A couple of Artizan models. 2 done, 3 and half to go. These are just quick snaps and the client will be sorting out the basing.

Hope you like 'em Sonny. ;)

Very, very nice!
-
Very nice work, I like your approach. Black eyes with white pupils? Now, that's interesting...

-
Dave, I'm pretty sure the black of the pupils isn't visible because you'd need an extreme close-up to see that. So in other words: Pupils are black.
Impressive paintjob by the way. Really like the models!
-
I paint the eyes black and then dot in the whites in the corners. Thing is with these models and a lot of others is the eyes are so small that trying to paint them fully is nigh on impossible or just results in the old startled rabbit look. Because of that I tend to just dot one corner of each eye white which gives the impression the eyes are looking in a particular direction too.
-
Just wonderful as always my friend!

Lovely painting there. :)

And another...

Stunning quality. You're an artist, sir.
-
Beautiful.
I love the map in the officers hands. His trousers are also fantastic.
Those figures look like very nice sculpts too.
-
Wowee! Absolutely top quality. Love them.
Great Mike Owen figures too. Are these from the Artizan WW2 range? I might add them to my thrilling tales collection... :)

Yeah, I think they're Panzer Lehr.
Thanks for the comments all. :)

Stunning paint jobs :-* :-* :-*
Love the Black tunics.

Beautiful work! Stunning really.
I agree about your black tones! Spectacular! Would you be so kind to say something about your colour choice?

Thanks :)
The black jackets are just plain black highlighted with VGC Cold Grey. For the guns I used VGC Sombre Grey and other things like the overcoat used a VGC Khaki highlight.
Working on this chap right now.

Did a quick tutorial HERE (http://stonecoldlead.webs.com/oakleafcamotutorial.htm) on how I did the camo too.

Great painting style 8)

Hi Sonny, there panzer crews are very nicely done.
If you get a chance in the future would you mind providing a painting tutorial for the camo you used please on the miniatures.
Great work and thanks for sharing.
Cheers,
Helen

Wow! :-*
-
Damn crisp painting! :-*
-
My thoughts exactly. Crisp is precisely the word! We need this fellow in the Lead Painters League for sure! :)
-
I just fell of my chair.
These are fantastic, and it also means that I have to put some extra effort in to my panzers that I am painting at the moment. I will be posting some pictures of them soon enough, but need to figure out how to do it without them looking like crap. And I just hope that they are good enough to use with your figures! :)
One thing, the camera seems to be able to "see through" my oversprayes, I use various oils and such to do oversprays over the cammo, wich looks fine in the flesh, but the camera seems to ignore them and just fotograph whats underneath. Very confusing. I have never been able to master the art of photographing, and propably never will, and with that in mind, I will ask a friend to take some pictures for me.
I am now putting my panzers back to the assembly line, and will be taking some extra time to try to live up to your standard!
Absolutely stunning paintwork, as allways, and I am very pleased indeed.
I have a small collection of figures, painted by my favourite artists, and I need a few figures from one more painter, then I am happy to have series of figures that I really love. These just made the collection even more loved.
Some info about the miniatures, the are indeed Artizan, and I do belive its the Panzer Lehr. However, I am using them as makeshift SS infantry, a prowling panzer crew. It was rather common in the SS, and happend all the time. Actually, there are full companies, and even battalions I belive, serving as infantry and reccon troops at times. They will also be part of a display I am making, sort of a large base, but big enough for a panzer and crew. The choise of camo and uniforms reflect my idea. It then, accidently, came out soo much better than I thought it would, all due to Mister Cold Leads fantastic skill with the brush, and naturally, his estehtic mind.
-
wahoo, that's a terribly brillant paintjob :o
Bravo !

