And so it begins... :)
-
Thanks for your efforts Ray :),in what must be a time consuming job. 5th wonder how long that will last ;)
-
Bit easier this year! :)
Important note for all participants!
I'll be doing the accounting for the league but as a number of folks can attest, I am not without fault. So please check your scores and if you have any problems let me know and we will sort it out.
In the end... the final responsibility of accuracy... lies with the players.
-
WOOO! I'm dead last!
-
I’m at the bottom of the list… just like I expected lol
Thanks to the Prof an Ray for the hard work they put on the LPL.
I must add that I really like the choice for the leaderboard’s header 8)
-
Man, I wish I had entered this now. There is some amazing painters in this that I could not hold a candle to...still would be fun for next year.
-
...still would be fun for next year.
Start painting now! :-X
;)
Actually, pretty much everybody is still in the hunt. Nobody has ever won the league without at least one loss... at least not yet.
-
Woohoo - 10th! :o
I'm going to enjoy that while I can!
Congrats to all on a great first round and another big thanks to the Prof and Ray! :D
-
No draws, amazing!
Think i will be crashing and burning after round 2!
Thanks Ray
-
I'm top of the Leader Board! :o :o
So I'll enjoy it while it lasts. ;) lol lol
Thanks for all the hard work Ray.
-
Oooh! I'm in the place of honour, cheers Ray :D
-
WOOO! I'm dead last!
Froggy the not so Great ;D
-
Thanks indeed for all your hard work Ray & Prof. Doing this while painting and submitting photos can't be easy.
-
Thanks indeed for all your hard work Ray Prof. Doing this while painting and submitting photos can't be easy.
Seconded!
Seeing the leaderboard posted and finding how much you went up or down is always in interesting moment in the week :)
-
Above the Prof and D@rth... I`m screening, printing and hanging this above my bed, even though it`ll last only a week or so lol
-
As has been said above ... thanks for all the work you're putting in to make this happen Ray and Prof.
-
Thanks for the hard work Ray and Alex, I'm at 18 now with maximum points and I guess this season with the competition so fierce I'll end up around the middle 8)
-
thanx for the effort from here, too, Ray!
So please check your scores and if you have any problems let me know and we will sort it out.
noticed! But I will wait until the end and after the last round ... claim victory!
best wishes and thanx for league again!
Drachenklinge
PS
it's much more fun, when being part of it! :D
-
Thanks boys and girls!
Do remember though, I'm just the accountant. The real genius (and work) lies with the administrator, whose tasks are many: managing the entries (no small job), determining the match-ups while ensuring folks don't get pitched against each other twice, moving the league to a climatic finish... while all the time monitoring the boards/threads and ensuring folks understand the rules.
In this league the administrator is also a participant... o_o damn!
So while I appreciate the gratefulness (keep it coming if you must ;)), let us all keep our eye on the ball and lavish the praise where it belongs... the Prof. :)
BTW... let me take this moment to remind everyone that the next two rounds (Rounds 2 & 3) will have no "new entry" bonus points.
Cheers all!
-
Round 3 has started.
-
Thanx to you and your team for all the hard work prof. Again a very high standard o_o so hard to choose
-
I'm finding that the setting/background/scenery can make a difference, even when you consciously try to adjust for it. Is the LPL about the work done on the figures themselves, or is their presentation/staging also supposed to be a part of it?
-
...Is the LPL about the work done on the figures themselves, or is their presentation/staging also supposed to be a part of it?
I think it varies from voter to voter. Personally I only vote on the painting of the figures as that is the only part that has to be "new." But it is a personal view, and I do enjoy looking at the great presentation of some entries. For me though, it's all about the painting of the figures. :)
-
BTW... let me take this moment to remind everyone that the next two rounds (Rounds 2 & 3) will have no "new entry" bonus points.
This is confusing. Does this mean that those of us that painted figures for these rounds could have just used back catalogue stuff? That can't be right.
-
Is the LPL about the work done on the figures themselves, or is their presentation/staging also supposed to be a part of it?
In my case I vote for the set that I feel is painted the best. All things equal, if one person provides a closer view, they'll get my vote. If I'm up in the air about it because the painting is about equal, I will use scenery and setting as a tie breaker. Some people seem to vote by subject matter regardless of other factors, according to comments :)
In the current round I voted for several entries that are figures against a neutral ground, because the painting quality is higher.
If in future years there is a rule about not including scenery I wouldn't be broken up about it because terrific setting and scenery can be smoke and mirrors to some extent. That said, the narratives people come up with are really what makes this league fun for me as a spectator and sets the LPL apart from every other online showcase out there.
