Title: Comanche Acrobat
Post by: Svennn on February 11, 2012, 03:53:15 PM
After the disappointment of only getting two small packs from the North Star sell off I drowned my sorrow by painting this one up today.

I also got this pack and am struggling finding pictures of the chap with brolly.

My google-fu aseems weak but from what I can find I am guessing that Buffalo Hump is the one on the right? Anybody know which is which for sure and why he is wearing a European type coat backwards? is it a uniform of specific colours? and why the brolly?

The Great Comanche Raid by Donaly E. Brice, 1987

At Plum Creek

"He was riding a very fine horse, held in by a fine American bridle, with a red ribbon eight or ten feet long, tied to the tail of the horse.  He was dressed in elegant style from the goods stolen at Linnville, with a high top silk hat, fine pair of boots and leather gloves, an elegant broadcloth coat hind part before, with brass buttons shining brightly right up and down his back.  When first he made his appearance, he was carrying a large umbrella stretched."

Buffalo Hump is definately the one on the right as he refused to wear any european style clothing. As an aside, I'm sure I read somewhere that his name actually translates as 'erection-that-won't-go-down' or something along those lines.

Peachy :D

If I had known you had those figures I would have bought the Osprey book on the Comanche with me for you to look at tomorrow.
There is a colour plate showing the Plum Creek skirmish and the warrior with the top hat and tail coat. Paint him in black or brown, they are probably most appropriate. :)

Wow Svennn  :-*
Really nice all around.
Sorry I can't help you with color schemes for the other two.  :'(
I really want to see them with some paint on them.

Very nice, Svennn!

Console yourself with the fact you will pick them up even cheaper in the future when someone who beat you to the others realises that they will never get around to painting them all, and sells them off cheap on the Bazar!....

Svenn, I missed this a couple of weeks ago... sweet paint job!  :D

Any progress with Buffalo Hump?

Buffalo Hump is definately the one on the right as he refused to wear any european style clothing. As an aside, I'm sure I read somewhere that his name actually translates as 'erection-that-won't-go-down' or something along those lines.

Great trivia. Those 19th century prudes!  lol