Somebody missed the link in my last post. ;)
It was hidden down at the bottom though.
Tutorial HERE (http://stonecoldlead.webs.com/oakleafcamotutorial.htm)
Apologies if anyone had clicked through and wondered where the all important 'step 3' was. Seems it disappeared over night. Webs is a bit rubbish like that. All fixed now though.
-
Glad you like them Galland :D
-
I dont "like" them, its awe and love. Strong words indeed, but never the less, the truth! :)

I'm not Sonny, that's Galland whom these models are for. ;)
You're welcome all the same :D
Hope the little tutorial is useful to folks.
-
That paintjob alone makes me want to steal my friend's panzer grenadiers and start doing that oak leaf pattern :D
-
Thank you for the black info! :) Nice work with the new one as well! :)
-
Thanks for the Camo tutorial...very helpful.
One quick question...at the end you say to Glaze with a thin Delvan mud. Do you thin with water or use some kind of medium to dilute it?
Thanks!

Just water. Thin it down so it does little more than lightly tint the paint work. Better it be too thin as you can always give it another glaze when dry.
-
WOW, some really superb paintjob here :-*
You are really talented. And I really envy your painting skills. Your blog is full of eyecandies, a real pleasure to browse :)
The tutorial is really appreciated and I would be happy to see more, particulary for skin and grey fabric (both stunning!).
Keep going!
-
Finished off the model from the tutorial just before lunch.
I cheated a little with the collar patch runes and just used slanted lines. I attempted an accurate rendition a few times on previous models but at this size they just looked indistinct and messy so the simpler lines give a better impression. Also to make it easier to form the shape of the collar patches I actually cut out tiny lozenges of paper and glued them onto the collar with PVA before painting them. It might sound like a lot of hassle but it's actually a lot quicker than trying to paint a perfect shape.
Thanks again for the comments all.

Last of the bunch...
I'll take a set of decent photo's (well, better photo's at least) either over the weekend or early next week.
I've had a squad of WW2 late war Germans sitting prepped and ready to paint since 2006, could be tempted to do a few of those now (but they're competing for my attention with a crap load of other models so who knows lol ).
-
Love-er-ly!! Those final glazes give it that smooooooth quality!
-
words do not express how awesome those figures are.....

Nice :-* :-* :-*

Hehe, I just saw that as well now, I wish, I can truely say this, I so wish it was me that had painted these! However, that doesnt matter, they will be having their quarters in my home anyway, wich is all that matters :D

You are a lucky man, Sonny. They are great :-*

Nothing new but I did a group shot of the 5 full models. Temporarily mounted on slottas for the sake of the photo (helps hide the pins sticking out the feet).

Great Job

I am eagerly waiting for my new Panther G from Die Waffenkammer, wich I have been thinking about using along with these guys on the display. However... I also have a Tiger IE and a Köningstiger. All three are impressive panzers and equally cool, and can one way or another be used sort of historically. However, since the display will have a Normandy theme, I suppose it will be the Panther. The peadot is a bit anacronistic for the russian front, for what I have in mind, since these will be 2SS Das Reich (Tigers in Russia prior to refitting in France and bla bla bla)
I could also go down the Road Of I Dont Give A Rats Ass and do as I please and just give them what ever panzer I want and feel like.
No matter what, I actually got a bit of a sweat thinking about this, sort of like "Oh I really must make a ace looking panzer or for ever be condemed to the Hall Of Shame", the miniatures are so good looking that the panzer cant look like crap. I lost my confidence here a bit... argh...
-
You are a lucky man, Sonny. They are great :-*
Hehe yes I am, thank you!
-
Fantastic looking minis. The camo is awesome.
-
Really really nice. I love how the first two look rather cartoony, a slighty exaggerated look to the faces. Not sure if that's the sculpt or your painting style but I really like it.
Mike
-
A few more WIP shots of some extra models to go with the first lot. Not great photo quality but you can see how things are progressing. I blurred out the collar patch just in case.

Woah, looking fantastic allready. I envy your skills and your sense of aesthetics, far superior to my own. However, I will give my best for the vehicles that these will belong to.
-
Wonderful as always....you are certainly pushing me into buying some Artizan WWII. Which line are these? SS?
Cheers,
Blue
-
These particular miniatures are from the Artizan Panzer Lehr sets. They used variants of the special motor uniform; black, reed-green (summer) and camo variants. I opted to use them as panzer crew members, since there are not a single good looking german panzer crew miniature on the market, at least not one I would want to add to my forces.
-
Great...thanks for the info.
I see a purchase in my future!
Blue
-
You can use them as Heer units, I do belive they have the correct insignia (eagle on the right side of the chest and correct litzen etc for collar boards) wich easily can be altered to suit SS units. I just remove stuff if needed and then add small dots of green stuff for deathskulls and so on.
-
The bad lighting makes his face look almost the same colour as my desktop...
-
Thats beyond cool mister, really nice indeed! Or as we say in swedish... stiligt!
-
Very nice painting, but you've got to stop surfacing your desktop with the skin of your enemies.