I'm sad not to see Hammers' entries this league because he is a master scene-maker AND good at painting. As a competitor I feared being paired against him ;)
-
This is confusing. Does this mean that those of us that painted figures for these rounds could have just used back catalogue stuff? That can't be right.
All three teams HAD to be new entries. I suspect the organizers thought it would be fruitless to allocate points everyone would be getting by default, because every person would be getting the same points anyway.
-
This is confusing. Does this mean that those of us that painted figures for these rounds could have just used back catalogue stuff? That can't be right.
All applicants MUST submit THREE newly-painted (previously unpublished) teams in time for the first round.
-
Ah yes, I see. Makes sense now :)
-
I'm finding that the setting/background/scenery can make a difference, even when you consciously try to adjust for it. Is the LPL about the work done on the figures themselves, or is their presentation/staging also supposed to be a part of it?
The league is about painting minis primarily. A player will need to paint 60 "new" miniatures and a large piece of scenery to gain full bonus points.
How those miniatures are presented, is up to the player and the voter.
This is why digital manipulation of photos was prohibited.
-
I'm finding that the setting/background/scenery can make a difference, even when you consciously try to adjust for it. Is the LPL about the work done on the figures themselves, or is their presentation/staging also supposed to be a part of it?
This comes up every LPL, "Is this a painting contest or a photography/presentation contest?", and the answer is always "Yes."
;)
-
Its also about wargames and so for me, seeing miniatures in a wargame setting is perhaps more "complete"
-
New Leaderboard... and by ONE vote...
-
haha, honour is mine, my opponent made the header lol
I`m so evolving in the wrong direction though :-X
-
WOOHOO! I'm still LAST! LAST, do you HEAR ME! BAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!
-
Greetings
now this is interesting. Though having gotten more votes in the second run I dropped a place.
(Yes, I understand the point allocation and mechanics. Just find it fun to point out).
Darn, this is fun ;D
Jo
-
You only dropped one! I dropped 25... :o
;)
Here is how I determine placement on the Leaderboard:
1. Total Points
2. If Total Points are the same...
3. Total "Votes +" determines the placement
4. If Total Votes + are the same...
5. Best "difference" determines the placement.
So... in your case artshiraz:
1. Total points between you and Mikedemana is 38
2. Total Votes + are tied at 79
3. Best difference goes to Mikedemana with -772 as compared to you with -784
So Mike edges you out on the Leaderboard.
This happened a couple times in the first round but as things go on, they should disappear. In the past, I believe, that for the final, two players with equal Total Points and equal Vote Points were declared to be tied as difference is not a very good indicator because voting per round varies, in some cases, dramatically.
-
Whoah, you used my entry for the leader board I am so stoked, if I drop out of contention now I will be satisfied :D
I am shocked to be 4th at the moment, but as time goes by I am sure I will drop down as the talent on display is of such high quality.
-
WOOHOO! I'm still LAST! LAST, do you HEAR ME! BAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!
But I am right on your tail.....MWUAHAHAAAAAAA ;D ;D ;D
-
From 32nd to 37th not too bad… oh wait, we’re suppose to go up aren’t we? ;D
-
Faced off against the good Prof. himself, lost, and only dropped a spot? I can deal with that! ;)
-
WOOHOO! I'm still LAST! LAST, do you HEAR ME! BAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!
Just tell yourself that LPL is scored like some card games, where the lowest score is the winner. ;)
-
Still 5th...... :)
-
So, how are the matchups done, from round to round? Do us 0-3 folks start slugging it out to take Froggy's spot at the bottom? Or is it random and I could be staring down the barrel of Frank's fearsome paint brush in round 4?
Just curious, as this is my first league...
Mike Demana
-
So, how are the matchups done, from round to round?
Random selection.
-
WOOHOO! I'm still LAST! LAST, do you HEAR ME! BAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!
Dropped to 39th on this one!
And took a sound beating in round 3, think there will be tough competition for last place come monday!
:D :D
-
Some very nice entries in Round 3... :-*
-
My entry made it on top of the leader board what a great honour 8). I really enjoyed round #3 and wow what great entries for round #4. :-* :-*
-
Red seems to be the color of the season.. ;)
-
WOW! It is really amazing to see some of the past top placers falling down the list so early & some new fresh blood rising to the top.
-
Greetings
I wanted to thank Ray for the Leaderboard Work. Doing this on top of his own entries.. respect!
lol I always have a good laugh when looking at the Board. Week after week I see more people voting and thus, while getting more votes each week, I stumble down. lol lol
The changes are even more drastic when looking at the Leaders up above. Its very interesting and thrilling to discover how extremely the votes from one Round can change the whole lot week after week.
Thank you for doing the maths for our thrill. Ah Froggy, I join you in a bit :D
Jo
-

