troops, leaving the battle tanks. Soviet forces in the direction of the German effort still very scarce. Their challenge - to restrain the advancing Nazis up to approach reserves. At any cost.

Interesting movie. Can give a good scenario for your game. Of the shortcomings - German equipment bears little resemblance to on itself, but it is not so important ... we know what she looked like in reality.
To view you need to pass on YouTube. If you do not see the English subtitles - they just need to include.

In Russia filmed the new movie "The Battle for Sevastopol."

The film is based on real events. This is the story of Lyudmila Pavlichenko - the most productive female sniper in history (309 confirmed killed by Nazi soldiers!), A friend of Eleanor Roosevelt and a legend the Great Patriotic war.
In the US, this woman was given the nickname "Lady Death".

I wonder if the movie will stick to the "official" version of the story that lasted until 1991, or if it will stick to more recent facts.

The real truth is still a heroic story - and probably a much more interesting one.

As far as I can see - will be picturized is a legend, created in the period battle for Moscow. I do not see nothing wrong with this - we do not expect the historical conformity in the movie "Saving Private Ryan" or "Fury". Yes, and similar feats have been in fact, but they did not become so well known ...

Of course historical conformity is up to the film studio and they can tell any story they like. Every country has their legends and embellishments.

But that is why I personally prefer history books to films! The heroism means so much more when it's real, even if it is not perfect.  :)

There is no doubt that the book is preferable any film, especially if it is a memoir of direct participant in the events. Although I like the old Soviet feature films that have been created by people who have fought themselves. I laid out are here earlier some movies with English subtitles: "They Fought for Their Motherland", "The dawns here are quiet", "The Hot Snow".

New Russian feature film "Nevsky Pyatachok".
Nevsky Pyatachok - is the name of the Neva Bridgehead 50 km east south-east of Leningrad and 15 km south of Shlisselburg. It was the site of one of the most critical and costly campaigns during the Siege of Leningrad from September 1941 until May 1943 to reopen land communications with the city during the German siege. The Russian word pyatachok means a five-kopeck coin, or (by way of a metaphor) a very small area.

Igor Rasteryaev - "The Road of Life"
I guess that many will not understand what this song is about. It is about those drivers who brought bread to besieged Leningrad on the ice of Lake Ladoga, under shelling and air raids. On the return flight, children and women were taken out of the starving city. This driver made several hundred flights.