Reminds me of something I read in an awful book about the Gestapo. When I say awful I mean it was a book that should have filed under fiction. Turned out it was written during the war so that explained a lot.
Anyway...

Hang on a second while I pick my jaw up off the floor .....
Stunning! How long do you figure it takes you for each of these figures?
-
Excellent! I love the faces on these guys...very expressive.
SCL...I like your flesh color quite a bit and have been try to approximate it on my figures...but I just can't get it right...you seem to be going quite a bit paler than I've tried so far. For your final highlight are you still mixing Bleached bone with Tallarn Flesh...or is it pretty much straight bleached bone?
Cheers mate! keep up the good work

I tend to go up to neat bleached bone for the final layer and sometimes add a little white as well.

Great...thanks...thats where I'm missing it...I'm staying on the Pink side of things a bit too much.

Think I'm on the right track with the pea dot camo now. I was happy enough with previous attempts but it's a tricky pattern to nail.
-
Excellent you've painted that figure so well you've made him levitate!
These are joy to look at.
-
My jaw just dropped in awe. It doesnt look very cool sitting here in front of the computer screen and looking at something and dropping the jaw, and its not nekkid chicks.
As I said, that miniature is a super hit from Warlords, really, one of their greatest so far. The new early war german panzer crew is pretty as well, and I am sure that with some creativity they will be equally cool for later settings, especially if you paint them.
The reason he is levitating, is that he is supposed to look like M. Wittman, from a famous photo where he is sitting on the barel of his Tiger.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bundesarchiv_Bild_101I-299-1802-08,_Nordfrankreich,_Michael_Wittmann_auf_Panzer_VI_(Tiger_I).jpg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bundesarchiv_Bild_101I-299-1802-08,_Nordfrankreich,_Michael_Wittmann_auf_Panzer_VI_(Tiger_I).jpg)
-
Just looked up the Wittman miniature on Warlords site and stone cold has really brought the miniature to life the camo is awesome and the character in the face is amazing. I'm taking my brushes and paint back to the shop they must be broke.
-
Ta for the comments :D
It's a nice model that Warlord one. The sculpted medals and insignia are tricky to paint though as they soon become indistinct once a bit of paint is on them. If only insignia were available as very fine brass etched pieces to customise models... there's an idea. ;)
-
Nothing new just some better (well, hopefully better) pics...

Pics are better.
The tank commander looks awesome, the camo is just fantastic.
-
I am out of superlatives, seriously. I cant wait until these are safe here in Sweden, getting their rides done as we speak hehe.
-
What a paintjob SCL. Again. :-*
Hey Galland, do you know you have to take a groupshot with a panzer as soon as you have that crew? :-*
-
Hehe, I will, but I cant rush the paintjob of the panzer, it has to be as good as I can possibly make it, and I have allready discarded two panzers for not being up to the standard. I hope the Panther will be good enough.

If you need some good advice in panzer painting, I suggest you to ask to Troop of Shewe (http://troopofshewe.blogspot.it/), a real ace of a painter and a very kind lad. He was very helpful with me!
-
I think I can sort of manage to paint my panzers, but yeah, Troop of Shewe is a good painter. His style reminds me a bit of my own a bit.
I have actually tried to contact him at one point, but he never answered or got back to me.
You can check my vehicles out here http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=39844.0 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=39844.0) Faber.

:-* Oh, well! It seems you do not need any advice in panzer painting Sonny :) I was definetly at a lower level when I asked him for some tips. Pretty strange he didn't answer btw, he was really kind and patient with me. Maybe he'll answer later.
Can't wait for the panther to be ready for battle! :P