It's pretty typical, Jo, for the beginning of the league. Lots of big moves in the early rounds. As we go on things will start to stabilize somewhat.
-
thanx for the effort again, Ray! To the Prof, too, for sure!
@ List
I guess, I will never be that close to Captn Blood again lol
This League is very interesting in all aspects! Entries, pix, pairings, comments, minis ... I LOVE IT!!
best wishes
Drachenklinge

Thank you for doing the maths for our thrill. Ah Froggy, I join you in a bit :D

Not if I get there first...

Not if I get there first...
YOU SHALL NOT PASS below me

Round 4 Leaderboard:
-
Woohoo!
-
Woohoo!
Don't Woohoo! too enthousiastically...it looks like I 'm helping you win your first round.
-
Well, I`ll end in the first 50 at least lol lol lol
-
You're all doing better than I. Seeing as how I didn't have the confidence to enter.
-
Oh well I am proud to have held no 1 spot for two weeks, but it all goes down hill from here, I am being absolutely smashed in this current round.
-
Yep, the list of unbeaten keeps getting shorter...
-
Oh well I am proud to have held no 1 spot for two weeks, but it all goes down hill from here, I am being absolutely smashed in this current round.
I'm living proof you can have a few close calls, get thoroughly spanked twice, and still end up in the top three somehow (LPL Season 5).
Don't give up hope!
-
Yep, the list of unbeaten keeps getting shorter...
And, so far, it looks like about 4 of those looking for their first win might pull it out this round...double woo-hoo!! ;D lol
Mike Demana
-
I'm right there with you. My dwarf gladiators are being shellacked!
-
I've defended my ranking against all comers for four rounds now.
-
I'm getting killed this round too! After all my hard work attempting to get a scene going, this is my reward! ;) ::)
Back to the blue gradient for me! :D
-
Well done to everyone who entered, regardless of position in the table so far.
I have thoroughly enjoyed checking out the entries every week, as I am sure everyone else has.
You are all providing great inspiration to the rest of us.
-
I'm getting killed this round too! After all my hard work attempting to get a scene going, this is my reward! ;) ::)
Back to the blue gradient for me! :D
Long live the blue gradient!

