Title: Modern force on force minis: where from?
Post by: Commander Vyper on January 28, 2012, 09:17:19 PM
Looking specifically to pull together a couple of 'teams' US, russian, UN & merc for a deathmatch styled wargaming experience not dissimilar to COD:MW3: but looking for figure ranges that go the extra mile.

The sort of thing I'm looking for:

Already have the usual suspects inrespect to TAG, Empress, LAF's new germans, Eureka, some of copplestone's stuff etc, but any other companies spring to mind for people?

Aware that they will be some coversion(s) required as I've not seen any minis bar a few TAG and copplestone with ski masks/googles on, (shame!!!) :D

Specifically looking for modern russian/german/french troops/special forces as well as the usual USA fodder.

Cheers in advance.

The Commander

Personally I'm waiting for these blokes, maybe a little ragtag for what you need... But still awesome.

Your other best bet has to be Empress Miniatures.

They also stock Red Star Miniatures. Whose Russians are probably a little dated, but still awesome. Their Chechens would make a really good OpFor too.

There not better that the empress but The Assult Group do some worthy 'ultra-moderns' - again, a little dated, but cool enough for cannon fodder.

Eureka appear to be coming up trumps currently and may well be getting all by hard earned cash via :

Their new US troopers in MOPP gear would be perfect for arctic combat teams:

Mixed with some regular rangers or delta with balacava/google sculpts. Add to that their soviets in NBC + their australian special forces and German Bundeswher & USMC force recon, even a NATO special forces frogman team too!

And they do NVG googles separately too! :D

Still open to other suggestions definately, but add eureka to my current TAG piles and a smattering of LAM and I think I may be there.

Also their new US troops are quite nice:

Bit of digi on em and job's a goodum!

True re: equipment but not convinced re: posing, be good to see some painted examples next to the usual suspects.

Cheers.

Rafm Swat and Terrorists they also have some singles in that range, Swat are a bit clunky but would fit with Black Scorpion as these guys are quite tall IIRC

Have you looked at Eureka's SEALS? I suspect they are pretty much ideal. It's rumoured that the sculptor is working on some more figures for the range. They fit well with Empress size wise. Much as I love the Empress sculpts, I feel the Eureka one's have better posing.

If you want to trick out your SEALS then Eureka sell a separate pack of pouches, water bootles for their superb Modern French, great for adding variety with chest rigs etc.

Not much variety there but a couple of the Hasslefree Ken variants make useful additions.
