Title: Spanish American War: U.S. Marine uniform colors
Post by: yancey5 on March 13, 2012, 07:45:50 PM
I recently purchased some U.S. Marines for the Spanish American War and have a question regarding the uniform colors.  The figures are Old Glory in shirt sleeves, most pictures I have noticed are predominantly toward the "formal" uniform: coat, trousers and gaiters.  Would I be far off if the shirts were painted either white or blue grey, light blue trousers and the cap dark blue with black visor?

As far as I know the field uniform would have not been much diffrent then any other Spanish American war U.S. infantry with dark blue shirts, and khaki trousers, boots and hats.  They also could have worn an all khaki uniform.  These sites might be of interest to you.  Also the movie the Wind and the Lion gives you a good view of both uniforms.  Hope that helps.

Airborne and Gray,  thanks for the information, it was very helpful.  I've been circulating through some Spanish American War sites and you both have been spot on with both suggestions.  Thanks again!