Greetings
I've defended my ranking against all comers for four rounds now.
well I did my best to join you. But would you believe I actually moved UP a rank?! lol
Jo

Greetings
well I did my best to join you. But would you believe I actually moved UP a rank?! lol
Jo
I should drop like a rock thanks to my daft move of not correctly submitting my new entry. At least I'm still shrinking the lead pile. lol

Round 5 Leaderboard: :o
-
Greetings
YESSS!!
Last place for me. I finally managed to get Froggy from his place.
Hope you don't mind, my friend.
Happy easter
Jo
-
Dropped 7! More droppung to come to! Time to step up my game, I guess! ::)
-
Wait, I'm not last. How'd that happen?
-
Wait, I'm not last. How'd that happen?
Accounting error?
;)
For myself, the pressure now has greatly eased as it would appear statistically impossible for me to win the league. :D
-
:o Hey! nice header for the Leaderboard this week....hehe...thanks Ray...it is a great honor!
Man...things are still moving around a lot on this board...its great...keeping us on our toes! I fear I may be sticking my nose into areas where it does not belong!
Cheers,
Blue
-
Wow, We stop at Round 5 right? ;D No? ;) Well I'll enjoy it while I can, because Dr.M is spanking me this round, so I'll soon be dropping.
Have to admit I am glued to these leaderboards changing, watching the movement back and forth of the positions, like some kind of horse race. Fun stuff
-
Well I was spanked by Dr. Mathias last round and dropped 11 places.
-
I'll be on my way down too as well after getting a good beating from Abu, just like last year only a round later
-
Ha! I'm numero uno 8)
For this week anyway lol
-
And then there was one... :o
-
I'm not sure if Dr. Mathias will be beaten this league, his entries are exceptional! :-*
I managed to climb to 15th place but I don't think I will stay there for long. Well done everyone!
-
Lots of top dogs battling it out, this round! And lots of tough choices with excellently painted minis! So, inspiring, I'm going to paint some more right now...!

Is there an explanation somewhere of what the sections mean and how the Total is calculated?
This is the first time I've done the challenge and have to admit to being a bit clueless about the tally process
I gather that votes + is how many total votes a person has for all the rounds so far,
votes - are the total votes the person didn't get
and difference is well the difference ;D
But how does it become 'votes points'?
Trying to figure it out, to compare:
Just looking at the ones that have the full 60 bonus so far,
I have 5 wins, 1 loss, same as Valleyboy and we both have 1820 votes.
In votes didn't get mine is 750, his is 758, so looks like I have a slight better vote result, but my votes points is 109 and his 117.
is there something else in votes points I'm missing? Looks like we have about the same stats, mine a bit better but my total is lower for some reason.
Similarly, Valleyboy has the same win ratio as captainblood, but has a higher vote+ a lower vote -, so higher vote difference but is 1 point below captainblood. All the stats look like he would be higher, but he's lower, and I'm not sure I'm understanding how it's done.
I know I must be missing a piece of the equation, so I'm confused. Not trying to drag anyone down, and I know it isn't final, there's nothing riding on it and it's all for fun- otherwise I porbably wouldn't be doing it lol just generally confused by the process.
-
A win is 30 pts
a loss is 10 pts
a draw is 20 pts
voter points: you get 1 point for every 10 votes with a maximum of 20 points. Please note you get 1 point if you get 5 votes, 2 points if you get 15 point etc.
and you get Bonus points.
To my knowledge this is the way points are given but please correct me if I am wrong (it is also my first year in the LPL, so the "oldtimers" obviously have more knowledge lol)
There is always the possibility of a calculation error somewhere down the way o_o
greetings

