Today is a good day for LAF. First LPL contender are already starting painting on their teams (at least I hope so) and now we’ve got some new boards. All the years I’ve been asked where to post all that historical stuff like Napoleonics, Medieval, Ancients, Modern Wars and so on. All the years I said - Other Adventures, please. This time is over, today there are some new addresses:
Age of Myths, Gods and Empires - The Ancient World, real and imagined, from the Stone Age to the Fall of the Western Roman Empire - (Moderator - Prof.Witchheimer)
Medieval Adventures - Adventures in the Dark and Middle Ages, from the 5th to the 15th century - (Moderator - Welf VIII.)
Pikes, Muskets and Flouncy Shirts - Swashbuckling Adventures, Renaissance, Pirates, ECW, to the end of 17th century - (Moderator - Captain Blood)
Age of the Big Battalions - Great Northern War, SYW, AWI, Napoleonics, ACW, Crimean War, Franco-Prussian War etc. - (Moderator - Lt.Hazel)
Post-War and Modern Adventures - Cold War, James Bond, KKBB, Modern Wars - (Moderator - Arlequin)
Though Pikes, Muskets and Flouncy Shirts Board is actually nothing else but our good old renamed Swashbuckling Adventures Board.
But that wasn't all. Also I've splitted our beloved Future Wars board:
Post-Apocalyptic Tales - Apocalypse, Zombies, Fallout, Mad Max, Metro 2033, Stalker - (Moderator - Matakishi)
Future Wars - Near Future, Future Wars, Science-Fiction, Aliens, Space Adventures, WH40K etc. - (Moderator - Matakishi)
some minor changes:
- Atomic Cafe 1957 child board was removed to Post-Apocalyptic Tales
- World War I board was renamed to The Great War
- World War II board was renamed to The Second World War
Also I'm pleased to announce and to welcome our new moderator for the new Medieval Adventures board - Welf VIII! Good luck!
The resorting of the threads still isn't finished, there are way too many threads to look through but I don't want to lock LAF any longer, I think you already get the idea of the new order of things.
And now a break from resorting and back to my painting desk, I'm namely going to start an Ancient miniatures project.
Well, that's all for today. Thank you all for making this place that great.

Excellent work Prof...all logical changes to my mind.
Thanks for your hard work and dedication

Cool… especially since I received a bunch of Avantines Etruscans today lol
Also I really like that the WWI board was renamed The Great War. I always though that it sounded much better and kind of ironic at the same time…
I presume WSS (War of Spanish Succession) should go in the Age of the Big Battalions board?
Thanks for your hard work and dedication
Indeed! 8)

thanks, guys!

Exactly.

Nice one!
-
Nice work.

Thanks Alex for your tireless efforts in making this forum the very best in the world of miniature adventures.
Cheers,
Helen

Great stuff Alex - all very logical and well considered.

Here I have to tell you all, the new boards, the titles and descriptions etc., that is the result of the team work, moderator team and me. Our mods gave me many ideas and helped me to bring to shape the things. So I would like to thank you to them all, it's a great bunch!

Great stuff and easier to get around.

What a good idea :)
Looking at it, samurai et al still go in the 'Other Adventures' board then?
cheers

yes, we will let them there.
-
Jolly good, I don't want to start mixing it all up after it's just been sorted lol
cheers

Big Batallions :-* I`m gonna hug that board lol
-
Nice changes
Good luck to the new Mod.
-
Gosh, change. Good change, methinks. :)
Though Pikes, Muskets and Flouncy Shirts Board is actually nothing else but our good old renamed Swashbuckling Adventures Board.
Isn't it considered unlucky to rename a ship/board?
-
Great editions Prof.! Historical stuff is usually where my tent is so this is very nice indeed! I was already a big fan of LAF, but I suspect my visitations will increase even further no doubt! :D 8)

Very cool! Nice categories; logical and easy to use. :)
-
Nicely done!
One idea: Perhaps "Age of the Big Battalions" could also be called "Age of the Regiment(s)" (not sure about the plural there)?
-
Excellent Alex, job well done, it will make it a lot easier to find things.
-
I like it. I recall requesting sperate areas a few years ago and being shot down - other adventures for you...
-
This is an excellent change! Thanks!
-
So hard to keep up with stuff nowadays... any chance the "Recent Posts" section could be expanded a couple pages?
-
Solid changes. This will help immensely. I can avoid zombie conversations altogether :D
-
A solid structure. I like the recognition that "Post-War" and "Modern" are not the same thing, even if they share a board. I always have to do a little mental correction when someone says they are doing "moderns" and they mean Suez or Vietnam (both closer in time to WW2 than to us).
-
What a brilliant idea and a perfect implementation. I must have been a hell of work to separate all the threads. Congratulations!
-
It all sounds like very good changes.
-
Great job, alex. Now I know, why you had no time for painting. You where Reading thousand of threats. lol
-
Nice changes!
But just a question. Either I've been deleting loads of pm:s by mistake, or did they get lost during the update?
-
Is it just me? Since you reconfigured the boards none of the pictures are loading.

No. Send more money, or your avatar gets it.

:D
thank you, Carlos, much appreciated.

Good idea. At last the "other adventures" turned out to be a little bit confusing and now there´s a much better overview.
-
Love the new layout!!!!
-
I second all the positive emotions. LAF has grown tremendously over the last few years, and changes were needed to keep things overseeable. I long ago gave up on checking all new posts, as there are far too many every day, but now its possible, for more topics/genres than before, to go to a certain sector and go through recent posts.
Nice! :)
-
Definitely approving of the layout! :D
-
Yep, like it a lot!
-
I have a day away from the site and it's all ghange - and what a change!
Great work, the site is looking better than ever.
Thanks for all the effort you've put in Prof!
-
Excellent and well thought out, thanks Alex and mods
-
Post-War and Modern Adventures - Cold War, James Bond, KKBB, Modern Wars - (Moderator - Arlequin)
Excellent, i feel more at home already ;)
-
This is a much more logical layout, said Mr Spock. :-I
-
I would have preferred it was called the Post-Modernist board but I'm always up for a cheap gag.

Oh, what horror that would be, if taken literally...
"How to use washes, I hear you ask? Well, I am not here to offer any answers but to enhance the question. A wash, as Jacques Derrida would say..."
-
Nah, that's just applying the principles of adult education, where we are told that there is no such thing as a wrong answer. I've often wanted to see this applied to some sort of practical instruction, like oxy-acetylene welding for example. Now do I turn on the oxygen or the acetylene first? Just remember there are no wrong answers..... ;)
-
Ugh, thing is, the forums now take double the time to navigate... lol
-
Do what I do: Go to "View New Content", open every topic in a new tab that I want to read, hit Mark All As Read, and close tabs down the line as I read them.
-
The new boards are great. Thanks!
