Title: Empire Warband
Post by: .:Gunslinger:. on December 22, 2011, 01:23:14 PM
Hi all,

after trolling around in the Bazar of Obscurities, I'm now posting my first picture of one of my figures in this forum!

First of all a little introduction on this project. I was always fascinated by the WHFB Empire, but never painted any of these minis, because I was more into the LOTR tabletop by GW. Now, that I'm more of a painter than a gamer (which is due to the fact, that there are very few people playing tabletops around here) I thought of painting up some of those nice figures. So the idea was to create a little warband around the empire captain with the bloodstained sword. I want to create a gritty dirty band of empire adventurers which are travelling around to make their fortune! Besides the captain, some greatswords, and an engineer, there are two halflings as well and an ogre mercenary wearing fancy empire-style stuff ;)
More about the background and my thoughts about creating this unit will be delivered with the next pictures.

As I have two weeks of holidays from university I'll try two paint up as many oh these figs as possible...here is the start:

The scribe, who is writing down all the heroic deeds of his master ;)

Please let me know what you think!

Cheers :)

Very nice!

The muted gold/buff color is particularly good and you have some very nice facial detail. Let's see some more of 'em!  ;)

You did a beautiful job with that figure!  I am really looking forward to seeing the rest of this warband!

Are you making a Mordheim warband? (Mordheim is a very nice fantasy skirmish game from GW, set in the Warhammer world: you can download the rulebook as a freebie from the GW site - look in the "Specialist Games" section).  You can play Mordheim solo...

Excellent work with the scribe.  Please do post pictures of the other warband members when they are done.

A nice paintjob. If I had to criticize anything I'd say the colors might appear to be very pale. It might be the lighting or the photography but the miniature looks a little anaemic to me. However, I like the model and what you have done with it.

The Renaissance costumes of the Empire is also what attracted me to War Hammer. Your Scribe is a FINE piece of work on a VERY COOL mini. The subdued colors work very well with the Fellow's occupation. Keep 'em coming.

A very nice start, .:Gunslinger!!
 :-*

Excellent paintjob and great choice of colours. I love the muted look.
Also a very expressive face.

Cant wait to see the rest!
P.S. I second the Mordheim recomendation. Even if you dont play, it should provide plenty of inspiration,

And...Welcome to the Forum!

I do like the mutes colours - better than some of the gory bright colours you see - keep it up.

Also try Songs of Blades and Heroes for a solo game or two  :)

Perfect yellow/gold.  Too many times people use electric yellow on renaissance styled minis.  That irks the historical snob in me.  You did good Sir! You did good!

Thanks for your nice words! :)

There should be an update in the next two days with a hobbit and an empire soldier. Stay tuned!

Welcome Gunslinger!
I have to echo what other people said about: very nice paintjob!  ;) and...download Mordheim! Wonderful game.
I'm a bright colour lover (I seem to be a heretic here  :?) but I really love your yellow, very well done. But: best is the face in my opinion. Very well detailed and nice tone! ;)
keep going,
lookin forward to see next!

cheers