From the "Rules" page:
2. Vote Bonus Points
In addition to points allocated for winning, drawing or losing, participants also receive ‘vote bonus points’ dependent on the number of votes cast for their entry in any given round.
For this, the total number of votes cast for the participant is divided by 10, the result being the number of vote bonus points the participant receives, ranging from 0 (9 votes or less) to a maximum of 20 (200 votes or more). The voter points will be rounded up if the player receives 5 or more votes. So 15 votes equals 2 voter points, 14 votes - 1 voter point.
There is a cap of 20 on the bonus vote points... so if you get 200, or 350 votes you get 20 Bonus vote points. On ties, where both contestants get 200+ votes, each will get full vote bonus points even though one gets more points for winning. I don't think that 'Votes+', 'Votes-', and 'Votes Difference' matter much, other than to determine order on the board when overall vote totals are the same. To be honest I don't follow the leaderboard all that closely and I may not understand it myself... :)
-
Thanks! That makes sense, I knew I was missing something.
The votes bonus points cap was the missing piece of the puzzle for me.
Glad it isn't just that I'm even worse at math than I thought I was ;)
-
The votes difference is used as a tie-breaker. As you can see Bugsda, Blackwolf and Phreedh all have 340 points but are listed from higher votes difference to lower votes difference.
-
I don't understand it at all, I just leave it to brainiacs. That's what a civilized society is for. lol
-
Yep, ya'll pretty much got it sorted correctly.
I don't understand it at all, I just leave it to brainiacs. That's what a civilized society is for. lol
Now there is a real gentlemen... ;)
-
And then there was one... :o
*mutters* but technically Frank and I are still undefeated too. *mumbles* Atleast until the results for this week is taken into account, 'cause I'm going down like the Titanic! *whispers* Stinkin' Chambers and his awesome paintjobs! ;)
It's been fun visiting up there, but when paired with my point-wise peers it's quite obvious I'm (as a wise man said about a week ago) sticking my nose where it doesn't belong. lol
-
technically Frank and I are still undefeated too.
True, indeed. ;)
There have been some really spectacular entries this year and to be quite honest, I haven't a clue who is going to come out on top.
Three more rounds... and they are going to be tough.
-
I'm not sure if Dr. Mathias will be beaten this league, his entries are exceptional! :-*
I think you sent some jinx my way... I just spent half an hour of precious time pinning a sword blade I snapped off. I had to use a micro bit to drill up into the blade, from the end that connects to the hilt o_o
A lot can happen in three weeks ;)
-
I think a lot depends on the Prof and Frank's match in this round dr Mat
you certainly aren't making it easy for anyone with the quality of your stuff though
-
And there is good reason for the Dr.'s success.
Stunningly painted miniatures and bases combined with superb closeup photograph and a nice background.
I could say that about a number of painters in the league... and all are IMHO, worthy of winning the championship.
We'll just have to wait and see.
-
Cheers for the Leaderboard Ray :)
-
A great entry!
I love that Lord Cirencester mini and he is now on my "to buy" list.
-
I think you sent some jinx my way... I just spent half an hour of precious time pinning a sword blade I snapped off. I had to use a micro bit to drill up into the blade, from the end that connects to the hilt o_o
A lot can happen in three weeks ;)
Whoops, I'm terribly sorry! :-X
There's a lot to look forward to in the coming three weeks, I myself am getting ready for a drop towards the middle (I suppose) 8)
-
New week... new leaderboard!
-
...and Dr Mathias continues his streak, 7-0-0.
Has anyone ever had a complete 10-0-0 sweep in past LPLs? A quick look at the past results suggests the best is 9-1-0 (Frank in LPL5) but nobody's managed 10-0-0... yet.
-
I plummeted from #5 to #13 in one round - margins are indeed tight! :) And this round I'm being sodomized (fervently) by Frank.
-
I expect some rather serious clashes between the top tier folks next week.
This is going to be a very interesting final...
-
Just as long as its the top 10 and not top 15 included in that... :o ;)
-
I plummeted from #5 to #13 in one round - margins are indeed tight! :) And this round I'm being sodomized (fervently) by Frank.
I only went from 15 to 18, I expected far worse 8)
-
Yeah mind out the way Pil - I'll be coming back that way myself in a few days! lol
-
From 23 to 21! If I can stay top 50%, I'll consider it a good first LPL! :)
-
I'll be interested to see where I peak out from last week... Because Bugsda is about to pummel me this week...look out below! ;)
Cheers,
Blue
-
Just a reminder to folks about the leaderboard banner which accompanies the leaderboard itself...
The banner itself is merely a reminder/highlight of the round. It is not meant to have any significance other than I thought the image was interesting and I could make it without distorting anybodies entries by reducing or enhancing in any way the image. Thus, a lot of very nice entries never make it to the banner because the participants entry make it impossible to crop. Chambersofminis and Orctrader, for example, love to make really close in shots of their minis. I'd love to spotlight them, but I just can't without distorting them.
So if your entry hasn't made it to the banner, please place absolutely no significance in that. :)
Round 8 leaderboard coming soon...
-
From 23 to 21! If I can stay top 50%, I'll consider it a good first LPL! :)
A top half finish is an excellent LPL, especially a first LPL. Especially when the quality is as high as it is this year.
-
A top half finish is an excellent LPL, especially a first LPL. Especially when the quality is as high as it is this year.
And it's even more impressive when you learn that LeadAsbestos paints his 15mm minis with a dull axe, using only christian virgins' blood! :)
-
It was donated! I swear!
;)
-
Greetings
It was donated! I swear!
the axe? or the virgins? lol
It has been -and still is- an amazing project, the lpl. It has forced me to work at a rate and with a discipline which is often lacking. I'm very glad -and a bit proud- participating in the lpl. But frankly I will be glad when my entry this week will be finished and the last round done.
And then there is the next project waiting. And more mountains of unpainted lead to color.
Oh well
Jo
-
As we make the turn to the final stretch...
-
Ok Pil - as you were here before me you can have your place back ::)
Some people eh?! ;) :D

Question to the jury: When someone has seven wins and one lose, he is behind someone with six wins and two draws?
-
Question to the jury: When someone has seven wins and one lose, he is behind someone with six wins and two draws?
Given all other things being equal (which is the case here), the player with the greater number of voter points (votes + ) takes precedence on the Leaderboard.
If, however, this was the final, and two such players had the same amount of total points, then they would be ruled as tied, as voter points do not play any part in determining the top three finalists.
-
Yikes, from #5 to #20 in two rounds! That's more like it! :D
-
Just squeezed back into the top ten, if I can stay in the top ten til final I will be happy as this is my first LPL, I will be more prepared for next year. Need to paint some back up entries so that if I can't make a round I have something new to substitute it with, and I need lots more scenery and a light box to improve the composition of my pictures.
Painting final round now, set my self so much to do, two ships, baseboard and 16 figures. Might have to throw a sicky lol
-
Looks like goodbye to top 50% for me! :'(
Oh well, it was nice visiting! ::)
-
I need lots more scenery and a light box to improve the composition of my pictures.
--I need a better light box, too -- especially for this larger scene for round 10

Round 9 Leaderboard:
-
:o :o :o :o :o
I might be losing most of it, but I made the leaderboard heading woop woop
-
Short before the end I want to say "thank you" to all painters. Every competitor in this famaous contest is a winner. At the end some painters a little bit more winner than others. For the voters it was also a win, great battles and exciting rounds. The LPL is absolutely the greatest painting contest...
-
And so... the final Leaderboard:
-
And so ends another great year, thanks ray and Prof for running the show... now, to next year and beyoooond
-
Congrats to the top teir...all positions well earned and hard fought. This year saw a display of talent in both painting and scenic arrangement that boggles the mind. Also a huge congrats to all those that managed to finish a new team for each round...this is no minor accomplishment...no matter what the votes say.
...of course thanks to the Prof and Ray...and all the others involved in running this implicated contest in such an efficient fashion. Well done indeed!
Cheers,
Blue

A question for the judges...
How are the bonus points for round 10 awarded?
Is it in the following way:
10 pts new team
10 pts maritime
10 pts 2nd team
10 points large vessel/monster.
I ask this question because I got 20 bonus points but I got a newly painted team (10), maritime (10) on a boat (10). But please correct me if I'm wrong. ::)
I would like to say I had a great time and I am already planning LPL 7 lol
Thank you very much Prof and Ray.
Regards
Za

Ray and Professor, you both have my appreciation for your efforts. There is doubtless a lot of effort compiling information, loading images, and answering PMs. Behind the scenes affiliates like Captain Blood (and others I may not be aware of) that help come up with themes and discuss rules changes and interpretations shouldn't go unmentioned either- thank you!
Congratulations to all my fellows in LPL, I've learned a lot from you. Special mention to Bugsda who revealed that he scrapes out the eyes of Copplestone figures with a scalpel so they're easier to paint! I didn't get to use his trick until late in the LPL (in fact in made me switch plans for an entry) but still valuable. I can't tell you how many times I 'damned the eyes' on Darkest Africa figures over the years :)
Thanks to Brooknah, Laughing Ferret, Valleyboy, and Mikedemana for injecting some whimsicality into this season. Among others, the "Dating Game", "Roe Bear", "Pond Wars" and assorted Splintered Light entries were great.
-
Congratulations Dr Mathias, a well deserved win, the Leaderboard reflects my tastes fairly well as both the DR and Captain Blood provided many of the highlights for me.
I am fairly proud of my 12th place as it is my first entry into LPL, and I failed for a new entry on one round, and was missing one element in the last round. I have learn't alot about composition and preparation, ready for next years LPL.
As I said in other thread I would like to thank the Prof and Ray for all their hard work, as well as all the entrants and those who voted for making it so enjoyable.
There is now going to be a huge void in my life, as over the last 10 weeks it has become such a routine, the mad panic on Friday night as I try to get finished in time, the anticipation of Sunday morning, waiting to see who I have been drawn against, and the opportunity to view all the new eye candy. Then on Monday look forward to Leaderboard. Perhaps I might start going out again lol nah forget it I'll try to continue with more painting, preparing for next year.
-
Hearty congratulations to the winner and runners up. :)
Many, many thanks to the Prof, Ray and anyone else involved in the running. (I don't know how you find the time, gentlemen, but I'm glad you do.)
And congratulations to all of the entrants, wherever you finished on the board. It was very tough competition I thought.
...Special mention to Bugsda who revealed that he scrapes out the eyes of Copplestone figures with a scalpel so they're easier to paint!
Ooh, I thought everyone knew. ::) Not just Copplestone either. In fact there are very few sculptors who make "paintable" eyes. Kev White of Hasslefree does. Just at the moment, I can't think of anyone else. So for me, scraping out the eyes of many figures is just part of the "standard" preparation.

Congratulations to all participants of this LPL season and many thanks to the organisers for all their work. It was very entertaining to see all the brilliant and creative entries, and I really hope to be part of it again next time ...

Hey!
I’m 43rd out of 3235 LAF members, that’s not that bad… lol
Congrats to the winner and thanks to the Prof and Ray for their great work "running the show".
I’m up for ten more rounds. Who’s in it? ;)

Wow! Well done everyone. It was inspirational and entertaining in equal measure!
A mixed bag for me this year. A member of my family passed away just after the LPL started ,and that left unable to devote the time I would have liked to painting from Round 4 onwards.
Great fun though and I'll certainly be back next time.

Congratulations to all who participated. We deserved win for the Dr!
Last year must have been a fluke for me with the 2nd place honors. In the four years that I have been in the competition, I earned 4th place three of the four years. Always the bridesmaid, never the bride... :(
I look forward to next year!

Welcome news to me :) I haven't read many tutorials and I only acquired the Foundry books a few months ago. I don't think the Masterclass book even mentions the tip. Of course I may have skipped over figure prep as I thought I knew it all lol
Truth told I'm thinking about stripping the paint off almost all my pre-LPL miniatures :o

No fluke at all, I think we could shuffle around the top several people on the leaderboard in a given year and any of them would deserve to be in the top three.

Congrats to all participants and winners. So well deserved. It has been a pleasure following all your great efforts and hard work. So, so many fantastic and inspirational entries this year.
And a big thank you to "the organizers" for setting up this great annual event. A time consuming project and think we all really appreciate you investment in this.

Congrats to everyone and thanks ray for making these every week- I admit I've been eagerly awaiting them each week to see results & such :)
Dr.M slammed me down from 2 to 11 in week 6, but I climbed back to 5th in the end:a pleasant surprise. Not too shabby :D
Congrats Dr.M on the undefeated position!

Great LPL everyone, thanks to Prof and Ray for making it all happen and congratulations to Dr. Mathias for a well deserved win with ten stunning entries!

Well done everyone and congrats to the winners.

How are the bonus points for round 10 awarded?
Is it in the following way:
10 pts new team
10 pts maritime
10 pts 2nd team
10 points large vessel/monster.
Nope.. :)
From the rules:
Paint a team of five or more miniatures with a recognizable connection to maritime adventures, and gain 10 bonus points.
Paint a team of five or more miniatures with a recognizable connection to maritime adventures, and include a second team of five or more miniatures portraying their opponents, and gain 20 bonus points.
Paint a team of five or more miniatures with a recognizable connection to maritime adventures, include a second team portraying their opponents, and include a ship, large animal, or other creature and gain 30 bonus points. Please make sure we will be able to see the whole ship/creature/whatever on the photo of your team.
In that order... for a total of 60 bonus points.
In short, you have to paint the 10 miniatures first and then the ship. ;)

Morning all
There aren't any entries to vote on this morning :'( what do I do now?
Just want to say a particular thank you to the Prof and Ray for all their hard work. Despite all this extra work they also managed to find the time to compete like the rest of us. Well done gents and thank you, doing all of that could not have been easy
Take a bow Dr Mathias, very well done indeed
Congratulations to all others that took part, the standard was superb, it was a real pleasure trawling through so many loveley entries. Finally a big thank you to all of those who took the trouble to vote and comment
I really enjoyed my LPL and got a lot of lead painted (and bought though ::) )
Best wishes for LPL 7 and all who sail in her

Congratulations Dr Mathias for an impressive record given the competition. There are some truly gifted painters around here. The composition of the scenes as well as the layered lighting some people achieve is inspiring. Thanks again Prof and Ray for the weekly grind.
I missed that hint from Bugdsa & Orctrader as well. Good trick to know.
I’m up for ten more rounds. Who’s in it? ;)
I need a few months to recover and deal with all the work around the house I have been ignoring. :D

many much thanks to the Prof and Ray from here, too! Splendid work! Much fun and very very cool LPL, that I was part of this year!
As for the entries: stunning, great, excellent, brilliant! Hadn't have such excitement while watching pix in the net for quite a while!
So thank You to all my fellow combatants! Hope to battle You next time again. :-*
best wishes from Germany

lol me being naive... Ah well I have a painted ship now lol Thank you very much I had tons of fun the last 10 weeks painting miniatures I would otherwise never have painted. And ending 25th isn't bad for the first time. Thanks to all the participants and to you Prof and Ray for organizing the LPL. Congratulations DR. M. with the first place more than deserved.
Strange enough I didn't paint a thing this week....
Greetings

Thanks everyone for running this and doing all the painting. It was just too much fun getting to see and judge. Some of you are horrible painters and some of you are unbelievably good and I love it ALL.
-
Congratulation the the winner and everyone else who participated. It's been another busy 10 weeks, but very enjoyable as well.
Many thanks to the organisational committee!
Now time to put down the brushes for a while and recover o_o

Thanks to everyone involved in the LPL - the painters, the organizers, the voters, even! I know it's called a competition, but it's much more than that. It's a showcase for skills and techniques, for new (and even old) models that you suddenly realize you need, and it's a great framework for bringing an already tightly-knit forum even closer together. After watching from the doorway this year (again!) I know how I'll spend the next ten months - improving my painting and learning to photograph miniatures. The second one is really the key, because I plan to take part next year and join the rest of you kings of painters! (for a couple of months, at least...)
A brilliant ten weeks - I look forward to it every year. Congrats to the winners, congrats to all the painters, and thank you to the organizers for their hard work.
